I think just about every major soap, save GL and EON aired in Australia at one point in the 60's,70's and into the 80's.

At one point the line-up on the 9 network went for many years in the 70's went AW 11.00 -12.00, Days 1.30 - 2.30. Y& R 2.30 - 3.00,GH 3.00 -3.30 and SFT 3.30 - 4.00

Wouldn't it be great if some of those tapes were unearthed?

And, both original stars of the ABC prime time show Eight Is Enough (Dick Van Patten and Diana Hyland) both appeared on Young Doctor Malone and were re-united on Eight Is Enough. That show, as many produced by Lorimer, was produced by many former soap opera executives who hired much of the soap opera talent which had immigrated west.

Carol Irwin died while the show was still on the air. Initially, Doris Quinlan acted as an interim producer before permanently replacing Irwin. If Irwin did work on other soaps, it would have had to be prior to Doctor Malone.

Yes, the picture of Dianna Hyland above is terrible! I wonder if her character was bad.

She played ministers' wives both in the movie A Man Called Peter and on the primetime serial Peyton Place.

Actor Dick van Patten, who played Larry Renfrew on Young Doctor Malone in 1961 and 1962 has passed away. I hope to post an obituary later.

Diana Hyland joined as Gig Houseman on Thurs March 2 1961.

Gig was described as a 'pretty, wealthy divorcee who becomes a patient of Dr David Malone, a young bachelor'

Hyland was 25 at that time.

Variety reported in May 59 that with NBC possibly cancelling YDM and/or From These Roots P&G might move either of them over to CBS into the 2.00 timeslot following ATWT. Imagine things would have been very different for those shows in that timeslot.
