I think the show should perhaps cut its losses with Marissa. Not only were her scenes with J.R. devoid of chemistry, Minx chem is pretty zzzzz too not to mention that Biancé needs herself a real lesbian.

Krystal admitting she loves Jack to Tad wasn't as awful as I was expecting. I was glad that she encouraged him to move forward with Cara.

I loved Opal sending Caleb to the wrong room and trying to warn Erica. If only Caleb had taken the hint and got lost.

I know it's just a soap, but it annoys me when people travel as fast as Marissa did today. I do like Minx, though, so I was glad she left JR so quickly and ended up with Bianca.

It looks like TPTB are chemistry testing Maya with both JR & Asher. So far, I'm rooting for JR.

Agreed with all.

And yeah the travelling always bugs me--though they don't teleport quite like they do on OLTL.

In a last big to save AMC they're moving the show to St Bart's....

Best scenes of the day: Anything KANE women related Erica/Kendall & Erica/Bianca individual scenes were fantastic, as were the scenes with them all together! I love their signature holding of the hands & hug! I just love all of them!! And they all look stunning, especially Bianca, I love her hair pulled up.

Loved the scene with Bianca sitting alone with her engagement ring, then cramming that mimosa down her throat. CBL didn't even have to say anything to really sell that scene. She did great.

Caleb looked stupid professing his love to Erica and begging her to choose him. I really hated those scenes. They brought the show down. I can't stand Caleb at all, I can't say it enough.

Marissa is a terrible lawyer & she doesn't even realize it. This biotch was acting like she won Bianca's case when she barely did anything! If I'm not mistaken when those French lawyers came along and started giving her crap, she ran straight to Jack and he fixed everything. That plus JR was the one who got Reese to drop the case now anyway. This is all thanks to Jackson and JR, not you Marissa. Get it untwisted!

No spark between Asher & Maya at all IMO. I was annoyed with him today immensely, sitting around eating bread and sandwhiches hovering around Maya as she worked. All I could think was GTFAway!! I want to be excited for when she meets Colby but in the end I don't see myself caring that much. You can see the outline of the triangle clearly already and I can't say I'm looking forward to it. Maybe if Damon or Sam Grey were in the middle & not Asher.

Marissa, Caleb, & Asher. 3 useless characters who the show can easily get rid of and no one would really care. If only AMC realized that.

Asher is just so meh, but I didn't really mind his brief scenes with Maya--the only stuff that bugged me today was Caleb, otherwise I thought it was a solid episode. Yes, I'd love to see Opal get her own story (and life) but it seemed fitting to me to have her overeact at the wedding. I'm even starting to find all this ridiculous Ricky/evil stuff more entertaining. Also, it's oddly refreshing to see new sets (OK maybe not that odd at all...) I do seem to be in the minority in that I do like Marissa and Binaca, but I'm tired of them not seeming to have a direction for Marissa and this back and forth...

I think what tweedle dee and tweedle duh were trying to show is JR is controlling pretty much everything. If you think about it, his fixation is the idea of a family. But b/c most could care less about Marissa we can't see it.. the way he's going about it is classic Chandler.

In the span of 1 to 11/2 a yr.

He controlled Annie who he loved but couldn't express and it blew up b/c she loss control and he couldn't control her

He controls Marissa via AJ and her occupation as a lawyer

He somewhat controls Bianca's life (custody) via Marissa

He controls Reese (custody/employment) via Bianca & Marissa

He controls Asher

He partially controls Colby

He has control of this Maya girl

And partially controls Amanda via employment

BTW do we call her jail bait Maya?

The reason we can't see it w/ Marissa is b/c Sarah isn't a good actor, she's trying to show Marissa desperately trying to pull away and she falls flat showing it. Imagine CS or RB or SG or AM and especially MCE playing that part, you'd feel it. But Sarah leaves you w/ a :huh:

Look how Maya reacted, that should have been Marissa. Instead this girl upstaged Sarah in the same scene. Not bad for a newbie.

That scene was suppose to be about Marissa's will breaking, and Sarah let this girl steal her spotlight. I definitely can see right now she will not be able to handle a big enough story like going gay. The smallest thing as a phone call telling him whoever, likely Marissa or Colby took a flight somewhere set JR off to a point he had to control said person's whereabouts.

That's part of it. The other part, I think, is that Marissa has always been so ill-defined as a character (which is also why I think it's so incredibly easy and tempting to have her 'go gay' for Binks). Aside from JR's estranged wife and David and Krystal's other daughter, who is she? What purpose does she serve on AMC's canvas? IMO, if you can take out a character, replace her (or him) w/ another character, and more-or-less achieve the same effect story-wise, something's wrong.

Agreed, I think Blake became a woman who learned from her mistakes and grew up. I too wanted them to be the core couple after the Tori thing, as a matter of fact, around Wheeler after Simon left I wanted them to move into the Bauer house..( I would have Blake say that this is the closet thing she knew as a home )SORAS the kids, and bring Sam back..Dinah would have a very contentious relationship with her, as she would be jealous of Ross and Sam's relationship, and Blake and Dinah would have that tension (ya, know cause she killed his brother) it would be a core family that had some fissures leading to good drama. But now, Wheeler and company though the Coopers should be the core.

Agree that great minds can think alike :)
In terms of Derek, I see the show doing one of two things based on the most recent episodes that featured him.
1) They do the gradual fade-out of the character until he stops appearing and is occasionally mentioned by Jacob (i.e. still living and existing in town, just not being seen). We saw some evidence with him having a group of co workers he's friends with, plus a female co worker interested in him... so possibly we see him regain his walking and go back to his life with the Fire crew and eventually we stop seeing them on air.
2) His mentioning to Jacob that he hopes to win Ashley back signals that perhaps the dark side we saw glimpses of has been hidden and will rear itself if she appears to be moving on with a new guy.
In terms of Ashley, the show seems committed to keeping her character on the show especially since she was shown in the Thanksgiving episode having a quiet day with Jan and Mona as they discuss Black Friday shopping, food, and other day to day matters... so I think delving into her backstory in terms of who her father is would be a good place for the show to go while keeping her as a good friend to Naomi, Shanice, and a good nurse during medical stories.
Perhaps one of the children of the handsome new doctor could be her love interest down the line.

Re: 1978. I'm glad the unedited version of the episode complete with commercials is available. The one that has been posted several years ago had several segments missing. I like Barbara's long hair here. Dr. Steven Farrell didn't last very long I take it since she is re-connecting with Tom (Tom Tammi) by 1979. The actor playing Steven (Phil Peters) was the real-life husband of Lenore Kasdorf (Rita GL).

Oh, how I wish we'd gotten to see Ross deal with his teenage sons. I loved his relationships with Phillip and Sam, but he really deserved to be seen with his own kids (other than the horror that became Dinah). The boys simply disappeared off canvas after either the Nursery Stalker or the affair with Tori.

What I liked about Bloss is that I liked how they grew to be the stable couple- the closest to an Ed and Mo in their prime. Especially after the Tori story when their extra-marital exploits were in the past. I wanted them to SORAS the three kids, along with Dinah and with Phillip's family as Ross's extended family would really be solid core family material.
With that said, I was rooting against Bloss in 1999 as I really liked the Ross/India pairing-- but that just turned out to be a waste of MKA.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's

The return of sitcoms' popularity in the mid-'80s was a real thing, but the crash of the wealth-based nighttime soap genre was resonate and self-induced.

There was an effectively grim finality to the mood of the cliffhangers in the Spring of 1985: Bobby's death, the Moldavian massacre, the return of Val's babies... and they felt as if they could have ended right there (and perhaps they should have, although I would have sorely missed S10 of Dallas, S6 of FC, and Season 9 of Dynasty , and the next five years of KNOTS as they singularly maintained quality).

But, wow, these shows just fell apart post-Spring 1985. They stopped being character dramas after a while, and just started trying to "impress" viewers in some superficial way and to "fake it" somehow.

What a painful, unnecessary slide it was. But once these shows seemed to lose their identities, their sense of self, their momentum into the dung heap couldn't be slowed.
