That's what I always thought too. She may have said longest running cast member as it was a comment about whether Jerry was the longest running when he did the goodbye to Charita Bauer. I thought it was her, but she said otherwise. Maybe she doesn't consider herself as the longest because of her maternity leave breaks. I don't know.

I did remember a clip of her on her channel labeled as 1978 with Mark (or whoever she was dating at the time) and a puppet.

After the Andy Norris story, she's basically a day player. Sometimes they address her absence, sometimes not. She's not at Hillary's funeral, for instance.

@Contessa Donatella I am glad that you are out of the hospital.  I wish I could get into soaps again.  Maybe, one day I can find a storyline that interests me.

I think it's good that soaps are still around.

Denise must be mistaken. Ironically, she's in a 1977 episode where she's talking to a returning Peggy Thorpe. Maybe they went on contract at the same time, but Katie precedes Ross.

For some reason I remember some snippet of Elvera saying she and Jerry started the same day. Which I also find hard to believe.

Which is exactly why you have to fact check everything. Denise Pence absolutely was there before JvD. Elvera was there before Jerry as well. It was almost 50 years ago so I understand how the memory can fade.

Grant Aleksander's briefs near the end of this video are shocking to me - don't remember GL ever having this particular display of flesh framed this way, not even with John Wesley Shipp.

Exactly. Unless you're writing a book. then I expect a little fact checking.

well, there are shorts in '83 that don't leave a lot to the imagination---but yeah.

MLH, thank you so much. You are a dear & it's great that you care & I can tell that you really do. I was in the hospital for only a week but then, I had to have daily IV antibiotics for 6 weeks. There was an infection raging through my body & it was serious. It could have killed me. But, my labs show, as of last week, that mean ole infection is totally gone. It's like a miracle. So, I got my picc line removed early Friday. I called them my Borg parts. A little Star Trek humor. But you might want to remember this: a hospital is no place to be if you're really sick. Was hooked up to 4 machines. They all went beep beep beep but not synched up. OY! And, then, you cannot get any sleep. Constantly they come in & poke you with needles or take your blank blank blood pressure yet another time. When I was released I slept for about 18 hours, no lie!

To me, they seem to afford a tiny bit more cover than the Speedo he wore on AMC. Do you recall that? In real time, it was absolutely notable. Of course Mac Cory wore a black Speedo all the time on AW when he'd go for a dip in the Cory pool.

You would think, for instance, someone like Frank on GL would be someone the women would go for, and he rates mostly a "meh" with female viewers. (Perhaps it's different with gay male viewers. Though maybe they don't like him either, LOL).

I can see that Frank in is youth was a really great looking guy, but I never found him sexy...(maybe it was the highlights in his feathered hair..) but then I never found the soap "hot" guys sexy...( I never found JWS sexy either...)well, okay,  Mark Collier on ATWT was one,but give me Ross in his suit and his glasses being uptight!

Unpopular opinion, but I was never crazy about GA as Phillip.
I don't care for his looks (too JER Days) and in my mind Phillip should be the spoiled, sometimes bratty, but deeply hurt friend/antagonist to Rick.
Someone like a young Linden Ashby would make him more interesting to me.

IMO, Frank was good looking, but not sexy. I liked him best with Sherry's version of Blake.  I wish they did more with them while Sherry was there. The OG Eleni was a good pairing too.

I guess if I were to pick, Josh would be the type I would find the most attractive, but I didn't care for how he would dump every woman for Reva. It became a turn off.

I liked characters like Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford's version) from Days of Our Lives. I didn't really see that type of guy on Guiding Light. Jack gave that David Addison from Moonlighting type vibe that I find attractive/sexy.

I never found Ross sexy or attractive.  I saw him as a safety thing. I actually thought he and Holly were better than Bloss (unpopular opinion, I know).

I couldn't stand Phillip nor Rick.  Sure, at times their friendship was good, but I wouldn't half way be attracted to either of them. Both were just as selfish (if not more) as Roger. However, I thought the actors brought their A game with providing drama and showing a bro friendship.

I found Nick attractive, but maybe due to finding out how he (Vincent) would be in a relationship off camera with whoever was playing Mindy turned me off. He may be the reason Kim Simms (my fav Mindy) really didn't return.

I think of Roger as a sort of father type figure that I cared way too much about.  I wanted him to always win, even though he didn't deserve to.  I thought the OG Alexandra and 2nd Mindy (Simms) brought out the best romantic side of him and worst in him. Holly and him were too back and forth (great chemistry though)...never any progress and then in 94/95 it went to crap. I wish they built more out of the friendship with Maureen Bauer. Something that would teach him that not all male/female relationships are sexually based.

I forgot to add that I found Roger's and Sonni's short relationship the most sexy for Roger.

Loved Michael's voice...sexiest thing about him.

While I could assess both Alexander and Shipp to be attractive, it was just in a clinical way. Neither of them really appealed to me. I found Jerry ver Dorn a lot cuter, TBH. And Michael Zaslow in his prime was a helluva lot sexier. WOOF!

There are times when I think MOL is sexy....around 95/96 when he was with Abby..they just never wrote Rick that well, he should have been like his grandmother, a friend to all. MOL strength was that he had good chemistry with everyone and always gave a big brother type vibe when written correctly. But soaps don't treasure chemistry unless its in a romantic relationship so people like he and Frank D were shuttled off. When they didn't write him correctly he veered into his bad mugging, which was annoying as hell.

That sounds really scary! So glad you're doing better.

And you know why? Because the shows think that's all they have to be. It's like when they get name stars, make a big fuss over them coming on the show, and then forget to create an actual character for them.

Marland had actually created a character and a storyline for JWS (no matter what I personally think of it). But mostly these types of soap hunks are switched around a lot, chem tested with everyone, then kind of fade away.

Robert Newman was rescued from that fate because Long took him out of the bad boy hunk category and put him into romantic lead instead. And somehow Frank D. managed to hang on through the years.

Grant Alexander benefited from Phillip being such an important part of Alan's character (really, the one person he truly loved). So he was key to the Spaulding family, even if he or Alan or both were off the canvas.

I guess it's personal taste, but to me there's always been something sexy about Ross/JVD. He was hot with both Maeve and Sherry, not so much with some of his other pairings.

I'm not attracted to either of them...just surprised at the scene. Usually when I see the '80s scenes of Speedo guys on soaps it's more along the lines of Kelly or Ridge Forrester where they are somewhat coldly sitting or standing at poolside, rather than hanging off and all around the lighthouse. Something in the framing feels more casual but also more explicit. Add in poor Kassie Wesley also being in such tight garb (not even getting into that Mister Mxyzptlk-esque Bauer cousin), and it all feels alien to most of the GL I knew. Then again this is the period where even Johnny, whom I first knew from later clips of endlessly singing with Chelsea or just standing around looking bored or vaguely puzzled, is half-naked or packed into the tightest jeans on the rack, not to mention Rusty, Frank, etc.
