Proper Manors

Not since Peyton Place has there been a fictional town with this much drama. But when "Proper Manors,"hits the MyTV airwaves in September, creator/director Pietro D'Alessio hopes his daytime soap will have the same drawing power -- and staying power -- as its successful serialized New Hampshire-based predecessor.D'Alessio's storyline promises to take all kinds of soap operatic twists and turns as it winds its way through a small New England town -- Proper Manors -- and the spirited teenagers who live there with their complicated and intertwined families.

It will launch Sept. 14, the same week "As the World Turns"airs its final episode after 54 years, filling a void for CBS soap fans, who watched another longtime favorite, "Guiding Light,"go dark last year.

It's an ambitious project that should put New Hampshire on the map, MyTV Development Executive Christopher Murphy said.

"This is totally unique. No one else in New England has the resources we have to distribute original New England content to every single home in the Boston-designated market area,"Murphy said.

I'm curious, I'll be checking this out when it airs. It's been so long since a new daytime soap launched, even if this will only be available for one particular region so far.

I assume they're using the UK soap production model?

I was wondering that to...Is it just airing in NEw Hampshire??? Or will it be nationwide? Sounds interesting.

Someone in that area has GOT to upload this to the Tube if it's just a local thing. This could be alot of fun.

So... What sort of production values is this thing going to have? unsure.gif

I think this is really good news...I know that people say that soap operas are dying/dead, but I almost disagree...

I mean sure, we have 6 (soon to be five) network soaps on the air, when there used to be up to 14...But I think, like with everything, the genre is just changing.

I mean we have this soap in production, which is (supposed) to be on MyTv, and even though he says there are distrubution changes, his interview alluded that other CABLE networks are interested in the show.

And also, you have the new soap "Hacienda Heights" which is supposed to be a five day a week soap that is (or so I last heard), being shopped to cable networks, as well as possible syndication.

And MTV is working on a new venture into the soap opera genre with "Pedro and Mario", which will hopefully undergo a name change...

And even Radio Disney is revitalizing the radio-drama serial with their upcoming show...

So, these shows, whether they succeed or fail, are opening doors for the soap opera genre that it has never been through, such as Cable and syndication, and revisiting the old-faithful Radio.

And of course you have the ever popular online-soap opera as well.

I'm sure there were Radio-Soap-Opera fans who thought it was the "end" once soaps made the move to television, and their were probably people who didn't want to WATCH their soaps...

So I think there is definitely hope for the genre, but we all have to accept that maybe it wont be on the big 3 networks.

^^ The trailer doesn't tell us too much about the show, since we cant hear dialogue..

but it looks like it has decent production value, and I could see a couple of potential vixens in the mix there...I hope the show happens.
