There aren't that many vets to lose, really. I would be surprised if MEK wasn't involved in this, and Walt Willey may want to be involved. I don't want to see Debbi go, but she was gone from AMC for almost 20 years, and they moved on. I hope Jill Larson may stay, and Susan Lucci, but generally most of AMC's past is long gone. I know it won't happen but I'm hoping this new show may end up actually bringing a few people back. For instance, it would be nice to bring back Sam Gray, and then maybe some of his family like Bobby or Nina (I'm picking Sam mostly because it sounds like this will be a youth thing or whatever). They could also bring Petey back.

They could get a lot of cheap new talent to round out the cast if need be and I think the best way to go about that is by aging/recasting familiar characters like those you mentioned. Maria's kids for example may appeal to long-term viewers in a way that rando made-up relatives like Asher will not. Plus Maddie and Sam leave the door open for Eva LaRue. I would also highly recommend bringing Petey and even Jamie back, reCassie as well, and regardless of the show's current stance, there is room for Frankie's son William (think Rex and Shane in terms of age).

R Sinclair I didn't mean to bitch at you--I guess we're arguing different issues. For 20 years after she made that business decision it was NOT a bad business decision.

I really hope they can get some super talented fresh blood in the writing rooms. Gifted, young (and ha, less expensive!) writers with or without prior knowledge of these shows but a genuine interest in serialized drama (with some industry mentors on the team as HW or consultants at least in the beginning). Although there is a lot to be learned from them, a part of this new birth should be the end of relying on all of the usual suspects to HW these shows. Time to make things less cliquish and to embrace talent outside of the soap box.

If they get non union writers/directors/etc i doubt union actors would be willing, or able, to do it.

Why would a production company that has handled Royal Pains go non union?

because this is online, not tv. ya never know.

Why didn't they just call the article No Sh!t, Sherlock? I haven't seen anyone saying this will be easy, or that they will keep the amount of viewers they have.

All true but I like the fact that they mentioned Jon Stewart. Even though The Daily Show (TDS) broadcasts its clips on the TDS website they also show them on Hulu. Last year the deal with Hulu fell through and they stopped showing TDS and Colbert. People went berserk. Hulu finally added the content back about 2-3 months ago because of all the requests on both Hulu and Comedy Central to return it there.

Obviously that's a different show with a different audience. But a big portion of that audience watches online. Enough that it made them change a business decision.

Good point, but even then they basically need to tell us this won't happen with soaps.

They can't. It's a brave new world. Or its the same old mismanaged chickenshit world just on the web.

I can't wait to find out which.

I don't know why but those "states the obvious" type articles passed off as great wisdom always get on my nerves.

Most of the new web shows are not covered fully by the union and union actors work on them thru waivers from their unions

I could see something similar here or maybe AFTRA which currently covers daytime Drama will work something out with them as far as pay minimums, hours and such
