April 5, 2006. Jeffrey told Blake that Ross died in a plane crash-- No body tho, thank goodness. Later, they revealed that Phillip sabotaged the plane because he didn't want Uncle Ross to find him after he faked his murder (with Alan's help).

Wait. What? So Phillip killed Ross?

Yes, very stupid. GA played up the guilt for an episode or two when he came back in 2009.

Rick was also in on some plan to delay Ross. Cause he's the one that gets yelled at.

Yes, ppl were angrier at Rick than Phillip. Mainly because Phillip was off the show still.

By the Peapeck era, Rick was useless and was only there because they didn't want to write out the Bauers-- but they might as well have. Phillip wasn't there, sister Michelle wasn't there, Mel was with Cyrus and they didn't bother with a new romantic partner. He was basically OLTL's Larry Wolek-- just there to doctor to people by the end.

They should've brought back Mindy (recast for $$$ reasons) for Rick around 2006 or 2007. I'd actually bring in an adult Stacy who I'd have set around Dinah's age.

I think I detailed all that was said (as far as I can remember).

Okay; thanks. I appreciate you letting me know.

Good idea...Rick needed someone with pep..like Mindy or Stacy, a daughter of Nolas would maybe perk that dope up. I think that waitress he was dating (who was later an undercover FBI agent) was supposed to be Stacy..if she was written better it would work.

One of the biggest mysteries in GL history is why they never brought Hope back. Especially after Alan-Michael came on the show. Not bringing Mike back was another mystery but Hope's absence was even more of a mystery. They just really seemed to hate the Bauers post-1983. I'm actually shocked that they kept Ed and Rick on the show for as long as they did.

Leaving Peter Simon's Ed in Springfield was probably TPTB's way of turning the audience against the Bauer family for good, since PS's version of the character would bore anyone to tears.😒

Not only do I not count them, I refuse to accept their existence.

I referred to PS's Ed as "the fake Ed" for 27 years, LOL, while I referred to Johnny, Lacey, Jack and Lainie as "the retcon Bauers who do not exist."☹️

I'm also shocked that Phillip KILLED his Uncle Ross?

How do you sabatoge a plane and think anyone is going to survive it? WTH?

I'm beginning to think cancelling the show was a mercy killing now. When you're doing dumb stuff like this, it's time to hang it up.

I would be for this. Give Stacy Nola's energy. Maybe have the story kind of mirror Kelly/Nola (without the desire to trap Rick with a pregnancy). A lively woman with a staid guy...like in the old screwball comedies. Write to MOL's comic talents (and reign him in a little bit so it's not just pointless mugging).

I actually thought of RVV as "the fake Ed." Or, "Dr. Chuck Tyler, who took a wrong turn into Springfield."

I really think PS would have been less of a drag if they had written some decent stories for Ed. For instance, if they had done a better job with the fallout from Mo's death--have him go back to drinking, for one thing.

And wouldn't that have been a PERFECT time to bring back Hope? To help her uncle get back on the wagon.

But, no. It was just, "Mo's dead, whatever."

So many missed opportunities...

I suppose if you are generous you could say they had already set up Philip having a past of mental breakdowns, but that may be too generous.

At this time they claimed that Alan had kept him hidden away and set up a fake replica Spaulding office for him to work in. (IIRC, they had filmed this scene before Grant left).

They arrogantly tried to hire Grant back soon after firing him and he declined until late 2008.

When he returned, one of the first things he did was push a man off a cliff. This was an insane choice for a return scene, but viewers despised the character, so they didn't care. The story was almost immediately dropped.

Well, Grady had kidnapped Lizzie. And I believe he threatened to go after her again.

I forget how they explained it (or the explanation never made sense), but Phillip and Rick only sought to delay Ross. But Ross insisted on taking off, and the plane crashed.

@Spoon that link brings up an episode from 1991.

I don't think Rick was completely useless at the end, instead of trying to talk sense to Phillip, he was there to talk sense to Beth, but it rarely worked because he'd end up enabling her.
