Really enjoying your reviews of this era @Vee as I keep meaning to watch more myself. And thank you for answering my question several pages back about the good period of the "Cartini" era.

I should add since I recently revisited those scenes: I adored the Addie Cramer rehabilitation storyline in '07/'08, and all her subsequent appearances. It was such a wonderful, unexpected surprise at the time. I was as floored as her family, and they just kept going with her painting the town red.

My understanding is they had bigger plans for Addie pre-strike, namely allegedly revealing that Miles Laurence was actually somehow Blair's brother (a character I would've liked to see introduced myself, but very differently) - I think there was maybe one scene that did air or spoiled bit that didn't make it to air in early '08, where Addie had some flash of recognition re: Miles. But none of that got followed up when the strike hit.

There were rumors in recent times that Frons hated the show bringing back Andrea Evans that same year, as he found her 'too old' and supposedly insisted Tina's storyline be couched around the youth set at all times and then cut short. He was still a micromanager in that era and I could believe it, as her exit was abrupt and didn't seem at the time like something the show was pleased to do in her final episodes that year. So I can believe that he might've pushed back on further major story for Addie and Pamela Payton-Wright, who was even older. But however silly her little stories got (like the fling with David), I was happy for them even when I wanted more, and happier still that Addie never regressed into her illness. And I was thrilled she appeared in the penultimate network episode with the rest of the Cramers. I miss characters and flourishes like hers a lot.

This is a scene I never forgot, just before the strike (timestamped below) and one of the best the show did in its final era.

@Vee Thanks. That's a great scene. Pamela is so regal. I'm amazed, although I shouldn't be given the industry, that she never got any icy matriarch roles onscreen. I hope she got those chances on the stage.

The lack of use for Addie in those last few years was a big disappointment. I remember the theories about Miles (didn't he just disappear - I don't know now). I can believe it was Frons. I can also see him hating Tina's return (which was a mess and a very odd choice to do it during Erika's vacation, but he probably did make it worse). I could see him being one of the reasons we got so much Jessica and Tess.

I'm glad they never regressed Addie either.

I had really wanted them to bring Melinda back too, rather than killing her off.

Yep. It was more than a theory though, there was something there and it was probably the brother angle. I don't really know how that would've made Miles (already a convoluted, ludicrous character c/o Higley) more relevant but I was open to it.

I originally thought in '08 that they would use Andrea and Tina going forward to cover Erika's vacations, which I thought was a smart idea. Unfortunately it didn't happen. I think Tina's story was a mess that year, but I can see elements of it potentially being hamstrung for the reasons rumored re: mandates. And I did think Andrea had wonderful chemistry with everyone including Christopher Cousins, who she'd never shared key story with. They had a surprisingly tender final scene together after having a roll in the hay in November.

Andrea Evans tribute channel on youtube launched May 2025.
clips from all her soaps, interviews, Emmys, etc.

Michael Fairman says it was launched by her family and he typed up description of the contents here:

Apparently they are continuing to add more material to the channel

Thank you for this information. I've actually had Tina Lord on the mind last week, thinking of a old friend who used to obsess over her and thinking she at least got the HEA I wanted for her when I was young. But I had the biggest crush on Cord.

Thank you for saying this. You made me more intigued and was spot on!

I'm so happy to hear this. ❤️ I would love if more and more people are intrigued by this particular period of the show, I personally find it breathtaking at times. BTW, we just came back from a long vacation and I'm missing Llanview so much. I was not able to watch... the whole time I was away. I've never missed a show like this. Ever.

Up to July 15th, 1992.

"Rumors have wings."

Oh my God! I can't believe I'm back.❤️ Back to my favorite show! Last time I watched OLTL 1992 was probably close to 3 weeks ago. Then we had a 2 week vacation for which I promised my husband I will not touch my phone. But tonight, finally... I managed 2 entire episodes!

🔷

So what is going on right now?

Leanne Demerest is in serious trouble. Her destructive trail of lies and deception has finally come back to bite her... Right now, her baby has too many dads! Kevin, who is his legal father (for now), Max, who she promises "It's your son!" and Jason, who somehow ended up being the baby caretaker. Of course, predictably so, we are heading for a nasty court battle for dear baby Duke... Classic soap stuff. You can't go wrong with this kind of cliches, people just eat it up. Bold has made an entire show around stuff like this. Personally, not my cup of tea, but I still want to see Leanne fall on her butt.

🔷

Now that Alex Olanov (I can't say Alex Hesser for some reason) has finally managed to get rid of Carlo's annoying niece... she has only one problem left to deal with - Addie saw everything. She saw that Stephanie was not alone and that Alex basically orchestrated the entire aftermath of the killing. So, true to her nature... Alex paid Addie a nasty little visit to threaten her.

🔷

Not that the writers have nothing of substance to give Cain and Tina, they've decided to make them part of the mob world of Llanview. Cain agreed to help Alex Olanov plan and steal Cleopatra's jewels. Speaking of the jewels... we saw this mysterious man, an expert of sorts that looked exactly like Carlo in a bad wig. 😂 Don't tell me Carlo faked his death?!  If this is a new role, then they have my attention.

🔷

Marty aka The vilest creature in Llanview continued her quest to destroy Andrew. This girl is such a demon. I don't know if she is inherently evil or just incredibly broken, but I don't care. I will never ever forgive her for this. What is happening right now is just horrifying - the entire town is whispering about Andrew, his alleged homosexuality and even more hurtful - the insinuation that he somehow was involved with this kid Billie. This is dark stuff. You can't get more dark than this. They are really not the typical soap opera, I give them that. Sometimes all of this sounds like it's coming from a Dostoevsky novel. Not in a bad way. At all. I would love if some of that serious more dark tone can be done in modern days. Soaps have become such a joke circa 2025.

🔷

Last, but not least... Jason felt betrayed once again by Leanne and ran to Dorian, who was reveling in the return of her little homeless dog. The puppy came back to beg for food and shelter. He wants his job back, of course, planning to help Leanne with the money, but Dorian has other plans. She started smirking and looking around the room, probably wondering if it's time to put on the lingerie. Dorian is acting like the female Asa. Using her power and influence to make him sleep with her.

Clip of the day

Psycho over the top Alex torments poor Addie. Bad, bad Alex! (I love Alex's theme music)

@Maxim Thanks as always. They must have had fun making those drawings. Tonja Walker certainly had fun getting to play psycho Alex again, eyes a-poppin'. The most frightening part of that clip was her outfit.

We Love Soaps TV has reuploaded a number of old interviews. Here's one from 2010 with the Cramer women.

A "lost" episode with Shenell Edmonds.

How many actors played Harry O'Neal?  And were they all approximately the same age?  My memory is that the final actor in the role was much younger than the others.  But I could be wrong.  Anyone remember Harry O'Neal?

😂 As Dorian put it couple of episodes ago (commenting on the "A" necklace) - "One can never be too vulgar!" ❤️

Stumbled on this news item while I was researching something else. Kristen Vigard (Joy O'Neill) was originally cast on OLTL to be the new Tina! But writers decided to hold off on bringing Tina back (at that time) so they decided to create a brand new character for Vigard, and that is how the O'Neill family came to exist - read below

She actually looks a lot like a "Tina" now as I think about it. Thanks for this little bit.
