As far as I can remember, The Ice Princess was the absolute best for me. I remember running home from school at about 12 or 13 to see this. I also liked the story that had Peter Breck (Nick Barkley, Big Valley) make a small appearance in the 80s. I believe that story involved Demi Moore and Janine Turner.

You guys are so good at the behind the scenes stuff, but I have to just go off of the stories I clearly remember.

So I watched one of those "old" episodes last night for the first time (since I hadn't been watching) and, well:

  1. Megan Ward was a far better Kate than the one that is currently on, which explains why she was the only other love interest of Sonny's (other than the fabulous Brenda) that I liked a lot. I haven't a clue why they fired her and replaced her with some bootleg version.
  2. Sam actually had a personality back then. Sure, she was drunk and bitter for whatever reason, but it was refreshing to see her lips not firmly glued to Jasus's ass. Bonus points on her calling that canker sore Carly out for being the sloppy ho that she is.
  3. Thank God for Megan Ward because she was the only reason why I found Sonny remotely interesting in this episode, though I'm always happy to see someone assault that dreadful Spinelli.
  4. Squeak Toy Maxie and doppelganger Scotty Baldwin are just as boring as doppelganger Scotty Baldwin is with Five Head Heifer Lulu.
  5. Poor Larry really was the whipping boy of this show. Even though his own son is missing, he's still being browbeaten by his wife and his sister. Seeing this last night pretty much proves my point that JJ Lucky's takedown of Liz was completely justified and way overdue.
  6. Scott Clifton sure has improved in the looks and acting department since his GH days.
  7. Was Rick Hearst allowed to do anything other than being the white Taggert? I've seen him be charming on other shows and would like to know if GH ever allowed him to be that.
  8. I was surprised to see that Steve Burton looked a lot worse here than he does now. Not that he's anywhere near a fine hunk of man these days, but that no-neck-having mullet look was terrible.
  9. I still don't know why Diane is or how Carolyn Hennesy lasted on this show for as long as she did.
  10. What the hell is up the end of the GH intro when Luke gets up and walks off the stage? Is that some inside joke that flew over my head or something?

There were rumors Megan Ward had a big falling out with the producers.

I hated that ending of the GH credits. Just so arrogant, and such a great reminder that we were supposed to see GH as a man's world.

I have hated all GH opening credits since Frons.

Falling out over what? Money? Or the same old backstage politics?

Re: the credits - I feel that TPTB went this route because they wanted an "edgier" soap opening and probably thought the Dave Koz Faces of the Heart one was outdated. Problem is, too much flash was going on there and I could barely make out who the hell was in the cast. When I finally get to the white background ending, Luke just walks off the stage for some random reason...

I truly don't get it or why the women weren't included in that ending.

Beautiful performance from Rachel Ames in this episode. I never stop being annoyed at how GH dumped her.

So was the dead child Lesley mentioned Laura?

Was this after GH's first big purge (leading to the exits of Howie Dawson, Nurse Pinkham, etc.)? Or were they still around? How much longer was Lucille around?

    • The thing with Martin (for me) is that he should have been Anita and Vernon's kid. I honestly think he would have been fine being an older or younger brother to Dani and Nicole. It also would have made his relationship and kids feel more realistic. A handsome salt and pepper late 40s/early 50s congressman who settled down and adopted kids to fit an image for politics. Not that he didn't want this lifestyle but it is what he needed to do to get ahead. Also, we don't often get older characters playing LGBT roles not just on daytime but across most media. It would have been a refreshing take. As an alternative, Sam and Ty could have been Martin's kids from an earlier marriage a la the NJ governor that was outed. We could have also seen parallels between Vernon and Anita thinking back to how they handled Martin coming out compared to the way they accepted Chelsea.  As for Martin being Nicole and Ted's kid, I do wish in this case he was not tied to a marriage and kids, so that he could date and sleep around like any other character on a soap.  Yeah, I didn't get it...but what I did get is that girl is a bit crazy like her mama.  Vanessa and Joey talking about the poker table...get these people off my screen.

    • Unpopular opinion, but I didn't think the show should have reunited Billy/Vanessa at all until the final stretch of the show. When watching the 1989 episodes when both Vanessa and Billy return after being off the show... I liked that Vanessa had moved on from him and that the show was hinting at her wanting to reunite with her first love Ross while looking down at Nadine for being the one Ross was dating.  And I loved the twist where Billy and Nadine teamed up to keep Vanessa/Ross apart.   This was an interesting concept that sadly the writers dropped with the show deciding to make Vanessa pine over Billy between 1990 and 1993 when they finally reunited.   To me, Vanessa pining over Billy seemed out of character. At least once Billy was carted off to prison in 1994... she and Billy divorced and stayed divorced until the final months when they finally found their way back together.  During the years when they were divorced, I liked that they had maintained a friendship and connection.. with viewers (like my late mom) wondering if they would ever decide to make it work again. I wish the show had tried that with Josh/Reva because by the time of the final episode when they rode off into the sunset, I didn't care because we'd been through the make up and break ups between them for over 10+ years by that point.
    • I break down the primetime soap era (start of Dallas to end of Knots Landing) as  Up to Spring 1982: Building the foundation. Fall 1982-Spring 1985: Peak. Fall 1985-Spring 1988: Tanking. Fall 1988 onward: Off the rails plus budget mode. Of course individual shows vary and I've broken down each show in their threads.
    • I’m ready for Portia and Curtis to divorce and get it over with. Portia cheating with Isaiah would make for a fun love quadrangle with Jordan.

    • They didn't need to have some slutty gay dude as their representation. Just a 'normal' guy getting involved with another guy or two (or three). Just like the straight characters. Thinking about it, they missed the boat by not having a few other single charcters at the beginning. Maybe Naomi or Ashley could be shown meeting Derek/Jacob and  we could follow their romance. Too many characters were coupled up at the start. As a tattoo hater I was surprised to see Tomas so inked. Don't find it attractive or sexy. I'm surprised an actor would do that as it's definitely a statement and may not be appropriate for some roles. Suppose they can cover if necessary. I didn't buy Kat being all girly and then paying off Darius to get into Eva's room. Way too cliche. She should have just come along when the housekeeping was leaving and breezed in saying it was her room. And her smug looks in the hotel room and 'Now I've got you!!' talks to herself at Orphey Gene's...no.
    • Omg I was so annoyed. Like girl calm down. Coming on way too strong. Omg I forgot about this
