Are there any other shows with couples-fans who were as unhinged as the ones who for some reason gravitated to GL in the 2000s? I remember the story about the Mannyac who presented an effigy of LW - a Big Bird doll with a noose around its neck - to Saundra Santiago at a fan event. The Rassies who intimidated an organ transplant charity into pulling a PSA from GL because their prince died. (They changed their donor status over that story!) Then the same mob letter-bombed John Conboy into thinking that Bradley Cole was the greatest actor to ever grace the small screen before he even took the reigns as EP.

I'm sure other shows have had fanbase wars & groups of fans who behaved horribly.

For me, GL became unwatchable under Conboy/Weston. Making Alexandra Reva's stalker, Ben Reade a serial killer, the introduction of weird characters like Sandy the puppeteer and Christopher the psychic instead of the GL characters we actually wanted to see, and the coup de grace: the history-destroying Maryanne Caruthers story which was so stupid it pains me to recount the details. (BTW, was it Conboy or Weston nursing a grudge against Julie Hanan Carruthers? Why did they make the name of a roofie/murder victim so close to a peer in the industry?)

Here I totally agree. (Well, I didn't & don't know anything about Julie Hanan Carruthers.)

I know that some here have nostalgia for Wheeler's work on AW but we must admit that she was an abject failure as an EP. After a few months of Wheeler/Kreizman I realized that they were never going to rebuild GL. A few years ago on Alan Locher's channel DZ admitted that Jonathan was his "author surrogate", which is why he took over the show for years. He said when Tom Pelphrey left, he didn't know what to write. You are the headwriter of a show with 70 years of backstory and you can't come up anything else to write?!

Now this is one thing that some people say that I don't find at all realistic. I don't know anyone at all who in any way considered Ellen's work as an actress on either AW or AMC or B&B to have anything at all to do with her work as a Director or a Line Producer or an EP. I frankly can't think of a single producer who would have thrived with that tiny budget or the mandate for the new production model. I thought the writing improved greatly when others were named as HWs.

Anything that inspires fans will inspire fanatics. While I can't speak for GL, I know back when there were multiple message boards, things could get very heated between fandoms. *raises hand as a "crazy CarJacker"* ABC fans are notorious for fan wars.

Actually, minus the noose, representing LW as Big Bird is kinda funny. While I was ok with Cassie for a while, the longer she stuck around Zimmer, the louder and less interesting Cassie got. She's flippin' unbearable now on GH.

Side note: I'm probably a moron for forgetting this, but while I was watching Christmas Eve 1982, I was thinking....gee, did Don Stewart ever do Broadway? And with his looks, he'd be a natural in a Robert Goulet type role....only to google that he understudied Goulet in Camelot.

Lord...the screw ups that Conboy and Weston (and MADD has ultimate responsibility) had when the show was just getting its legs back.  Taggert was the one who came up with the idea of Jonathon (he was going to be the real stalker..though perhaps they were going to have Alex do a fake stalking to distract Ace Reporter Reva, which they ultimately did, but then there was really no stalker at all...)  and they screwed that up with Sandy and the sock puppet, putting Cassie with her former tormenter (who also tried to kill her sister and her nephew) bringing back Cole, the MaryAnne storyline, changing Alex from a calm cool manipulator who had good intentions, to a crazed drug dealer (supposedly picking up on Marjs' frentic energy ) Ben Reade serial killer (blaming it on being molested by his teacher) Mac n' Cheese Alan and Gus a Spaulding, Ed slapping Michele in the Bauer kitchen of all places...I think they take the prize for most destructive in such a short time!

You could also tell Kreizman was practically cosplaying he was big bad Jonathon and that he was figurately wacking off as Harley being his girlfriend. But that all comes down to Wheeler as the producer, she should have reigned him in...all of it comes down to producers watching day to day writing and Wheeler was in over it.

You describe ConWest so well!

Another thing that came from Taggert was poetry. Cassie read Mary Oliver's "Wild Geese" at Richard's funeral. Ed read ee cummings, sometime, I'm sorry but I can't think when it was.

Was someone here looking for a clip of Dinah telling Reva to shut up? 12/30/97 at about 9.30

That shocked sitcom mother face on Reva makes me laugh. In the old days she would have given her a backhand.

I don't know what it says about my tastes that this version of Dinah is the only time I enjoyed Wendy Moniz's version of the character.

(Dinah really was nothing special as a character until Gina Tognoni anyway - she was born to play that part, and I say that as someone who spent years trashing her OLTL runs)

Gina Tognoni really shone in that part.

Speaking of her, I recently learned that she participates in an online prayer circle. One of the things they regularly pray for is that the right part for her will be offered to her.

I'm going to refrain from making any commentary about that.

I don't really rewatch a lot of the Moniz era, as I try to avoid Matt at all costs. ,I probably favor Moniz over Tognoni by a hair, but that's probably as much to do with Moniz having better writing and getting more time with Maeve and Jerry.

Interesting as I couldn't stand Tognoni as Dinah. I'm not sure who I disliked more during their tenure on GL: Pelphrey or Tognoni.

I loved & adored them both.

I know I'm in the minority. I didn't even like her on OLTL. I gave up on YR before she appeared on there.

Being familiar with the minority, I have empathy for you. I didn't see her on either of those shows. Just didn't happen to be watching at that time. I keep watching & waiting for her to show up somewhere.

I adore Wendy Moniz. Her version of the character was "my" Dinah. I've been watching the Ghost Reva episodes lately. Those eps and this clip remind me of how dirty the Layne/Shayne sisters did Annie and Dinah.

Thank you for that. It made my night.

You're welcome. I found myself a treat---Vanessa slapping Ross for agreeing to represent Matt to force her into a C-section. The writing is preachy, but Maeve and Jerry are gold.
