I'm not familiar with his soap work, but I loved him in Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train. Great movie.

wow, he lived quite a life. Romantic affairs with Ava Gardner, Shelly Winters and Leonard Bernstein? Talk about varying tastes.

Sad to hear. He was in so many memorable movies.

As well as EON and ATWT, he originated the role of Will Vernon on OLTL.

Not to mention typecast again as a cynical gay in Hitch's Rope--both brilliant roles. I heard he was pretty depressed ever since his partner passed away--I hope they're together now.

That's a shame. I thought he'd passed on years ago. I have enjoyed seeing some of his ATWT work again.

I'm honestly a bit surprised. I think he's also fairly well known for being an out gay actor back before it was fashionable (not that it is now--and not that he really came out publicly, he just never hid it, reportedly one reason Jimmy Stewart didn't like him much during Rope). (He's also interviewed a lot in bot the book and movie of Celluloid Closet and has a well worth reading memoir, Include Me Out though I don't remember how much it goes into his soap time...)

I'm trying to be respectful, but was he the one who faced serious allegations involving a young actor on one of the shows he worked on?

This issue often comes up regarding Granger and OLTL. I recently read that the actor involved was Jerry Butler,the porn star who was trying to break into legit acting. He later married Lisa Loring (Cricket ATWT).

According to what I read,the timeframe that Butler supplied indicated that it was in fact Anthony George (Will#3) who was the older actor involved.

Not sure which account is true,but the fact that Granger was quickly replaced has always given credence to the story that he was the offending actor.

I'm ashamed to say that Jerry's work I do happen to be familiar with (I remember he and Lisa on Geraldo, but that's another thread). Then yes, it was Mr. Granger who was interviewed on WoST and he spoke about this. I wish I could remember what was said, as a matter of fact I don't believe I ever listened to the entire interview beyond the teaser.
