In 1970, it would have still been Gillian Spencer playing Viki since I think I read that Joann Dorian had only been in the role for about 6 months when Erika took over in March of 1971....so if the wedding was in April, Gillian should have still been on the show then.

That being said, I don't know where Viki would have been at that time....it was before my time...lol. I like Khan's answer though. laugh.png

Yep, it would have been Gillian Spencer....Joann Dorian didn't take over as Viki until October 1970.

Someone uploaded a chunk of Karen/Larry footage from what must be some time in 1981. I put it in the Videobash section. It's so nice to get to see more of Karen! I also don't understand why the show gave up on Larry as a leading man.

This is also the first time I've seen this Anna Wolek (I think it's Phyllis Behar). Kind of drab.

I feel that Viki must be next to Victor...the pic maybe is not complete....practically all the cast is there, so Viki must be there. I would be great the complete pic, including Victor and Viki!!!

Did Joann Dorian ever play any major stories with Vicki? I know for a while after Gillian left it seemed Vicki was backburnered (though I believe very very early in Erika's run she had the whole gaslighting storyline with Francesca James as Marcie).

In the OLTL tribute magazine Erika seems to imply she tried hard to get Larry back for the finale--I wonder if they ever considered it. I guess he was just seen as eventually too much of a nice guy, and was aging, to be leading man, but really they shouldhave worked harder to move him into more a patriarch position then.

Megan and Max share memories in the hospital as she's dying of Lupus. You can tell here how much Gabrielle's betrayal (cheating on him during their marriage) hurt him, and of course he's trying to deny that he loved her by saying he was "addicted to her."

He really didn't mention her much when she was in prison, did he? The Max & Megan stuff, I'll admit, is pretty good, but not to take away from another intelligent blonde or anything wink.pngtongue.pnglaugh.png , but I just don't know if I can let myself enjoy their scenes more over Max/Gabby's TOO much!

According to this Dorian didn't do much in the roughly 5 months (Oct. 1970 to Mar. 1971) that she played Viki...

Joanne Dorian replaced Gillian Spencer in the role of Victoria Lord Riley in October 1970. The storyline was Vince Wolek going to trial for the murder of drug dealer Artie Duncan. To help Vince, Viki’s husband Joe Riley went to California to find evidence on the case. While there, his car went off of a cliff. With Joe missing, Spencer’s Viki and her sister Meredith went to California to try to find him. When they returned to Llanview two weeks later, Joanne Dorian was playing Viki.

Joanne Dorian’s Viki was refreshing. Stylistically, her Viki wore a lot of modern day, early 1970s ‘sophisticated lady’ pantsuits and such, and kept her very long hair in an upsweep style that was very becoming to the character. Meanwhile, although Dorian’s Viki was formatted very close to how she had been with Gillian Spencer…what probably hindered her is that she didn’t get to indulge in what at the time had been trademark Viki distinctions. Dorian’s Viki never got to play wife to Joe—as Lee Patterson had left the show before Gillian Spencer did—nor did she ever play Niki Smith. And unlike when Slezak later took over, Dorian’s Viki didn’t interact with future love interest Steve Burke, despite his now being on the canvas. During Dorian’s time on board as Viki, the character was largely isolated to primarily interacting with Victor and Meredith. In mid March 1971, upon the episode commencing, the voice over announcer proclaimed: “The role of Victoria Lord Riley will now be played by Erika Slezak.” The change was very abrupt, as Dorian had just been on the day before.

In conclusion, Joanne Dorian’s Viki can be summed up as amicable. During the actresses brief time onboard, Viki was pretty much a day-to-day, ‘every woman’ character. Her circumstances weren’t especially outrageous, and aside from playing the coping widow of the recently assumed dead Joe Riley, her plotlines weren’t particularly over the top. She, though, would serve as a nice bridge between Spencer and Slezak.

I'd never seen that. Thanks for finding it. So he dropped OLTL in 1990...another fan who seemed to be driven away by that year.

Actually Jessica wasn't really "aged rapidly" at all, compared to other characters. That's one of the only kind things I can say about the show's treatment of that character.

It came up when I was looking for an opera singer with the last name Valentini actually... Very random.

And yeah--I can totally see why a number of people, especially who had been sucked in by the Rauch era, fled in 1990, as we've discussed. Of course he also says he started watching in school and it sounds like, like many, he stopped when school and college were done and work started.

He said he stopped because of Andrea Evans leaving and then repeatedly said he asked for her to be brought back in 2008. I hope he enjoyed her 2011 return more than that 2008...thing.

It seems like OLTL had little going for it anywhere in 1990, and if you weren't a specific fan of say, Gabrielle, Bo, Viki, or Megan, then you probably weren't going to watch.
