Digest has learned that daytime newcomer Kelly Sullivan joins GENERAL HOSPITAL in the recast role of Sonny's ex, fashion maven Kate Howard. She replaces Megan Ward, who originated Kate in 2007 and played her until 2010. The role is contract, and Sullivan is expected to start airing in early fall.

Maxie's MIA boss, Kate Howard, will soon be back to Port Charles, but she will be looking a bit different after all that time recently spent in Paris and Milan: GENERAL HOSPITAL has cast Kelly Sullivan to replace Megan Ward in the contract role of Olivia's cousin -- and Sonny's ex-fiancée. While Sullivan has had bit parts on ONE LIFE TO LIVE and AS THE WORLD TURNS, this marks her first major daytime role. She also guest-starred on LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT as a murdered astronaut, and will appear in several upcoming movies, including the thriller 333 with SUPERNATURAL's Corin Nemec and Camryn Grimes (ex-Cassie, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS). Sullivan will make her GH debut in September.

In other GH casting news, the soap will be bringing two new characters into the fold this fall: Ewan Keenan, a hunky thirtysomething doctor, and Gina Soleita, the 19-year-old only daughter of a New York crime boss. Both are contract roles scheduled to start taping in September.

Yeah, I don't get why Ward and Kate were dropped but now, with a new actress, the role is suddenly prominent again and can be written for? Something must of gone on behind the scenes.

Why do they cast these young women for MB? MW was perfect. At least its not Tamara so thank god for small favors

But MW was perfectly fine and did the smart, classy, bitchy fashionatta perfectly. And she was AGE APPROPRIATE

This is probably more money than anything. I suspect they don;t have the money to pay for anyone pricey which

is likely why MW is not back
