Members DRW50
Please register in order to view this content I wonder if this is the last mention of Peggy on GL. Clearly someone at the show had a fondness for the Stapleton sisters. Poor Joe Bradley didn't even get a photo. I assume this is from 1987. They did a good job with using various stories for headlines, although the Sara/Lee Gantry and Kit/Charlotte messes should have been here. Members P.J.
Actually, I think Ross did sleep with Alex. He didn't sleep with Lillian, though few did. I know people liked Nadine. To me, she's just an annoying plot device. If anything, I could see Harley, Bridget and Vanessa all at some point thanking God they had hadn't wound up like Nadine--always desperate and sabotaging themselves. We are like twins...I just watched that last night. I can't believe that's how they celebrated the 50th anniversary...Maeve rushing out some special edition. OY. Yes, the clips from fan favorite moments were nice, but you'd think they could've built up some better story. It would be interesting to see what clips fans would ask for now.
Members DRW50
Sounds like a good read of Harley's last years on the show. I think I just enjoyed watching Jean Carol. To me she was a great actress and a distinct one who could play just about anything. I don't ever bother to defend Nadine's actions, but I do think she, and viewers, deserved better than pining after Buzz for her last 2-3 years on the show.
Members P.J.
I will admit, being going from story with Billy/Vanessa to Buzz/Jenna seems like a huge downgrade.
Members Reverend Ruthledge
The show was really being mismanaged at the time. I was thankful for the few crumbs they threw us.
Members P.J.
I guess it was also the start of the Bauer BBQ and the introduction of Alan-Michael.
Members kalbir
Also Pamela Long returned as HW in July 1987. Edited December 15, 2024 by kalbir
Members Reverend Ruthledge
The first Bauer BBQ was in 1984, I believe. However, I don't think they had one in 1985 or 1986. I could be wrong about that, but I know there was a July 4th BBQ in 1984. I think it kind of became "official" in 1987. Members P.J.
Yeah, I think it becomes a big thing in 1987.
Members Mona Kane Croft
Regarding P&G soap opera matriarchs and heroines. Wasn't sure where to post this, so decided to start with the Guiding Light group, as there seems to be a lot of P&G collective knowledge here. I'm rather confident there will be no definitive answer to my question, so any replies will likely be speculation -- but that's okay with me. Here's the question: Were the following actresses ever all in the same room together at the same time -- Helen Wagner, Charita Bauer, Virginia Dwyer, Mary Stuart, Ann Flood?? And if so, what was the occasion?
Members Alan
PGP held an annual holiday party for all of its soaps. I'm not sure when the tradition began, but it was always covered in the magazines. You might be be able to find the answer by consulting old issues of Afternoon TV.
Members Franko
Another World being on NBC and/or Search for Tomorrow not being an Irna Phillips creation and/or crossovers not being a thing in their era would have prevented this, but I still sometimes imagine a bridge game played by Nancy, Bert, Mary, and Jo. Members P.J.
I can't even speculate, although I'd assume Wagner, Bauer and Stuart probably were. The one thing I've realized lately is that the soap community is smaller and more connected than I had ever realized.
Members P.J.
And it's really too bad how they gutted Harley those last years. Gus was bad enough, but Cyrus was insulting.
Members Paul Raven
SOD ran a 2 part article about soap vets and how they were being treated in the early 80's. The interview was held at Mary Stuart's apartment I recall. Mary was there along with Barbara Berger and Charita and some others, who I can't recall off hand. I'll try and track it down if you're interested.
