Today is the 55th anniversary of my all time favorite show As the World Turns!

I miss it but I am glad for the memories here and on You Tube.

Did any one see the article in CBS~SID featuring Kelly Hensley and Chris Goutman on the show winning the WGA award.

Made me sick! Goutman is so full of it!

Is that the same interview where he claimed he had material for Lisa in the finale but wasn't even able to put it on deleted scenes?

I don't buy any of that. The deleted scenes the show put up all involved younger characters.

Yes.

He was asked about Noelle Beck offering to step aside so that Martha Byrne could come back and give the Holden and Lily fans their happy ending.

Apparently that was true and he wouldn't do it.

I am a Martha fan who never cared for Noelle's portrayal of Lily but that makes me feel better toward her!

Because he is an ass hole!!

Sigh...to think it could still be on the air. With Chris Goutman running the show...ATWT didnt stand a chance of making it.

That's Chris Durham. He was one of the Matt McCandlesses on Capitol, and he was the first Silas Whitman (the smarmy congressman Molly was having an affair with) that sabotaged her car when Jack showed up in NY after he took off after Brad's death.

I don't remember any significant story when he played Glenn's brother.

And thanks for posting that interview with Ben. Sigh...that cover was the first time I was really aware of soap mags. I was amazed to see Hal and Barbara on the cover. Little did I know ATWT barely got any soap coverage.

I'd like to know about why Lisa/Bob/Kim weren't in any cut scenes either. That's why I don't buy it. How sad if Goutman felt that Craig learning "forgiveness" from Lily, or Parker/Faith as the new Carly/Jack (why do they have to be the new anyone? How stupid), were more important than the legends.

Thank you for info on the actor who played Glenn's brother. I remember reading that John Conboy bragged he would have Durham shirtless for an entire summer.

Making my way through the 1989 episodes, he seemed to be around for at least 3-4 months. He got involved with Shannon after his brother's death, and then through her discovery that she was pregnant with Glenn's child. Other than some lovely melancholic performances from Margaret Reed (I think this was her best talent - it's too bad the show only made her angry and bitter when she returned), this seems like kind of a pointless story, as Duncan/Shannon had already been separated for so long by this point that you start to wonder why they would ever get back together at all. This was also when they were making Duncan's castle into the Earl Mitchell Center.

You said you were a Kirk/Iva fan, right? I still wonder sometimes why the show gave up on that, although I did like Kirk/Ellie. There's this heartbreaking little moment at the latter's wedding where Iva flashes back to dancing with Kirk. I miss that type of thing on soaps, that poignancy.

I flove the pose...lol

Hmmm...Jon, Brian and Bill..all with chest hair on one soap....I personally love chest hair on a man. Rex Smith also had chest hair...I forget who else did too...

As for Kirk and Iva....I thought they were so good together. I hated Kirk with Ellie and Samantha...talk about boring couples.

    • It really is ridiculous how happy episodes from 40 years ago make me. God, MKA is so young!
    • Holy sh.it. THAT was a damn soap opera. I’m at a loss for words for how good that was.

    • Same here.  Anyone who voluntarily left Margo's penthouse set (except to go overseas or to Heaven) was immediately on my blacklist.  lol.

    • The penthouse was my favorite set... and it changed hands from Margo to Draper/April to Miles/Nicole then to just Miles... before he opted to give that beautiful place for that drab house with the even more drab Beth.  That was a jump the shark moment for me LOL
    • The storyline April and Draper are involved in during the summer/autumn of 1979 seems fairly "benign" but soon turns very serious.  April has a VERY intrusive, wealthy mother (Margo Huntington Dorn).  Margo knows that April and Draper (who've recently had a miscarriage and are theoretically never going to be able to conceive another baby) want to buy a house.  Margo hoodwinks them into buying a house they can't afford.  The house is listed at $100,000 (about $400,000 in today's dollars).  Margo pays the first $35,000 and leads Draper to believe the asking price of the house is $65,000 instead of $100,000.  If Draper finds out his meddling mother-in-law paid 1/3 of the cost of the home and tricked him, he'll be mad as hell.   Meanwhile, Draper has received a job offer from a prestigious New York law firm.  Margo pulls some strings and has the senior partner in the firm rescind the offer, to keep April in Monticello.  If Draper finds out about THAT, he'll be even angrier with Margo than he will be about the house trickery.  All of that is "bubbling under the surface" in the fall of 1979 but will be the next major story, as everything begins to spiral out of control.   Yep, you've got the Karrs and their very basic middle-class house, the Victorian-themed place where Miles and Nicole live, April and Draper's old craftsman house with the exposed beams, the Madisons & their Mission revival house, and Margo with her 1970s-chic penthouse.  Each of the sets is completely different.  And their budget was like zero, lol.
    • It felt weird and out of place.  I get it. While I agree with those on here that say he's gotten better, it's still really bad. I'm not seeing the "good" acting some see...but I'll give him a B for being better than when he first started. There's potential. I'll leave it at that.
    • It's like watching paint dry at a slow-ass pace. It's bad acting. Entirely. Excellent? With Claybon? Never. Ever.
