Hmm

I think now it would just undercut whatever image the goddess was going for and make them all look sort of wannabe. I guess it depends on the coat, but I can't think of who anymore would look good in it.

You don't really have those types of strong female characters anymore - I would say Nikki, Jill, Viki, Dorian, Erica, Kate, Vivian.

Nikki whenever I saw her in a fur years ago looked like a poor woman dressing up in a rich costume, same for Jill. Those two are the ones I think of for this topic because the few times I have seen them, they were in furs. They looked like lotto winners who immediately ran out and bought a fur because that is what rich people do.

Of that list, I think Erica is just too stylish to wear fur at the moment, Viki is too kind to animals. The others I guess could depending on the cut, but I think the only one that would pull the look off successfully would be Vivian. Robin Strasser would come across as "Look at my Joan Collins impersonation, dammit!" I think a fur coat would make Kate look older.

Viki wore furs for quite a few years and she usually looked good in them - I think it might restore some of the grand lady edge to her.

I do agree about Jill, although I think that's down to the nasty thing they stuck her in (which was very old and handed over from Brenda Dickson).

Whenever I see Dorian and Viki in fake fur I die a little.

That coat Dorian's wearing at the 1:00 mark is also fur. Sheared and dyed mink like the colorful ones Sally Field wears in Soapdish. There was a trend to make real coats look faux in the late '80s/early '90s with the rise of animal rights activism.

Morgan Fairchild's Sydney Chase on The City was the last soap character to wear big power furs like chinchilla and lynx. I have a very strong hunch that those were Morgan's own coats as she provided much of her character's wardrobe.

It's always strange when you see a character who isn't a bitch/diva wearing a fur - like Kim on ATWT.

What do you think of those furs that look like they're going to eat the person wearing them (like the one Rae is wearing in that clip)?

I think one thing that furs did which soaps don't have now is to help reinforce a class system, and delusions of grandeur. RH did this to great effect with Delia, as she got a fur from Roger that she wore all the time, then when her stockbroker began blackmailing her for sex, he got her a gorgeous white coat to essentially tell her he owned her.

Kate could still rock them.

She certainly would. She rocks furs like nobody else.

Asa did marry a madam (more than once), so there is nothing wrong with him looking like a pimp!

So true. But, he does. And, it's making me crack up

All he needs is a lime green dress shirt and a zebra print cane.

I'm totally gonna photoshop that pic soon.
