It's still not that big of an opening especially in comparison to the Maguire Spiderman movies.

I want to see this, but still think a reboot was unnecessary

I've never been a fan of the comic book series movies...ie Spider Man...Batman etc.....I havent even seen the Incredible Hulk ones......for some reason they have never interested me but I might pick this up when it comes out on dvd during the fall.

There are too many superhero movies. I can't remember how many there were when the Spiderman movies began but it didn't seem like this many. I think a reboot was a mistake this soon, but considering that there is fatigue and Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone aren't box office, I think it did OK.

How was Sally Field in the movie? When I watched a clip of her on Today it looked like the same Sally performance as always.

She was fantastic. One of the best parts of the film.

I wish people would get over the whole its too soon for a reboot. I felt the same way when it was first announced but the writers, producer, director and cast made this work and really impressed with the final product. It being a reboot, 5 years after the last really shouldnt take away from what is truly an amazing film.

The opening weekend for SM1 was 114M. ASM did comparable to it and its numbers are pretty good for a new series. By comparison, it did just as good, if not better than most of the other Marvel releases in the last 3 years with the exception of The Avengers and Iron Man 2

well theres a point to the Marvel ones since by and large they all tie into the same universe and were meant to be backstory for the Avengers. During the last SM trilogy, you had the 3 X-men films, Batman Begins and TDK, Superman Returns, Fantastic Four and Rise of the Silver Surfer, Hulk, Elektra, Daredevil, Ghostrider, Punisher and Catwoman

I saw it today and I loved it!!! I too think it's a lot better than Raimi's Spiderman triology. I liked the chemistry between AG/ES and thought they were better than Tobey/Kirsten. AG does vulnerability really well. I loved how ES looked - the bangs, the knee high socks, the boots. She looked really hot. wub.png I liked Gwen/Peter's first kiss, how he spun her over. LOL

The special effects in the trailers worried me but I thought it was great in the film. I thought it looked more "real world" than Raimi's triology. I was happy with James Horner's score.

In the scene after the credits, who was in the room in Dr. Connors?

How I rank the Spiderman franchise:

1. The Amazing Spiderman

2. Spiderman 2

3. Spiderman

4. Spiderman 3

Ticket prices are up by a considerable percentage since 10 years ago. Comparing them side by side in cold numbers would be inaccurate. Blockbuster films nowadays are much more likely to gross upwards of 1 billion dollars since the days of 2002's Spiderman (approx. 7 films since 2008). ASM should blow past SM1 but that's because the prices in general for tickets have gone up considerably since them, and along with those higher priced tickets there are also other avenues to increased possibile for profits with IMAX, 3D viewing and other things to increase gross. I am sure in terms of the bottom line ASM is a box office success but I do think it will be over shadowed in a lot of ways by other film released this year (The Avengers, The Dark Knight, Hunger Games) in terms of buzz, acclaim and general interest.
