Priscilla Garita didn't portray the role of Pilar. That was Paula Garces. And I totally agree about her performances on AMC.

Oh right. Priscilla was on Sunset Beach. Sorry to both ladies...

It is interesting that Ross was originally introduced to have more family around Justin, which resulted in both Ross and Lainie in the Springfield canvas. Then Lainie and Justin get written out, and Ross becomes the last Marler standing for years. As Jerry Ver Dorn once stated in a Soap Opera Digest interview, once Mike Bauer left Springfiled, it was pretty easy to stay in Springfield as the only consistent attorney within the town. He wasn't wrong at all.

Did they ever do anything with Lainie? Her stay seems really, really brief.

I'm sure part of it was just needing a trustworthy lawyer in town. But I don't think Jerry gets enough credit for his ability to be that person, if that makes sense.

Jerry was so charismatic, yet able to seem like an everyday person. That's incredibly difficult.

The only thing I remember of Lainie is the 1979 episodes where she was in the hospital due to her leg injuries, and she was in love with Ed. I always thought that was an odd choice as Ed was heavy in story with Holly and Rita. I assume this was just meant to be a schoolgirl type crush and Lainie would have moved on, but I'm not sure who the Dobsons planned to pair her with.

I had some vague memory about either her accident or having had the accident. Granted there's not a lot of episodes with her in, but she's not very mentioned in the recaps, and she's gone before Jackie's death in '82.

I loved Henry, but didn't get to see enough of him to really place him top 5 anywhere.

William Roerick really is a sweetheart. I know I'm biased, but Henry and Vanessa are probably my favorite father/daughter duo.

Those episodes are the most I have seen of her - I think she is in some of the Jennifer's trial episodes as she was working as a legal assistant or something by then. I haven't really watched those. Then she marries Carter Bowden (was that his name?) and leaves and shows up again heavily pregnant while Jackie is staying with her a few days before Jackie dies. They missed a trick never bringing any of her kids on to give Ross a headache.

She got lost in the shuffle when Marland took over from the Dobsons.

The Dobsons clearly had a major storyline planned for her. She was an ambitious athlete with the goal to make the Olympics. Then she had an accident that threatened her athletic career. Floyd befriended and helped her while she was doing physical therapy. There were hints dropped that she was developing a crush on Ed, who was her doctor.

Then Marland basically drops ALL of that (and, frankly, I don't mind dropping the Ed part of it, that's kind of icky, she was WAY too young for him). She ends up working for Mike in the law office. I think she was on for at least two years, and that's how they burned off her contract.

Eventually, she ends up married to art gallery owner Carter Bowden and moves to Chicago. She briefly came back during the Carrie storyline. Jackie goes to stay with her when she is separated from Justin. She's pregnant at that time, though that kid and any others she might have had are never mentioned by Justin and Ross (how not surprising, LOL).

They took so much trouble setting up her character they must have had some specific plans. Possibly they already knew MG and MZ were planning to leave, and that would have caused a need for another female character to get involved with Ed.

I've said many times before that I strongly believe the Alan/Hope story was going on a much different, much darker trajectory than Marland wrote for them. The Alan/Rita affair was something that had been set-up and hinted at for a very long time. Possibly, after much humiliation at Rita's hands, the Dobsons planned to make Ed vulnerable to a very ill-advised affair. Such as one with a girl much too young for him.

We'll never know, but it's interesting to contemplate.

That could have been an interesting story, and a darker path for how much Ed drew in broken birds.

They didn't create Vanessa so she wouldn't have been involved, but Vanessa and Lainie fighting over Ed while Vanessa is hung up on Lainie's brother is another compelling story.

VintageNoSpintage has put up a number of June and July 1984 episodes (not sure if these are the same videos that I think were on Spauldingfield's channel at one point earlier this year).

I think the Dobson's were setting up Floyd/Lanie as a couple.. probably a slow burn couple with him being a screw-up/annoyance to Katie and Lanie was developing a crush on Ed.

Not sure how close she was to Ross/Justin.. but she seemed a lot younger than both of them and not sure if their parents were alive or not.  Perhaps the Dobson's were going to reveal Lanie had a daddy complex from losing her dad at a young age hence the crush on Ed.

Whatever the reason, Marland dropped the Lanie/Floyd connection and move Floyd into the Nola/Kelly story while Lanie was move to a supporting role working in Mike's office and eventually had a low key relationship before being written off.

@alwaysAMCSince you're a fan of Holly and Roger, you really do need to see some of their key moments from 1990 to 1994, starting with the Acapulco storyline in late 1990. I would also recommend the Cliff House storyline in late June and July of 1993. Great stuff!
