Great scenes.

I loved the old school soapy look of Joyce.

Being Greek myself I guess that Lisa knew Nick was Greek because of his last name's poulos ending. 90% of our names (mine included) have this ending. Many people who moved to the US changed their names and removed it.

I love watching different eras of ATWT. I am addicted to the Marland years, but everything I have seen from the late 70s to the early 90s is great soap.

Being Greek as well, that's what I thought too. I guess the line delivery from both actors was just awkward (yes, even Eileen Fulton can falter!) because it almost sounded accusatory, like there would be reasons to hide it but he was standing strong laugh.png The mood and tone was so somber that the humor was probably lost.

Fabulous 70s ATWT!!

I'm amazed at how darkly lit the show is at this point (in most clips I've seen of this era, and the episode from the DVD set). Just a few years earlier, we have that very brief scene with Kim and Jennifer, and it's lit up like The Price is Right.

Also, the music at the very beginning. That's the orchestral version of the Hughes family theme, isn't it? The organ version is featured in many of the black-and-white eps online.

The show is so darkly lit, and as I said, cheap looking. Also, as someone up thread said, so somber. Was ATWT always that way? Lisa is not even really flirting with an available man in her age range????I can really see why the show dropped out of number 1 down to I think number 7 before and during the Dobsons first run. GH and AMC, brightly lit and with such energy must have made ATWT really look even creakier. As I said, its too bad that they didnt realize it wasnt Nancy and Chris but everything else about the show.

Oh I loved those old clips on the previous page! I didn't find that the show looked cheap although the makeup was pretty horrible. I've noticed that was the case until the mid-80s for ATWT. On the DVDs, some of the makeup for the Stewart girls is positively shocking. Almost always its a blonde actress that gets horrible makeup I noticed. I'd love to see more from this era. I know very little about ATWT in the 70s, but everything I've seen looks interesting.

I never understood that storyline (as I quit watching the show at the time,...the end of Doug Marland's run was not that great and he seemed to get farther and farther away from the Hughes and relying on undiscovered relatives, whose the baby and of course, the hunk in tight jeans with the virgin storylines) Who the freak were those two?

They were Royce and Neal, Lucinda's half-siblings. I'm not sure she knew of their existence for most of their lives. They began working for her, pretending they didn't know each other. They were planning to con her, I think. Neal fell in love with Scott, Royce with Emily. Neal was murdered, with Scott the prime suspect (he fled town). Royce, who had DID because of his mother's abuse, had killed her. Royce dumped Emily at the altar. Royce and Lucinda made amends and he sort of became close to their other long-lost sibling, Samantha, before he left town.

I'm glad you're on - I'm going to try to put up a 1969 ATWT article later.

I miss Bob and Kim. Love the look on his face when Allison was dancing..what the hell was that all about? Kim's manhandling and face off with Babs was great. Kim and Hays make such a good dynamic kick ass matriach. Why was Babs acting so over the top and nutty in this? With that scenery chewing and sneering she reminds me of Regina in Once Upon a Time.

Hate Carly and Jack. So boring their endless repetition..they should have just done a Bob and Lisa on them and split them up, had them in each other's lives. The PG soaps under MADD just was an endless loop of Carly/Jack, Lily/Holden, Josh/Reva, Danny/Michele. No wonder ratings dropped..you could tune in 5 years later and see the same thing.

Allison had just returned, so she was in "lame ass angry teenager" mode. Emily was making waves about telling Alison that she was biologically her daughter (not her sister) around this time, so that might have been the cause.

    • Which could make sense , except that we have seen Mariah function for years w/o any real residue pain from her upbringing. Josh decides to randomly make it a thing, when a good writer might foreshadow that for months. It's not like he's just arrived at the show. He's been there for years . Everything seems to be thought out only a few weeks ahead. It's like Phyllis all freaky from being kidnapped when she has done a million other things that didn't seem to bother her at all.
    • Unrelated, sort of, but he looks absolutely nothing like Amanda Setton or Dominic Zamprogna so it's kind of hilarious they decided to make Gio their kid.  It's very clear this was not the original origin story for Gio when they cast him. He is a very handsome guy though.
    • I tend to agree, although going back to OLTL, Frank has so often cast guys who are meant to be attractive yet come across as cold and dead, I'm surprised he managed to get one who has a bit of a pulse.
    • For all I care, the boy can parade around in a g-string.  It won't make this show suck any less.
    • AMC was about a decade later so things may have changed by then, although maybe they never approached her anyway. She joined Santa Barbara in 1985, when they didn't seem interested in bringing back Hope. SB ended in late 1992, so JFP could have asked her back, but I doubt she did. For as much as JFP clearly had some use for Rick Hearst given that she hired him on GH and kept him around as often as she could, I don't think she ever used Alan-Michael well. I can't see Elvera as Delia, but she could have worked well as Faith - she had a glimpse of a strong personality alongside warmth, which only one Faith ever managed (Catherine Hicks).
    • IIRC, FC reruns aired for awhile on Lifetime, way before the network became the Women in Peril Channel, lol.
    • PAM!! YES!!! You have jogged my memory. She worked at Cedars. She's mentioned in a write-up of Tim's history in the show. It says she was a nurse, but I seem to remember she was a secretary at Cedars, working for either Ed or Sarah. (It's almost 50 years ago, so I definitely could be wrong). I'm certain she was an unwed mother. I recall reading an interview with the actress, Maureen Silliman (I looked it up, that's her correct name, LOL). She started on the show just before the Dobsons started writing it. She was shocked to get a script that said her character had been pregnant since she hit town. I remember a scene where she told Tim she was going to leave SF for a better job for her daughter's sake (really, I think she was upset he was serious about Rita). I don't remember them getting married and leaving town, but according to "Who's Who in Springfield" that's how the characters were written out. Mattson did All My Children for several years, so she might have been persuadable. Here's an interesting factoid I recently learned on these message boards: Elvera Roussel was in the running to play Delia on RH when the show first hit the air. How wild is it that Mattson played Delia for a while? (Though from what I saw of her performance, she was miscast). It's hard to know if Roussel would have been a good Delia. You'd think she would have been better suited to playing Faith Coleridge, but who knows? She didn't get to show a whole lot of range as Hope.
    • If I were to do an EON reboot, I think I would start at the beginning, with Mike Karr leaving the police force in order to begin a new career as an attorney, and dealing with his wife, Sara's, crooked family.
    • I don't know if it was the writing or performance but I felt like we finally got to see the real Ted. Especially the way he talked to Martin when confronted, felt like a completely different person. He felt darker and like a total liar who was mad he got caught. I expected him to be remorseful and want to apologize to each and every family member who he came into contact with but he seemed like he didn't care. It completely changed how I view him and it makes me wonder if this is the direction they're going to take Ted in with the recast.
