That is always my kneejerk "Favorite Episode" reaction based solely on the work of Ja'Net DuBois and Chip Fields who are doing straight up Chitlin' Circuit/black soap opera at its FINEST, love those scenes.

April 26, 201015 yr Member Question. What IS that lyric in the theme song? I've always stood behind "Standin' in a chow line." But "Hangin' in and jivin'" is getting more convincing by the day.

The lyricists of the song, Alan and Marilyn Bergman have stated that it is "Hangin' in and jivin'" http://newyork.timeout.com/articles/music/2662/backstage-with-alan-and-marilyn-bergman Edited April 26, 201015 yr by ReddFoxx
April 26, 201015 yr Member I bought the season 1 DVD. It came with lyrics and they have standin in a chow line listed.
April 26, 201015 yr Member Yeah, why is there such confusion, I've even heard Bern Nadette say "chow line". I just put the speaker up to my ear and though the singer has not the best annuncigation I'm going to go with "hangin' in and jivin'" too. But if the song writers say that's it, I guess there's really no question.

April 26, 201015 yr Member OMG. Another favorite is when Michael joined a gang, and tried to hide the jacket. He ended putting it in the oven, and Florida needed to use the oven. Later in the episode after they found out he was in a gang Michael went to go confront the gang and tell them he was out, and then Florida showed up...... Edited April 26, 201015 yr by Eric83

April 26, 201015 yr Member One episode I can't stand (ETA: ok ok, upon further review of the clip, maybe I do like it after all LOL) is the one where Florida gets a job as a bus driver and one of her passengers is a deaf kid. I do love the drama between Flo and his mother, but I can't not laugh hysterically at the scene where he's walking backwards into the elevator shaft and everyone is screaming at him to stop but NO ONE actually runs to try to physically stop him. The mother was hilarious before she went all bitch-mode, though. "Them stairs is MURDER on my support hose!" Oh wait, found it: This is classic soap opera, man. It doesn't get much better than that. Gotta love the audience reaction to Larry saying he's gonna go get on the elevator. And wow, I NEVER noticed that Larry's mother and Savannah were the same actress!
