Members carolineg Posted yesterday at 02:34 PM Members Share Posted yesterday at 02:34 PM I swear in 1996 and 1997 80% of Days commercials were the same variation of these John/Marlena/Kristen promos. "Will this be the week Kristen is exposed?" It was never the week lol. I actually completely forgot Franco was a spoiler for Bo/Hope. JER really gave Bo/Hope some bad material.
Members JAS0N47 Posted yesterday at 06:09 PM Members Share Posted yesterday at 06:09 PM I never liked John Aniston saying CaroLYN, since CaroLINE was the love of Victor's life (so you think Victor would know how to pronounce the love of his life's name). But it was never John's fault. No one told him in 1985 to say it CaroLINE. Just like no one today tells people how to correctly pronounce DiMera. I forget which was which, but in the same scene last week I think Amy pronounced it the correct way (DiMAIRa), while her daughter Sophia pronounced it like Lauren Koslow does (DiMEERa), the incorrect way.
Members DRW50
That's funny. At least Kate and Maggie were easy enough to say. Franco is one of those characters who only got interesting not long before he left. You aren't kidding. I do love this promo, which underlines what you said. Of course, this wasn't the end either, although the last few months of the story, with Marlena and Kristen eating snacks and forced to watch Susan and John via CCTV, are funny enough to me where the further drag out doesn't bother me. Please register in order to view this content I didn't mean to dump so many promos in here, but that channel has a few others I haven't posted.
Members carolineg
Take it from me the Caroline/Carolyn thing is real and someone says it to me probably once a week maybe more. I will quickly repeat my name out of habit and I will still be called Carolyn. I just don't know why through all the years someone didn't quietly tell both actors to right the pronunciation and move on like they always said it correctly. Oh, I loved the promos and the story. I laughed because they were all vaguely the same like this time Kristen would get caught. This one you just posted was at least near the end lol.
Members DRW50
The story was very well-paced but I think the humor is what helped with the length. Carrie/Austin/Sami ran as long and dragged (I suppose it also helped that Drake Hogestyn was not Austin Peck). JER tried to replicate the formula later on with various Passions stories being stalled out by campy villainesses and comedy sidekicks (namely Beth and her mother), but I don't think it worked as well (frankly I just found Beth creepy, but that's for a whole other thread). Kristen and Susan were the roles of a lifetime for Eileen and she played every moment to the hilt, but it helps that John and Marlena were also worth rooting for.
Members carolineg
I think both Austin and John were severely dumbed down to try to make it work, although I am not sure how smart Austin was to begin with lol. I think Drake/John sold the dimness better because you could see where he was coming from. He thought he ruined Marlena's family and was trying to move on from her, he and Marlena had a great friendship that he didn't want to ruin, generally thought the best about people, and was probably lying to himself as much as Kristen was lying to him. And while John/Marlena/Kristen/Stefano hit the right amount of pacing (a lot due to Marlena being kidnapped to drag it out), I think Austin/Sami/Carrie lasted too long. Austin's belief that Sami wasn't lying THIS time and that he had to do everything because Will was his son was just weirdly outdated. By the time Sami was exposed a lot of the audience had moved on the Carrie/Mike. I can easily see how it failed on Passions when he was already teetering on the edge on Days near the end of his run. He wasn't going to have the audience backing he had on Days with legacy characters.
