A story like elder abuse would only work if the perpetrator was short term. The audience never would've accepted someone close to Henry abusing him. It might've worked while Vanessa was out of town, for instance. Or if Henry had gotten hurt, and discovered it was going on at the nursing home/rehab center he was recovering.

I could also see this story with Roger and Adam, when Adam returned in the '90s, especially if Roger had lost everyone else and resented Adam for still rejecting him.

I think there were a couple of luaus. One has the guys in grass skirts. The one I'm thinking of includes Fletch so it has to be '84 or later.

I think 4th in '84 also has Reva and HB setting up the house for Josh, and they make a point of saying they're paying the movers double overtime for working the holiday.

I seem to recall Peter Simon either saying he disliked the BBQs because they made him wear the chefs hat, or a rumor to that effect.

I could see Roger stuffing away Adam in a home, if not exactly abusing him.

BTW, was Roger Adam's only child? Crazy I never really thought about that before. That was also probably a strategic mistake by Irna. (I've never thought about who created Roger either.. I'm assuming since he appeared early '70s. What is it about this show and lone children?)

That makes sense. Maybe he could have been in the home with Bess Lowell.

I think Roger was Adam's only child but I am not sure. I think the Soderbergs created Roger. One of many reasons I wish some of that period was around is because it seemed he didn't really do a lot in his early days beyond singing at the restaurant.

Irna would have had a field day with Roger.

Roger was a singer? That's the first I've ever heard that. Why/when did he stop? Is there any surviving clips of that?

This is probably the closest we'll get:

Roger singing on GL must have been before my time, but I do know Michael was a very good singer. I saw him in a musical called Onward Victoria not long after he left GL in 1980.

There is a clip of the show with him in it on YT, but unfortunately, he's not the one singing in that scene. ☹️

As far as I can remember, Roger was an only child. But who knows, they may have mentioned siblings early on and it just got forgotten over the years.

IIRC, when Roger first appeared, he was managing some sort of nightclub? And I think @DRW50 is correct: Robert Soderberg and Edith Sommer created Roger. In fact, I think I read somewhere that Roger was envisioned originally as a blonde-haired preppy, lol!

SAD. ATWT I think acknowledged the holiday until the end.

In '90, they sing "This Land is My Land" and "God Bless America". It is up in the vault. I see I lost it on utube. G-D it. Oh, and I sigh over Ross in a tank top. But you don't have to. lol.

Finally got to watch and I loved it too! It was a pretty fuzzy copy of the episode, but I can tell Ross had a nice tan against that blue tank top... he looked good!

And I know you loved that ending when Billy dumped Nadine and went to Vanessa )

There were a handful of characters in there I'm not familiar with... who was Dylan's girlfriend in the pink, and her dad with the sunglasses?
