re Y&R opening sequence.

Do we know when the first changes were made?

I would guess in 74 to accommodate Kay and Lorie (and Philip?) and the departure of Sally.

Was Pierre included in the original sketches? Peggy?

I guess the next time an update was needed when Snapper and Leslie were recast.

Did Greg#2 ever make it to the opening?

What characters in the 70's never appeared in the opening?

Any reason why the powers that be recreated Victor’s return from the dead in 1999? He already made a much more impactful and shocking return in 1993. Why repeat the same stunt?

While it's popularly referred to as such, Victor didn't die in 1999. The family kept looking for him up to his return, and had plenty of suspicion/hope he is alive since there were tracks leading away from his plane crash (including a call from Ramona saying so). They were losing hope and some assume he had to be dead because how did he survive in the desert for months?

I also disagree that it was a stunt. Victor's "death" (or lack thereof) was instrumental in the Newman Takeover (having provided Brad and Jack the opportunity to succeed unmolested and then solidify their hold over the company while he was gone). It was a legitimate storyline unto its own (potentially spinning off Ramona story) with great sets built, good performances, and a fantastic climax on location, and not to mention gave them the chance for another dramatic entrance (and the classic "I will crush you!" scene).

Thanks! I loved the episode.

I have nothing against Shari Shattuck. To me she’s a decent actress. She just lacked the “allure” that Ashley needs and was probably too young for the role. I also have to wonder why they recast in the first place. They saddled SS’s Ashley with these uninspired, inconsequential stories (Kurt?) - separate from whatever was going on with Jack and Brad… It was obvious that the character needed some rest.

Shari Shattuck is one year younger than ED, so age-wise her casting was fine.

I agree that Bill Bell should have rested Ashley from BE departure until ED return.

There's a second part to this I have somewhere although I don't think Eileen says a lot in it as the focus is on a sitcom actress.

No Y&R clip in this, sadly, but I thought some of you still might enjoy seeing this again from whenever it was last on Youtube.

Honestly I liked Shari as Ashley, her acting in the Dina Return from 1996 was pretty good IMHO, I think it was the uninspired storylines afterwards that didn't let her shine much

Now A Question:

Were there any slaps on The Show This past year? I didn't watch regularly and don't remember any

Shari Shattuck was not a bad Ashley; she just felt too cold for my liking, and she's even the first Ashley I recall watching. And wasn't the role recast because Brenda Epperson decided to leave? Some time passed between Epperson's final episode and Shattuck's debut.

Sandra Nelson was a fantastic Phyllis for the time period she was on the show. Again, she is the first Phyllis I recall watching. Much like the work of Gina Tognoni, I feel like Nelson's work in the role helped ground the character... which it needed. For me, it's Michelle Stafford's work that keeps Phyllis the way she is, and it's hindering the character.

@asafi Sandra Nelson was extremely underrated as Phyllis. She played a lot of the darkness the portrayal later lost. It was unfortunate seeing her just slowly fade away from the canvas.

    • I do actually. Nicole seems like the forgiving type; plus she is a Psychiatrist.  Absolutely agree.
    • Dana has proven to be beyond unhinged from day one.
    • I'm just guessing, but Eva has to be Nicole's daughter. I don't see Nicole forgiving Eva for her betrayal. Unless she winds up being her daughter.
    • I did not recall how contentious the interview turned out to be until I re-read it.  In retrospect, good on both of them for allowing it to be published, it is remarkable to read this type of honesty in a soap magazine. http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/chat85.html
    • Today's show was boring, which means it will score high in the ratings.

    • Correct. And she left Eva alone and vulnerable just like she was 20 plus years ago.
    • Leslie feels betrayed by Eva for choosing Ted and Nicole, with her actions at the party calling her crazy and trying to stop Leslie from exposing Ted.
    • I kinda think that's the point, Leslie isn't logical; she is very unhinged. She's probably mad at Eva turning on her in front of the Duprees. They need each other but I do want to see Eva form a family unit away from Leslie.
    • IDA. I felt this was his best episode and the actor sold it for me especially bc Martin has been so stoic and not very expressive with his emotions. The actor's weakness actually became a strength here bc I felt he really came alive and I bought his rage towards Leslie and later and later vulnerability he exposed to Smitty. He's growing and while I had reservations at first, I think they should keep him. He's done well with this reveal
    • The soapy convention that amused me today was the amount of stuff that soap characters get done on their way to work. I drink a glass of iced coffee, take a handful of pills, read @AbcNbc247 morning summary, and I am out the door.  Marlena got on a full beat of makeup, and her Monday blazer.  Then she visited with Johnny at the Salem Inn, EJ at the mansion, and checked in with Cat, all before reading her emails.  It is just remarkable how much people can do when they never have to go to the bathroom! Marlena's vibe with Cat was weird, considering she hired Cat as an assistant.  She seemed a little suss today. Meanwhile, with all of these new interactions, I want a scene between Chad and Marlena when they discuss blazers.  I think Chad's more unconstructed, knit jackets would suit Marlena (no pun intended).
