Members DeeeDee
HAD. Canary is gone & she barely if ever interacts with Lucci now. The majority of her run is with people who look closer to her age.
Members Cheap21
and theres also Bobbie Eakes, Vincent Irrizary. She acts quite a bit with the late 40s/50 crowd. The only ones this year that she's had significant amount of scenes with closer to her real age are Ricky Paull, Rebecca Budig and Crishell (who's actally 10 years younger). Jamie Luner is in a sweet spot bc she has that look that she can play younger or older depending on the role and writing. Her look ad acting ability gives her quite a bit of range and flexibility to the point that it works and doesnt come across as too distracting
Members All My Shadows
I think it's hard to compare CBS and ABC in respective to actors/actresses' ages. CBS's characters are written older than ABC's. I can't wrap my head around the fact that Minshew is several months older than Marie Wilson simply because their characters (up until last year or so, at least) are nothing like contemporaries at all. Members DRW50
I guess that's probably another reason they are phasing most of those actors out. As for Noah I think he's staying away so they can keep his truly pathetic parents in a younger bracket. Almost as soon as they aged Noah they seemed to regret it. It's easier to write a story about birdbrain Sharon swooning over a sicko and surfer dude Nick pouting and yawning over his love life if their only children are offcamera or hidden behind huge baby strollers. Members Cheap21
which doesnt seem to make much sense when it feels as if they kinda aged those two when they put Nick with Phyllis. I dont know how the hell Adam, Sharon, Nick and Phyllis ended up in the same age bracket as they are all portrayed in similar age ranges. Its like the Billy, JT, Victoria stuff. What makes that even worse is that Victoria is supposed to be older than Nick. Y&R is the worse these days when it comes to seperation of age ranges as they've screwed it all to hell with their choices in recasts and how they fit characters in other stories. I really dont think they care. All this talk about Maura being too young to act against Bergman, Braedon and Scott, but what makes anyone assume they will be her primary group. I wouldnt be surprised if Diane comes back to hook up with Nick and/or find out she's Sharon's slightly older half sister
Members DeeeDee
Yep. Between CBS desperate desire to get the Young White Viewers & Jack Smith/LML/Maria ruining almost every vet beyond redemption it's no wonder why Y&R is soap poaching so much. Definitely. The biggest problems are that Sharon Case is way too old to be an ingenue (the main one at that), she's progressed too much as a character to carry a Nick/Sharon repairing & TPTB know Morrow can NOT carry the show. Members DeeeDee
Agendas. SO many agendas. Again. Agendas. TPTB have destroyed Victoria. The character is the character in name only. They don't care. That's why Jill is now a Fenmore, Paul & Nina are dating & Victoria is Billy's newest mattress. She totally will. Nick will be too busy "rescuing" Sharon from Adam & Skye. Members All My Shadows
It's because SORAS is the devil and it should have gone extinct decades ago. I don't get why they thought this was a good idea or necessary. This is a medium where a single day can be spread over two weeks, yet ten years can go by in one month. Members P.J.
I don't think it's as much "Maura's too young to act opposite older actors"---she's done that her entire career. And God knows Eric Braeden is no Larry Bryggman. I think it's going to be hard to swallow Maura having "Diane's" past. Diane should be Paul's age. Victor's going to look like a schoolyard pervert next to her. Maura fans with no Y&R past might not follow her---but I think it's entirely possible ATWT fans who are ALREADY lapsed Y&R fans might. God knows I'm trying to wrap my head around it.
Members DRW50
I don't think an age difference will be a problem, as fans are used to that on Y&R (on ATWT, they never tried to act like Carly had the hots for John, whereas all women, young and old, that Victor has an eye for will swoon on cue). But it's going to be tough to generate sparks on today's Y&R, which is about as asexual and dead as you can get.
Members Adam
Anyways..... more stunt casting courtesy of Maria and Co.... I love Maura, but this is so wrong for her.... incredibly wrong for her. As other's have said.... why not go back to Alex Donnely... not that I wouldn't blame her if she told them to go f*ck themselves considering she's been passed over before. Whatever. Members DeeeDee
Exactly. And the saddest thing is that Maura is talented enough to become popular as a new character but Maria is way too lazy to invest in her beyond the press. She'd rather make her an established character with a ton of history & connections that's ill suited to her so she can blame Maura (which she will) when viewer reception is lukewarm (at best). Genoa City tends to bring out weird aspects of actors from other shows. For instance Lesli Kay thrived but Kelley Hensley looked lost & out of place. Members Soapsuds
Kelley Hensley is a weak actress. She does bitchy good but everything else she is mediocre. Lesli Kay and Maura can act circles around here.
Members P.J.
Oh...I was just rattling my brain for when KMH was on Y&R, but she did a small crossover with the Amber/Ali drugs/porn story, didn't she? I think it's an apples and oranges situation. KMH was playing Em, adjusting to a weird situation on the fly. LK wasn't thrown into a completely new environment for a day for a stunt. I have no doubt Maura will be fine acting-wise. I'm just leery of her being blamed for lousy writing and then shelved in six months. From what I've read, most Y&R peeps loved Haiduk, and look where she is. Diane doesn't have any family, save her child with Jack, and few connections on the Y&R canvas. I couldn't even tell you a friend she had on the show, other than (arguably) Paul. If TIIC try and establish a new family around her, people will hate it. If they don't Diane's stuck on an island and easily disposed of.
Members DeeeDee
Yeah KMH looked out of place (though it's possible she could have adjusted over time). Some actors just have the Y&R look/feel (like Lesli Kay) it was a shame Maria didn't keep her cause she really had chemistry with everyone & would've made a great post Giggly Heffa/pre-SharonRedux relationship for Nick. Diane's actually connected to almost EVERYONE (especially the vets). In addition to Kyle there's Victor, Jack, Nikki, Ashley, Paul, Lauren, Neil, Michael, Nick, Victoria, Sharon, Cricket, Jill, Katherine & Giggly Heffa though given Maura's age Y&R probably won't play her Diane too much with Victor, Nikki & Ashley.
