The lead up to the scene is through Act Six, so looks like the scene in question happens in Act Seven. The tape schedule for the next episode, 4442, shows Marie/Liz/Neil/Don at Liz's Apartment in the Teaser Act.

So, as you guessed, this confirms it happens in Act Seven of 4441 (5/2/83). We are just missing the scene itself.

I don't know why I had so many random pages from this episode, but at least it helped us tonight!  The parts X'd out did not make it to air, so you get a little more than you would have if you watched the episode.

And, as an extra treat, Neil talks about Noel (spelled the correct way!)  Many on the soap boards like to incorrectly spell it Noelle, but it is Noel.

You're welcome!  And I figured out why I had these random pages, since they match up to the same pages in Bo's debut. I must have asked for the Bo-specific pages in 4442, but was originally accidentally sent those page #s from 4441. So, this is thanks to a long-ago mistake!

And here's the Soap Digest synopsis, which fleshes out what happened at the end of 4441 and the rest of 4442. And the tape schedule and parking clearance for 4442 as well:

Funny you should mention that:

8/31/81-9/4/81: "Mary conceded defeat to Marie for Alex and teased Neil about rekindling old sparks."

At the time of the shooting, Liz & Neil had been on-and-off for nearly three years. Marie & Neil had been together for about six months (minus early flirting and her doing the Florence Nightingale thing when he had pneumonia).

On the whole, I'm glad they didn't pair the spares and have Marie get with Don.

I wonder if that would have happened if Lanna hadn't left.

Thanks for the extra details.

This seems beneath the characters, in some ways, and is the type of writing more mature female characters in degrading ways that reminds me of later daytime stories, but everyone involved is so easy to invest in and there's enough of a history for most of them (even if not together) where it doesn't just seem like dolls being thrown at each other.

Reading the part where Don said he was going to leave Salem makes me wonder why they didn't just have him go ahead and leave (he vanishes around 85 doesn't he?)

They seemed to lose interest in Marie after she and Neil divorced. Pretty much the only thing that happened to her after that was that flirtation with Bo’s PI friend, Howie.

She actually just disappeared like Don as well.

I've said it before, but Gloria Loring must have had one hell of an it factor, since Liz's storylines from 1981-83 are complicated as hell.

One other detail I forgot to mention: At the time of the shooting, Marie & Neil had been married for less than two months.

Yes, spring 1985.

Days already had a wacky couple with Eugene & Calliope, but I wonder if they were considering a more grounded version with Howie & Marie.

They didn't lose interest in Marie, but Lanna Saunders was diagnosed with MS in 1982, and had to stop acting on Days in 1985 when she became too ill to continue. So, they were probably doing their best to keep her in storylines for as long as she was still able to work.

    • Looking at those totals it seems most contract actors are on a 1 or 2 week average guarantee. I assume contracts are still operating on 13 week cycles so you would have to know the particular actors contract starting date to work out their guarantee. The question remains as to what actors listed as contract are actually recurring? Bryton ?
    • Yep, that scene was at the conclusion of the Derek Thurston vs George Packard storyline, when Kay decided neither of them should run Chancellor.  By the time she put Victor in charge, Victor had been on the show for months & months with his Rolls Royce, his ranch, and Newman Enterprises.  SONY released some Y&R "trivia cards" in the late 1980s, and one of the questions was "who brought Victor Newman to Genoa City?" The answer on the back of the card is "Kay Thurston, to run Chancellor Industries", and it's a wrong answer lol.
    • I think someone said it did exist, but I can't remember.
    • The bit with the scarf reminds me of the fabled stuffed animal scene with Rick and Phillip. (That wasn't debunked, was it?)
    • Ohh, interesting. I instantly gravitated towards her in that episode. Of course I'm already hooked and want to know why she was trying to poison that older lady, but then how did the older lady know to switch the mugs so Susan drank her own poison...  but I have too many timelines I'm watching right now haha.  Oh, Bolger is definitely hot. I didn't realize he was on GL haha. I knew him from OLTL and other primetime stuff.
    • This is a effin shame. Eff Trump and eff the bastards that enable him.
    • I 100% agree but I think this is due to how the show is structured. It's a one family show which means there are no people in her age range that could be used as friends or contemporaries of her. The show definitely needs a second main family. I am glad someone finally said this. Especially now that the cast is gelling in their roles, he stands out like a sore thumb. No energy, no chemistry with anybody. He is just there.  I thought that was odd as well! The previous scene would've worked better as a tag for the credits.
    • That's the one and only Carrie Nye (Mrs. Dick Cavett) as Susan Piper, a deadly realtor. I don't want to spoil a lot if you ever want to see those episodes. She returns as another character in 2003. I think Grant has aged well and he always did a good job at being ripped without going too far, but he was never entirely my cup of tea either. I did think John Bolger was hot.
    • Totally agree. KKL looks great! It makes the Widge groveling so bizarre. Brooke needs to leave FC and with $B's/Liam's funding launch a rival fashion house with Hope, Rick, Katie and a secret designer. The best scenario is that Rick has been absent because he's been with very much alive C2, who is revealed on the runway as the secret designer. It'll never happen because B&B is comfortable just focusing on FC and the Forresters Marones v. Logans. But it'd been so much more interesting if the Spencers/Logans united.
