January 23-27, 1989 must have been the week we first saw a masked Roger. I think it was sometime in February that Roger unmasked himself, then in the last week of May Springfield learned Roger survived the fall off the cliff in Santo Domingo.

I'm not sure. I haven't made it past Sept '93. Michelle has this idea that there's a secret, and at one point she thinks that it's that Ed killed Maureen.

And I've forgotten more of late-90s GL history than I care to admit.

In regards to some of your previous comments regarding Maureen Garrett and Maeve Kinkead being underrated and overshadowed, I concur. Like Beverlee McKinsey, Garrett and Kinkead portrayed their characters with such believability. There was never a false note in either of their performances.

One of the things I admired about all three actresses is that they didn't always go for the big moment, even though they could have. They did it when it made sense, and to me, it was so much more impactful. It meant something to me when any of these three characters shed a tear or yelled because they didn't do it regularly. I'm not suggesting that one style of acting is right or wrong, but for me, their style of acting was more aligned with what I wanted as a viewer.

I truly wish Garrett and Kinkead received more accolades during their time on the show. I stopped watching Guiding Light in 2000 when Holly got swept to the sidelines. Without Michael Zaslow there either, I just couldn't hang on.

Taking a moment to share some thoughts on some things briefly touched on in the last couple pages.

First the passing of Renaud White who played William. I would say he was a fairly substantial minor character and was on at least as early as 1985. He even had a brother that found Beth's message in the bottle when she was captive on the Infinity and turned it over to William who gave it to the main characters. After the restaurant was phased out, he accidently sat in a booth already occupied by Holly and they became friends, and she hired him at WSPR. Eventually he faded out but shocked me when many years later he returned for some episodes to be the maitrede for The Towers then run by Cassie.

Next Jay Hammer. Years ago one of the in charge people at the GL fan club asked me to write a retrospective on Fletcher for the fan publication The Springfield Journal. I was shocked later to get a thank you card from Jay. It never occurred to me he would read the article let alone bother to send me that card. I think that says a lot.

Did Trish and Alan really have sex? I know he's trying to set her up as his next mistress, while he's still legally married to Hope. Trish is kinda/sorta dating Mike, and Alan gives her a bracelet for her "good work" at Spaulding.  She clearly has the feels for him, but doesn't want people to think she sleeping her way to the top. Alan arranges for her to work on Ross' campaign, and after Henry's heart attack, Vanessa worms her way back into Spaulding, taking the VP job that Trish was expecting when she returned to Spaulding and that Billy talked his way out of, getting Alan to buy out his contract for $300K.

SOC says they did, but Trish's bio is all screwed up. They have her having an affair with Alan in 1981 and Vanessa telling Hope. Trish wasn't getting involved with Alan until 1983.

And does anyone have the dates of Quint and Nola's wedding or Phillip/Rick/Beth's graduation? Someone on youtube dated the wedding as 6/24, but I'm trying to back track Billy and Vanessa's relationship, but the German episode 1075 corresponds to 6/20.

Who is the annoucer in the 80's? It's not Dan Region, who did ATWT for years. I thought Dan was credited in the ATWT credits, but I don't see anyone on GL's.

Nevermind--found it

    • Have to agree re MM. The goody two shoes character and writing doesn't help but maybe a more dynamic actor would help Brandon lift his game also. I found the song sequence a little OTT. First of all it should have been shorter and maybe the song fades out and just some music to accompany the montage. I think it would have worked better if Anita had have been alone after everyone left and started tinkling leading into the song, with Vernon coming in observing and then joining her for  a close moment. Everyone standing around felt a little too much.

    • And sadly I think that’s the trivia Both Jeanne Cooper and Eric Braeden went with for years and years. Lol
    • But people were hating so bad on amc and the final year and the ratings sucked. Business wise they made the right call. Oltl who even gained some ratings back and weren’t they higher as GH at one point is a decision and never understood.
    • Ann Williams was the first Maggie Powers on The Doctors but left to have a baby. Maggie was successfully recast so Ann picked up the role of Eunice (Jo's sister on Search for Tomorrow) and played that role for 10 years before being killed of in 1976. That led to her role of Margo on EON.
    • Looking at those totals it seems most contract actors are on a 1 or 2 week average guarantee. I assume contracts are still operating on 13 week cycles so you would have to know the particular actors contract starting date to work out their guarantee. The question remains as to what actors listed as contract are actually recurring? Bryton ?
    • Yep, that scene was at the conclusion of the Derek Thurston vs George Packard storyline, when Kay decided neither of them should run Chancellor.  By the time she put Victor in charge, Victor had been on the show for months & months with his Rolls Royce, his ranch, and Newman Enterprises.  SONY released some Y&R "trivia cards" in the late 1980s, and one of the questions was "who brought Victor Newman to Genoa City?" The answer on the back of the card is "Kay Thurston, to run Chancellor Industries", and it's a wrong answer lol.
    • I think someone said it did exist, but I can't remember.
    • The bit with the scarf reminds me of the fabled stuffed animal scene with Rick and Phillip. (That wasn't debunked, was it?)
    • Ohh, interesting. I instantly gravitated towards her in that episode. Of course I'm already hooked and want to know why she was trying to poison that older lady, but then how did the older lady know to switch the mugs so Susan drank her own poison...  but I have too many timelines I'm watching right now haha.  Oh, Bolger is definitely hot. I didn't realize he was on GL haha. I knew him from OLTL and other primetime stuff.
