That will eventually fall too, I'd say. Usually when the older viewers go, it trickles down to the younger viewers. I suspect the year to year losses for Y&R in early 2010 will be significant, since the show gained a lot in early 2009, but gradually started to fall off again.

I think Y&R and B&B have 5 years tops left on CBS. Hopefully, the falls will be enough for CBS to push a better (or at least other) writing and producing team onto Y&R though...

Yep, CBS only renewed Y&R for two years and slashed the budget nearly in half. That doesn't look too promising to me. Regardless of what the show;s 18-49 demos are, the show isn't making the same profit or ad revenue that it used to make, at least not to the extent that CBS would like.

i can accept that Y&R will be gone in 5 years, I just hope changes are made at the show and it gets better writers and producers to help give it a solid send off, the current creative team at the show totally doesn't get it, or even basic soap elements.

B&B has a huge international presence. I believe they are the number 1 soap worldwide. Plus I think they only work 6 months out of the year. I suspect it keeps their budget down and I've read in places that the revenue they bring in internationally alone can keep B&B afloat. What that means in terms of their presence on CBS I have no clue, but it seems the show could potentially live on even if CBS were to cut the licensing fees dramatically.

5 years is being generous on my part.

As I said above, CBS only renewed Y&R for 2 years and slashed the show's budget nearly in half, that can't be too promising in regards to the show's future on CBS.

In two years, both of the Bell soaps could be gone, regardless if they're at #1 and #2 in the ratings amongst other poorly rated soaps.

Days was due for a bad week as it had been on a pretty good run. I hope this is a temporary setback and they rebound next week. Days usually gets a bump in ratings around the Christmas holidays so I hope that is the case again this year.

Yep and that's happened with all the soaps. We know that there were significant cutbacks at Y&R and all the ABC soaps and of course we all know the story with Days.

I keep hearing how happy these shows must be with their demos but IA. IF everything was rosey there would be no budget cuts. And if Y&R is still number 1 in demos and their demo number drops to 1.0 or 1.2 is that still considered good because they are number 1 in demos? Demos drop I suspect proportionately to ratings dropping . At some point the demos number 1 or not won't be large enough to continue to attract those sponsors.

It's been down two straight weeks. It might go up next week since it has been down lately. Days doesnt have much time either yet. A 2.0 isnt that far from a 1.8 ATWT has. And you know what happened to ATWT. NBC is looking for anything to cancel Days.

Yeah but I could have sworn B&B was in a secure position because of it. Like they could actually cancell B&B on CBS but continue to produce the show for the overseas markets, the demand is so high. I do believe B&B is number 1 internationally and that includes over the British developed soaps. I could be wrong of course.

    • Can we talk about how iconic the 1994 tornado was on AMC? I was scanning through old episodes last night and came across this episode. The tornado was epic and the storylines/aftermath were so good (Julia's scar/Noah!; Jenny/Ray/Nola/Jesse in heaven with Tad, etc).  For 1994, these special effects and budget for this big event were amazing. 10 out of 10!  The only thing missing is Erica!  I can't recall where Erica was at the time, but I really wish she had been involved in this storyline.

    • On the way to her own engagement party? I've read that the show had trouble getting the audience to sympathize with Rita, but...that seems bizarre. Maybe I can understand the issue with the censors, given that at the time, rape wasn't depicted the way it is now, and marital rape was even less acknowledged.  Wasn't Chris Brooks' rape one of the first honest stories on the subject? I just don't think I could get into a show I didn't have a working knowledge of. I know it's a different era, but I really tried to get into GH once Maura West joined, but it just never jelled.
    • Yes it was! My mom and I convinced my dad to get one. He was--how shall I put this?--on the thrifty side, but one day he came home with one as a surprise. To this day, I'm convinced it fell off a truck. (He knew people with "connections."

) BUT, we had our VCR and we could watch our soaps. That thing lasted forever! It was built like a tank. Even when we got new ones with more features, we kept that one.

Blasphemy!  (Haha, I get it.  But, you should try watching AMC! 80s-90s was so good.)
    • I thought about saying how I resented the fact that those two newbies were tripping up the Puppetmaster of all Puppetmasters, when the best others could do was a stalemate (or less...). But, well...*sigh*
    • I read years ago that both Zaslow and Lenore both complained that it came off as a seduction because of CBS censors, so Lenore asked if she could say, "you raped me" to leave no doubt with the audience, and that Zaslow insisted that Holly's rape played realistically
    • Wow it’s official, Gatwa is out… https://www.avclub.com/ncuti-gatwa-addresses-doctor-who-finale-statement DW fandom on Reddit is in a furor over how things went down and apparent last minute scrapping of the original ending. Also…Billie Piper again really?
    • He comes pretty close, talkin' about how Reva is full of love and joy, blah blah....which is bilge considering he was the one responsible for throwing her out of Josh's life over working with Alan.
    • Just watched the episode concerning Olivia's drug use and Abby's persistence, etc. Donna Mills did stellar work in this episode, as did Tonya Crowe and Brian Austin Green (Brian).
    • But by Dinah and Hart...Hart especially looked as if he could not tie his own shoes!  Ed, Holly, Alan, Alex Henry and Vanessa among others were not able to put Roger down....Dinah???
