AMC: "Grossly over-budget"

Exactly! Not mentioning any names but I wish some of these "journalists" would remember a small yet crucial fact: All because you report on the industry DOES NOT MAKE YOU A PART OF THE INDUSTRY, so sit down! All because [a certain writer whose name I also won't mention] makes you feel as if you are... you ain't!

I think people are angry because Jamey was stating something that is probably true. Whether you like him or not the man has excellent sources at ABC. He was the person who broke the AMC move to LA a week before it was announced to the cast. If he says that AMC is grossly budget I pretty much believe him based on his track record.

If I may - in my experience, the 99-cent budget special Marshall McLuhans who prowl the board espousing a scorched-earth theory about the "oh-so-necessary" destruction and regeneration of all soaps are either:

a) Profoundly insecure windbags who would die if anyone knew they were a soap opera fan posting on Soap Opera Network, and so spend the lion's share of their time posting about anything but,

or

B) Butt-hurt fanboys or fangirls whose favorites have left their favorite show in question. If they ain't happy, can't nobody be happy!

I do think soaps are on a path to self-destruction, but it won't be because Marlena got pink-slipped or because Todd and Blair broke up or because Kendall breaks up with Zach or because Reid dies or because Evangeline didn't win John or Todd. It goes to issues much bigger than that. These shows and their rich histories could be saved, but likely will not because they will not be given the proper care. When people inject their personal bullshit into suggesting the eradication of the genre, it annoys me. It's generally either a way to elevate oneself and belittle others, or an overinvested fan's temper tantrum with a pretentious disguise, and I don't like it.

As for AMC and OLTL? I actually am enjoying some of AMC. And I think OLTL is about 95% [!@#$%^&*] lately. It's pretty unwatchable. But has OLTL been cheated out of dollars to prop AMC and GH? Yes, that's been going on for years. And no matter what creative shape OLTL is in, I don't like it and never have liked it. It's plain simple bullshit, when if the situation were reversed, OLTL would not have been moved to LA and given a red carpet promotional treatment - I will bet my life it would have been cancelled. I would feel that way whether OLTL was good or bad, whether it had gays, lesbians, Hillary B. Smith, Michael Malone, Ron Carlivati or Dena Higley. OLTL has always been and will always be treated unfairly behind the scenes.

I think Goutman started out strong on ATWT but tanked with the 2/3 production model and just lacked any real focus. He might actually be better than JHC but there are far better out there. I've never really understood why ABC didn't raid the Sony/Bell/CBS crew and try at landing someone like DS or ES. On the writing front, I get why they passed on Kay Adlen but AMC has needed a strong EP for a long time.

All this confirms is what we've been saying for months years. AMC has something that OLTL does not, and whatever that something is, it's enabled AMC to win higher favor than OLTL in the eyes of the network for decades. I can't get behind this notion that ABCD has some kind of personal vendetta against OLTL, thus they treat it like the redheaded stepchild. What could the network possibly gain from treating OLTL unfairly? It's not rational. Futility rests in trying to say that OLTL is up to AMC's level in terms of name recognition or brand recognition or just plain recognition. Which I know someone's going to say that recognition means nothing. Well, with AMC given a fresh new start and OLTL given AMC's hand-me-downs, obviously it does.

1. GH

2. AMC

3. OLTL

That's the way it is, that's the way it's been for like 25 years, and that's the way it'll be until they're nothing but a memory.

Fresh new start? More like last ditch survival tactic, AMC would've been cancelled had it not been moved to LA. Errol said it himself in this thread, did he not? OLTL is still in NYC, because they obviously had/have their funds in check. This has nothing to do with the network favoring one soap over another.

In all actuality, OLTL had more to lose by moving the show to LA than AMC did.
