I have been watching some Days from 1984 and I was surprised at how close Marlena/Julie were.  It seems like a friendship that has been lost throughout the years and I am not sure why.  I know Doug/Julie were eventually made to be much older than Marlena/Roman/John and Hope/Bo became their peers, but it seems like a missed oppurtunity now.  It appears SSH and DH get along quite well, so it would be lovely once RC is gone to mine that friendship again especially considering recent circumstances.

I think it's just like what you've said, @carolineg: Julie and Marlena's friendship was downplayed once Doug and Julie were "aged up" and Marlena, Roman and later John became peers with Bo and Hope.  By 1984, it seems, they really wanted Doug and Julie to be second in line after Tom and Alice as the show's matriarch/patriarch, but didn't want the same thing to happen with Roman and Marlena.

Yes.  Julie is styled years older than Marlena and seems so much older, but i think IRL they are maybe 4 years apart?  Marlena does read younger, but at this point we all know they aren't 40, so it would be lovely to rekindle that relationship especially since they both lost the loves of their lives.  I know it will take approximately 10 years to show up onscreen because of tape dates, but it's a nice thought.

ETA-I should probably clarify I don't equate Deidre losing her on screen partner to SSH losing her real life and onscreen partner.

I would agree.  Drake's passing leaves such a huge hole on the canvas.  Because who's the next patriarch?  LOL Josh Taylor's Roman?  Abe?  Steve?  It's a really big assignment for anyone to take on.  I might consider reaching out to Wayne Northrop to see if he's available.  Not to discount Drake for any single second as he's my fave, but that seems the most feasible in my head.

Don't forget Marlena and Maggie were close too, a long time ago. Those three matriarchs could be front and center, maybe start a business together: Julie, Marlena, and Maggie. Despite behind-the-scenes drama, it would be girl power! But I'm not sure the actresses will Maintain their roles much longer, probably exhausted from learning lines and working. They could retire anytime now, but their beautiful legacy will live on forever.

TV Guide listing for the debut

DAYS OF OUR LIVES Macdonald Carey stars as Dr. Thomas Horton, professor of medicine in a New England college town. Also starred: Frances Reid as Horton’s wife, Marie Cheatham as their engaged daughter, John Clarke as their son Mickey, David McLean as attorney Craig Merrit and Charla Doherty as Julie Olsen, a spoiled neighborhood youngster. Today: Julie is caught shoplifting in a department store.

I think it's clear at this point forcing Deidre and Suzanne to work together isn't a thing.  It was painful to watch during the Konstantin story.  I've already called Marlena/Maggie's friendship a loss in my head.  That's why I think it would perfect to re-ignite a Julie/Marlena friendship again.

You know, I think Deidre, Susan, and Suzanne are in for as long as they can be.  All 3 of them seem to really enjoy their characters and working on the show.

That's the most feasible option in my head as well.  No offense to Josh Taylor, but DAYS needs Roman Brady now more than ever, and he's just not that guy.

I say, let JT go (with the option to bring him back later as Chris Kositchek, of course) and beg/plead/cajole Wayne Northrop to return as Roman.  In the meantime, give John Black a real send-off and give Marlena an appropriate amount of time to grieve.  Then, down the road, test a Roman/Marlena reunion, with the two working out their issues as Marlena gradually accepts John's death.

I think it's very reasonable to bring Josh back as Chris and extend an offer to Wayne.  Obviously, Marlena needs to grieve and accept losing the love of her life and I could almost see her being an Alice-like figure.  In other ways, Marlena is just more of a romantic lead and Wayne's Roman would be the only viable option as a partner for her.  Obviously if Jed Allen was still alive I would consider him as well.  Like full circle for Marlena.  I don't want a Maggie/Konstantin placeholder romance for Marlena.

    • Tbf it's not unusual for a family when they are dealing with some bad news that changes a life to use song to give out hope.Especially black families. I personally had to deal with that very thing this weekend. Partly off putting, but at the same time, I did get the point and it gave me a bit of hope in the moment.      MM is definitely acting. But Smitty is just so passive. It could turn into quiet strength at some point, but for now...passive IMO.
    • Am I remembering correctly that the Madison's lived in a Spanish revival-style house? I have a vague recollection of the fireplace looking especially Spanish in style. It is unusual that Montecello had so many architectural styles.  Obviously, that might occur IRL.  But, look at other east coast soaps and there is a definitive style that is throughout (because it was styled by a set decorator) regardless of the income of the occupants.
    • @kalbir MSW was a powerhouse for CBS. Angela Lansbury was a superb actress. In 1985, TV viewers were tiring of the primetime soaps and the like. People wanted storytelling and MSW was great at that and had great guest stars. Storytelling -- an amazing and novel concept. CBS Daytime by 1985 was beating ABC so CBS was on the upswing.
    • I'd say just the opposite - conflict means they will find out and then be at odds. For the limited amount of time people on this show have conflict (if they aren't named Nina or Ric, I guess).
    • Totes mcgoats (aka I agree). But, now the character needs to move forward.  Clyde's exit was 12/11/24.  It is May.  She and Chad have been on one date. I don't think they've slept together. And she was only planning on sticking around for a year.
    • That is one of the best insults I've heard in a long time.  I burst out laughing when Kat called Eva that.  LOL Their scenes, of course, were really good.  Colby and Ambyr have so much chemistry.  The only thing I'd change is Kat saying "you're dead to me."  That's a phrase usually said about someone you care about.  I would've preferred something like "You will never be my sister," or something similar to that.  Nice contrast at the end with both mothers/daughters:  Kat comforting/consoling her mother, and Eva being locked out by her mother.  Yeah, I wasn't a big of fan of the singing either, especially after your daughter's life has been destroyed.  What?  LOL And I also agree with those that thought Dana/Leslie's scenes with the Dupree's didn't feel right since Eva is not a Dupree....unless she is.  But as of right now, she's not.
    • Trisha Mann-Grant, Ambyr Michelle, Sean Freeman are destined for bigger and better things. They need to move on as soon as their initial contracts are done.
    • Daphnée Duplaix and Trisha Mann-Grant on Instagram live, 5/5/2025 just concluded, saved here https://www.instagram.com/p/DJSsYb7PDv8/
    • I really need to see Anita in a scene that isn't with a family member. In fact, I would have preferred that she would have gotten rid of the mob and had a one on one with Leslie to lay down the law with her.  I'm going to say it, Mike Manning has been completely lifeless on this show. Other than people's superficial fondness for him, I don't get what they see in him as an actor. I never saw him on DAYS though. The show had another really strange cut right before the opening credits where it looked like they almost cut off Nicole mid-sentence.  Kat/Eva are carrying this show on their backs. Lock them in for lifetime contracts, I beg.
    • There's a 1980 scene of Victor and Katherine in the Chancellor Estate living room where they went over a contract that would put Victor in charge of Chancellor Industries, but it was rewritten that Katherine brought Victor to Genoa City so he could run Chancellor Industries.
