I thought this was seriously a April Fools joke until I looked at the calendar and realized it was August.

I wonder in the near future we'll be hearing news of Terri Colombino joining Y&R as a back from the dead Cassie Newman. I mean, this is MARIA we're talking about.

All we need now is for Hunt Block to take over the role of Jack Abbott, and it's the wettest of dreams for Hogan Sheffer.

As far as the "Maura is too young for her castmates" theory, remember some of her past husbands on ATWT. Ben Hendrickson (Hal) and Larry Bryggman (John) were WAY older than Maura, but she had a great rapport with both.

I'm trying to remember if Sharon Case was still on ATWT when Maura was on. She played Debbie Simon. I hope B&B ships Felicia over to Genoa City for a visit. Lesli Kay and Maura West were great as conniving cousins on ATWT.

Lastly, I heard that Terri Colombino was supposed to be the one coming over from Oakdale. Was that just a rumor, or will she be the second Mrs. Jack Snyder to come to town?

I know she has a lot of history (watched the Alex Donnolly years, not the Susan Walter ones). I'm just used to ATWT, which would rather forget and bury shared history (and act like Katie wasn't in town while Brad was married to Carly and exposing Parker's paternity for example) than acknowledge it.

Well you will really like Maria's Y&R that's completely squandered stories like Phillip being back from the dead to absolve CANE while barely interacting with his Mother/Wife/Son/Grandmother & Patty's return as a dumpster diving psycho for hire.

Case was already on Y&R by the time Maura started at ATWT.

Hogan loves to rewrite and trash history for the hell of it, so I will be surprised if he doesn't do the same here. He might even try to say Diane and Chompers had a torrid love affair.

You can totally age a character--good example was Pat Bruder as Ellen on ATWT or John Amos on Good Times. Also, Maura isn't looking so young anymore after baby number 5 or whatever it is. She can pass for 40's, easily, and even older with correct make up.

Thank you--so sick of everyone acting as if Maura actually looks 35! I'm a 34 year old man and don't look anywhere near as old. The same can be said for many of my female friends who are the same age. I get liking Maur but being in denile regarding her weathered look is silly.

I have to wonder if they did this casting all for the sake of hearing Maura yell JACK on yet another show. While watching, so many fans will think MP long before PB. I do agree that they will do great work. Also, Hogan did some good writing for Maura back on ATWT so he may do the same for Y&R. This may be a very good choice.

Yep. Maura uses botox, but the wrinkles from her excess sun exposure cannot be hidden and they make her look much older.

ITA. Hogan was the last ATWT headwriter to get Carly. He fed on her ambition and yet kept her vulnerability. He gave into those CarJack obsessive fans and put her back with Jack, but Hogan refused to her career ambition die just so she could worship on the altar of Jack 24/7 like every headwriter since. As a character, Carly never recovered after he left. If Hogan writes half as well for Maura on Y&R, she will be in good shape as Diane.

As an actress, Eden Riegel can't even lick the bottom of Maura's shoes. Eden wasn't any good on AMC. I'll never understand the fuss about her as an actress. It must be because she played Erica's daughter and a gay character. It was the same with the horrific Alisha Minshew who also can't act for her life. Any hype about Eden Riegel joining Y&R was feeding off the bad judgment and delusion of her fans.

In contrast, Maura is a very good actor. It was the same when Peter Bergmann was recast as Jack which was a far more iconic character than Diane Jenkins. It was shocking seeing Peter replacing Terry. Peter did take some of Terry's take on Jack like the always eating. However, Peter then used his own talent to interpret Jack and made the character his own.

Maura will be the most talented actress to play Diane and the best actress on Y&R, it won't take much for her make the role her own in a short period of time. Unlike less talented actors, she will be able to give Y&R sub-standard writing subtext and make her scenes with Jack work.

    • Agree to disagree. Like first, love second. OH, agree, agree, agree! Legendary Featherstone, you're not dressing this one well at all. Petite woman with ample bosom, wrong clothes = awful  matronly looking ugh. I'm sorry but I felt hit over the head with everything each of them thought & felt for about 6 more days than I felt I had signed on for.  I don't know you well enough to know if you will know when I'm teasing, so I've just warned you that I am when I say, I hate for you that you haven't actually met Danielle before. LOL. To me it was just a natural take.  I have no problem going back & forth between those two focal sites. But, I am certainly aware that early on I had an expectation of being really into their having 27 sets & that has definitely not been the realization. And, yes, for now, Frank is still heads above any & all others with us & sets IMO.  Huh? Guza gone. I have it in my head that he was only willing to come out of retirement (and presumed mourning) for a "certain amount of time" to help get this new creature launched, but had no desire to stay & so was one of the "over-staffed intentionally" that we were told about. Of course there's been no official word on the circumstances of his leaving.  But, you might mean go with Guza as in a style, if so, ignore the last para.

    • I'm so pleased we have such fan engagement about Dani. Reminds me of some other soap characters. I think it's because they are "polarizers" which is a word I may have just made up. They are polarizing on their shows to other characters & to story & they are polarizing in the audience as fans seem to have extreme reactions to them, love & hate, not middling neutrality, ya know? Well, it's a theory.  To me the human being you seek has been amply shown especially to two people & both more or less recently. Her sister bond with Nicole, whoa, has knocked me back & blown me away. And, with Chelsea, over her budding sexual identity and awareness. She gathered instantly that something was up with that daughter & was laser focused on her for several scenes. Then, for a third, she & Pamela have finally, also recently, been so real & genuine & authentic.
    • Thanks, Paul, I did not know about his interest in the comedic elements or that he was one of our many people who came from the network! I have always liked Marlena de la Croix's writing, which is not to say I 100% agree with her. She's been a member of my FB soap group for a good long time & she actually posts, which I love. Recently I posted about an e-copy of Robert LaGuardia's SOAP WORLD that is free to borrow like a library e-book but on the Internet Archive site & I posted that at the time of their publications, all of his soap opera books were the gold standard.  She immediately posted about "Bob" who was her close friend & how much she still misses him to this day & that he loved to talk soaps & was also a nice guy, etc. which I was over the moon to have her share about the author & his time etc. like that!!!
    • Just more RTD ego trips, seemingly his main reason for coming back.
    • Thanks @Paul Raven  That's a lovely writeup. Do fans feel it was warranted?
    • So I was reminded that we're now meant to be celebrating PRIDE by this amazing post:

I really wonder why they chose to write this whole ‘John is getting better’ part of the storyline, especially since we all knew what was really going to happen. And I hope we find out the answer someday. But as tough and as tearjerking as today was, it was also really beautiful. And the acting, even though a lot of it if not all of it was real, was spectacular. The flashbacks were beautiful too. I honestly can’t even describe how much I enjoyed today.  Having so many of John and Marlena’s scenes be focused on the two of them and their love story was the right decision. It was a fitting end to John and Marlena. And I’m also glad that John and Steve got to have one last goodbye after everything that happened. As for Bo and Hope and their family, I did think that some parts were a little unnecessary but I really enjoyed Bo’s dream and his reunion with Zack. The acting playing Zack actually did a pretty good job too. Everybody encouraging Bo to fight was really the right decision in this storyline as well.  As for the final minutes of today, be prepared. I actually have tears running down my cheeks as I write this.
