Oh good Lord. I am laughing hysterically at this La Kane line:

"You think I give a damn who you grope in the cemetery bushes?"

Maria was no match for Erica. Erica wiped the floor with her.

Been watching this playlist most of the weekend. As it states, it’s lot of Erica, but also a whole heap of other storylines in there, especially Natalie’s initial machinations against Erica and Jeremy.

What I found interesting is even back in December 1985, they were already mentioning Janet by name in scenes between Natalie and Alex Hunter, which indicates to me that they had a solid backstory set up to use for Natalie later down the line. But it was a real treat watching Natalie/Erica scenes - those two were quite matched on the rivalry stakes!

Wow -- what a rich cast AMC had during that era !  The Erica-Natalie rivalry was one of my favorites of all time.

I do have to wonder why TPTB even bothered recasting Nina...I feel sorry for Barbara Kearns, there was just no way anyone could make us forget Taylor Miller -- she was just too popular and too perfect in the role of fairy tale princess Nina.  There were enough other characters on the canvas, Nina just should have been written out until TM was ready to return.

Erica wiped the floor with both Maria and Brooke without breaking a sweat.

Natalie and Barbara were more evenly matched against Erica.

Although Annie in the late 2000s went a few rounds with Erica successfully.  Of the younger set..Annie and Erica could verbally spar.

Taylor Miller is a really distinctive performer with those patrician features of hers and her all-around screen presence. The second Nina was physically right for the role, but they saddled her with some pretty horrible material. The third, dark-haired Nina might as well have landed from Mars, she seemed so alien.

Speaking of Erica, here’s another episode I stumbled upon, from AMC’s 20th anniversary month in January 1990. Some gold in here - Chuck, Donna, Emily Ann, Phoebe, Billy Clyde, Travis, Jack, Erica, Natalie, Skye.

I love how fresh the episode looked here... it still feels somewhat contemporary compared to today’s standards!

@OzFrog you ain’t the only one I been all over that channel lately.

I like the actress who played the crazy nutcase Nina . She was hysterical! Yes, I understand, she wasn’t Taylor Miller! but I enjoyed her pulling out guns at weddings and such.

La Kane was always written to win. Major problem I always had with the character. I chuckled anytime you read Brooke though, i could have written far better comebacks for Brooke against Erica.

love me some Barbara, but that Natalie fascinated me the most. She was so complex, had chemistry with any men walking. Ross and Natalie had super couple potential. I enjoyed watching them sneak around more than Brooke/Adam courtship and Erica/Travis too! We would have completely different show if I was writing it.

I'm still trying to get through 1991-92, but skipped ahead and watched some of that September 1994 episode.  I've also caught bits and pieces of what there is on YouTube from that "sequel" a few years later with Mattson's Janet pretending to be someone else in order to once again marry Trevor.

I say sequel intentionally, because it really has the vibe of one of the sequels to summer blockbusters from that era that were paint-by-numbers retreads of originals, which—love them or hate them—had real talent involved and were genuinely beloved by many, e.g., Home Alone 2, Addams Family Values, the many Jurassic Park sequels, etc.  Especially with that actress who played Janet and Natalie's mother, whom I feel like I saw in so many things in the '90s.  And I know Harold the Dog had an even more far-fetched arc, which I kind of wish I could find on YouTube.

And like those movie sequels, that story seemingly hinged on nobody having learned anything the first time.  Did they even try to explain why someone who had committed Janet's particular crimes would have ever been chosen for such an experiment, or why nobody knew Janet was out of jail and had a new face?

As a teen I loved the return of Janet (and all her mirror talks) but that's a good point--I don't think they did ever explain why she was given the experimental surgery (and it's not like people would follow her later to see how the surgery worked out...)  But Jane Cox was great, and Harold figuring it out lol

    • Wow, do I agree with you. Chelsea is coming off as ridiculous. All she does is look for a woman to date while not caring about her business at all. That she's bi is great, but they're not writing her like she's bi. She seems to be lesbian. Yeah, I know -- "no labels." I just don't find the writing for her story to be anything other than awkward.   -- I hope we get some diagnosis finality with Bill's trip to the hospital. I don't want to see these trips to the ER every other day. -- Naomi is going to blame herself for Bill's health problems? GMAB. -- Ashley doesn't read as a real nurse in the slightest. -- Another day, another rinse and repeat conversation with Derek and Ashley. YAWN. -- Kat is making mistakes, but she's fun to watch and listen to, regardless. -- I still think the Joey/Vanessa/Doug gambling story sucks. I know Doug is deeply in debt, but I don't like him acting this meek and submissive.  -- I'm not sure what Joey's plan was from the beginning, or why he had to seduce Vanessa at all to get his way. I'm not sure what Vanessa ever saw in Joey -- why doesn't he give her the ick? -- I'm fine with a story where Doug and Vanessa take out Joey.  -- The fades to commercials were pretty bad today.
    •   Victoria's house (that she long ago lived in with Billy) burned down (I think Aunt Jordan set ablaze?). Mariah and Tessa and baby Aria had been living in the tack house but they bought a house we've never seen and moved there. Victoria, Claire, and Cole now live in the tack house.
    • Victoria’s previous house burned down.    And I know why characters frequent Crimson Lights 3 times a day for brownies, muffins and empty mugs:   THERE’S PCP IN EVERYTHING.
    • Today was a good episode, and the week for that matter. I think they've also done a better job with background music. The scenes in todays episode weren't as silent as they usually are in the background and it was noticeable. I think the show has found its groove well and I'm still invested.
    • Garneau was in the Liberal party and his riding was in Montreal. He was the first Canadian in outer space.
    • I agree. I really have enjoyed this story from the beginning. I feel like it needed the time for us to care about Doug. They've done a nice job of explaining his motives and making me care for him. I still feel like he's doomed and Vanessa will end up being a widow and now I'm invested in that *not* happening now that I've fallen for him. Friday was good but so was the entire week. I think they're doing such a nice job of keeping things moving. We got good movement with Bill's story this week, Chelsea is attempting to date, Andre and Dani are having tough conversations about their relationship, of course Anita reunited with Sharon. There is *so* much going on and I didn't even cover all of it.  I wish all of the soaps would take a page out of BTG book and start rotating their stories. I love that everybody is getting a chance to shine and they don't just sit on one lead story to the point you get sick of it.
    • Did Jordan Clarke have a departure sometime between 1985 and 1989? I know Robert Newman had three runs: 1981-1984, 1986-1991, 1993-end.
    • Well, they usually weren't on the show at the time for long until the late 90's. But yeah, they really deserved a story centered on them, and not through the lens of Reva.
    • Chelsea was doing the absolute most today! Why was she introducing her sister to a woman she doesnt know? That whole scene was embarrassing. Madison needs to stay away from her bc she is too immature
    • Gosh, what a waste with Lunacy. Why have her live with $B, reveal Finn, pardon her, etc What makes this story incredibly hollow is that what Luna is asking isn't unreasonable - to spend time with her cousin father. She's not asking to move in with them. How hard with it be for Finn to throw her a bone by, say, I'll meet you for lunch/coffee once at week at the hospital cafeteria. Lunacy isn't going to hurt Finn. In fact, all her crimes were related to finding her father and it turns out to be someone she's loved her entire life. Instead of course-correcting the nonsense of last summer, Brad somehow found a way to make this worse! That's a skill... Of all the younger actors B&B has cast during the past 5 years, LY has shown the most growth and range. Why get rid of her?
