Members DRW50
I really don't want them to kill Phillip off again after bringing him back. It's lazy writing on a show that already revels in the easy way out. It's also the same fake dramatic irony they have already overdosed in. Jess Walton being MIA has little to do with Phillip's return. They have been ostracizing and phasing out Jill for most of the year. They want to make sure she's seen as disposable, so that way when she goes, no one will care. They have done the same to MTS. The show is in another flat period again. You missed the wonderful "Victor took 3 bullets for Jack!!!" crapola with Colleen getting Victor's heart, complete with Beth Maitland carrying the entire story on her back. Members DeeeDee
Pretty much. But the way they are doing it is stupid in the span of a 6 months/year they have had huge disputes with at least 4 or 5 of their major vets. Y&R & Sony are putting themselves in a precarious position cause they haven't done much, if any, of the necessary groundwork for the show's legacy characters to justify treating the veteran characters/actors the way they have. Members DeeeDee
Braeden never disputed the budget cuts, his problems were with when & how it they were implemented. TPTB have been phasing Jill out for the past 6 years.
Members DRW50
Exactly. We are living in a new Y&R world where, in a year or a year and a half, Nikki, Jill, Victor, Jack may not be around. Sharon Case and Michelle Stafford can both bring it, and Eileen Davidson can when she's motivated, and Jeanne Cooper is usually very good (although she's not going to be on the show forever), but otherwise what do we have? Are we going to base a show around Billy, Lily, Cane, Chloe, Nick, Adam, and the Scoobies? This would be like Y&R 1989, if Terry Lester had quit and the show really HAD only been about Cricket. That's true, but it seems like they revved forward more this year, making sure she no longer had a job at any of the big companies, making sure she has almost no relationship with any of her family. Members DeeeDee
Exactly. TPTB can live in their little fantasy world all they want but Y&R isn't GH or Days, for better or worse the vets are a necessary part of the show's success. It's been pretty much the same for the past 6 years. Jill hasn't been fully Jill since Jack Smith's original idiotic retcon. The main reason why it's been so noticeable in the past year is cause TPTB have unnecessarily canonized Katherine & abandoned business stories leaving Jill to do nothing but sit on her ass & file her nails. Members DRW50
And GH did such a good job of diminishing the real vets, like the Quartermaines, and Laura, that a lot of viewers would never miss them. To a lot of viewers, Sonny is a vet. Carly is a vet. They dumped their vets with ruthlessness because they had less to lose. Y&R has so much more to lose but the people running it are too arrogant, or cheapjack, to care. That's a good point about why Jill's isolation seems so much more severe now. It still seems like she used to be a little closer to the Abbotts then she is now.
Members DeeeDee
She was but The Abbotts aren't even close themselves anymore. You can thank Jack Smith & LML for that.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
The family dynamics, as well as relationship dynamics on Y&R are so horrendous right now, it ain't even funny...
Members DeeeDee
They should be the best thing about the show since that's the only thing the characters have focused on the past two years.
Members Ann_SS
I think that Y&R is going to be surprisingly fine without EB.
Members rhythmchyc
Huh. Looks like the end of Y&R will be worse than the last season of Baywatch Nights.
Members DRW50
It almost has to be, if there's no Eddie Cibrian in tight pants. I do wonder what they will do with the extra money if EB goes. Will we get any improved production values, or return of critical characters? Or will this just end up being frittered away like a lot of the money on the show now? I will be surprised if Hunt Block doesn't get a phone call if Braeden goes. Members Juliajms
I don't think that's true at all. Well, maybe many of the viewers that actually stayed with the show don't miss them. But ABC botched things so badly they lost millions of viewers. Many people simply left with Laura and the Q's. Members DRW50
I think a lot of people left because the show has been very weak - 2003-2007 were especially horrific - for some time now. I don't remember if ratings fell all that much at the specific times of the Q slaughterfest or Laura's horrible exit. It seems like it's been a much more gradual process, as longtime fans continue to try to find a reason to care, only to be further pushed away.
