TV Guide Magazine: Scott Reeves Joins GH as Steven Lars Webber

Exclusive: Scott Reeves Joins General Hospital

by Michael Logan October 22, 2009 02:19 PM EST

Look who’s putting on scrubs! Soap fave Scott Reeves is joining ABC’s General Hospital as the new Steven Lars Webber. The character, last played by Shaun Benson in 2005, will arrive in December as the hospital’s new chief of staff and be thrown into a storyline involving his half-sister Liz (Rebecca Herbst) and the two men in her life, Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) and Nikolas (Tyler Christopher). The gig is considered recurring at the moment, which is fine with Reeves. The actor and country music artist, who spent 10 years as Ryan McNeil on The Young and the Restless, will commute to the L.A.-based GH from his home in Nashville.

“I’m still writing music and still recording but I really got hungry for acting again,” says Reeves, who earned CMA and ACM nominations as half of the popular duo Blue County. “I’ve always had a great respect for GH so I kinda courted them. It was the one show I most wanted to be on. Steve Burton [who plays mobster Jason Morgan] and I are best friends – we’re literally like brothers – and I just love the people over there. My agent put out feelers and [GH casting directer] Mark Teschner called back. They had a role. The timing was perfe ct.”

Reeves and his wife, former Days of Our Lives sensation Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), are about to launch their own syndicated radio program, The Scott and Melissa Reeves Show. They have two children, Emily, 17, a budding singer, and Larry, 12. Says Reeves: “I was checking out my genealogy on GH and found out that my character’s father was played by Richard Dean Anderson. So I’m suddenly a big hero to my son. He’s like, ‘Macgyver is your dad! All-right!”

For more scoop on Reeves and his GH role, check out the November 9 issue of TV Guide Magazine.

Leslie Charleston signed a new contract a few months ago. BTW, you should've mentioned Y&R in the title because Scott Reeves was a very important character there for around 10 years. I'm VERY excited by this! Nice that they're adding more people for Robin, Patrick, Liz, Lucky--the non-mob characters--to interact with. I loved his romances with Victoria and Nina on Y&R. Loved his exit story with Tricia. Loved his relationships with Jill and Neil. It was sad to see him go.

I was never that crazy about Ryan -- they dismantled Nina to help push him, and that awful relationship with Tricia. He was OK, I guess. I never really thought of Scott Reeves as more than a hot bod. Good luck to him on GH. I guess this makes it even more likely Jason Cook is on the way out.

LOL, not GH related, but I did mean the "Kool Aid", Sylph.

What was Steven Lars' last arc when he was played by the curly-haired guy? Who did he relate to?

It seems to me, since SL is a doctor+cop, that Jason Cook's days are numbered.

The hospital is never prominent on GH so I doubt this character will spend more than 2 minutes there. He will likely be Liz'a confidant. Gawd, I hope this does not mean a WTD story. Eek!

I know that there is no hope, but I would love it if he becomes interested in Robin while Patrick is busy elswhere.

I can't figure how JC has stayed around so long. He is supposed to be involved in this story with Patrick's ex-girlfriend, but he probably won't get more than 2 scenes at first and then be forgotten.

Don't you think Melissa Reeves is still 'young' enough for this new DAYS, though? I mean, Jennifer Horton is still a very viable character and could fit in quite well with this new incarnation of Days of our Lives...same with Jack. Maybe not a leading role but definitely a nice supporting character, plus Jack around to look after Stephanie as well.

This is good that GH are rebuilding the Webbers. I really think GL's cancellation has forced the soaps to take a look at what fans look for in soaps and are rebuilding core families.

I think that if she returned, then people would ask about Jack, then people would ask if they come back why can't Patch and Kayla, or John and Marlena.

If she came back in a somewhat supporting role, with Jack, or with Abby (and Stephanie written out with Abby taking her place as a young ingenue), I guess it could work. I'm not sure if the show would go there or not, they seem to have a balance with the vets they have right now.
