Members DRW50
AddieCate has put up some OLTL clips from 1995 - this one goes along with the Viki DID clips around the time Jean briefly disappeared and Viki took back over. I don't think this one has been online, although I might be wrong. Please register in order to view this content

Members BKuzak
I have conflicting feelings about Jerry's version of Clint. On one hand i thought he did pretty good but I also think he could have come on as yet another one of Asa's long lost sons. He still could have had the storylines with Viki and Dorian but it wouldn't have been so out of character to turn him into someone even meanier than Asa. Jerry's a good actor and i do think he has chemestry with all his leading ladies (both One Life and Guiding Light) but i would have perfered him not to be Clint. Now for the past six months watching all the early scenes of Clint Ritchie as Clint and his early years of marriage to Viki, i just think they should have kept him in London. that way when Ritchie died, they could have found out in Llanview and had a nice funeral for him filled with flashbacks of him with Asa, Bo, Viki and others who had scenes with him over the 29 years he was on the show.

Members DRW50
Even if someone loved Clint I think it would have been a fitting end. Although I will admit that making life hell for McBain is also a perfectly fine way of atoning.
Members Khan
Yep. Recasting him with JVD -- who, don't get me wrong, is a brilliant actor -- was not the brightest idea.
Members danfling
I think that he was an excellent replacement.
Members BKuzak
I always really liked Sloan and Viki together because she seemed so strong when she was with him. He seemed to bring out the very proper Lord in her. He was the stuffy general and with him she seemed a lot more like Jean Randolph than ever before. She seemed like the way she probably was when her father was alive before Joe Riley came into her life and brought her some fun. but now watching the "Viki & Clint love story" clips on Youtube, i really understand why people hated him so much. I hear even Roy Thinnes's (Sloan) mother was like "Your not going to break up that marriage are you!" and he said, "I don't know. I just show up and read the lines." Viki and Clint had a lot of very good times during their 12 year marriage. a lot of bad ones too because Clint was a hot head but Viki seemed to know how to control him. if Paul Raunch had stayed on One Life, Viki and Clint would have never divorced. I was Linda Gottleb who decided to mess everything up.
Members saynotoursoap
I agree with Carl and BKuzak regarding Clint. JVD is an excellent actor, but he is Ross Marler, not Clint Buchanan. Clint should have died with Clint Ritchie. However, I diasgree that Clint and Viki never would have divorced if Rauch had remained EP. In fact, Clint and Viki had already divorced under Rauch when Niki Smith re-emerged. I loved the Linda Gottlieb era. I watched OLTL from the first episode in 1968, and the 1992-95 years were more like the early, classic years than any other era. I feel Gottlieb gets a bad rap for the Clint/Viki breakup. Soaps are about drama and conflict. Viki and Clint happy all the time is boring. I do understand the distaste for them breaking up over Clint's homophobia. His reaction was distasteful to me, as well. Malone could have explored that issue better and devised a more plausible reason for it. But, eventually, I believe Clint and Viki would have found their way back to one another under Gottlieb and Malone.
Members DRW50
I don't have a big problem with Clint and Viki breaking up, although I do think CR and ES were among the best soap couples ever. I just hate that Viki's character became so weakened in the process.
Members Khan
According to Michael Malone, that indeed was the plan. Unfortunately, Clint Ritchie's accident and prolonged recovery altered the direction of the story.
