It gives me a headache just thinking about all the yelling and talking over each other will be goin' on.

Happy 1,500!!! Thanks for posting this :)

And that YT video is one of my favorites that I have saved. You know how much I love soap opera openings, I've watched that thing several times

Thanks for all your reviews (I still need to catch up a few) as they have helped put new insights into a period that I watched but hadn't thought much of in a long time.

I enjoy that video too. I'm also reminded that I would have enjoyed some of the last openings if not for bad narration/songs (mainly the 70th).

Happy 1500 pages Guiding Light community! Y'all are my favorite topic to just read and observe.

You've helped make the OLTL thread more entertaining so thanks for popping into this one too.

It thrills me that of all the cancelled soaps we watched and loved over the decades, the good folks here at SON keep on remembering, celebrating, and sharing the love (mostly, LOL) for TGL This my all-time favorite serial, and I feel that it had the longest, continuous stretches of quality in daytime. The enduring war-horse gave us 72 (!!!) years of soap.

What an accomplishment, indeed. Let its ardent fans always keep The Light burning!

What a lovely tribute (and the videos are even better). I always enjoy your memories of the show, and like you, GL (and ATWT) was my favorite soap, a formative memory for me in all the joys, tears, connections, and betrayals of being a soap fan.

I hope Beyond the Gates will help shine more of a light on the P&G catalogue and keep those years going far beyond us. In this broken world we need the core values of GL more than ever - morality, yes, but also respecting brokenness and healing, and the wildly different people that make up daily life.

WHOA! Thanks for posting. I live 20 minutes from Bastrop! Checking my calendar, but I would totally go just to meet MOL.

The one with the hands makes me LOL after reading Kim Zimmer's description of it in her book.

I picked the right time to binge on Guiding Light. I'm looking forward to this, especially hearing their thoughts on how the San Cristobel story evolved and sputtered. It's never wise to split the show's central location. I never understood Cole leaving, only to return a year later as a new character. Jonathan was the true, lasting legacy anyway. I'd really love their thoughts on Colin. I had completely given up on GL that I didn't even know that the writers had a menopausal Reva give birth! WHY?! Seeing the clips on YouTube is a hard watch.

I've really enjoyed reading the thread, and thanks to everyone who shared their analysis of Kim Zimmer's book, especially @alwaysAMC . I feel like I have the book in my hands and was almost there in real time for the shenanigans.

❤️ - love to hear it again!! Always happy to help. It's fun to have more soap opera friends.

I haven't gotten to San Cristobal yet in my watch, so I don't know Cole's characters, but I'll watch this because I'm so interested in seeing Zimmer and Wright after all these years. I assumed they were still friendly, so this is great.

Thank you! It's been my pleasure to lurk and read yours and the other guys' posts in this topic.❤️ I'm already in suspense to find out what happens next in @alwaysAMC 's future recaps. Crazy Annie and Reva are entertaining even just on paper.

January 28, 1991. As Joshua Lewis prepared to leave town, he told his brother Billy, that Vanessa Chamberlain was going to be named CEO of Lewis Oil in his absence. Here he is saying farewell to Harley.

Here's the SOD cover, celebrating GL's 60th.

Love that cover, thanks for posting! Happy to see Dinah on there since she was a main star really for the full 2 years leading up to that big event. Surprised they put Phillip there and not Ross, but I get it.

Now I want to know what bizarre recasts they featured in that issue LOL.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lane Davies as Ridge Forrester is in there - someone at B&B really hated that recast.

Thanks @Spoon I remember rereading that issue until the cover fell off. One of the only GL covers in SOD's last decades.

Zimmer/Wright/Cole - show killers.

I wouldn't say that about the ladies.

Bradley Cole...well, Jeffrey sure as hell didn't help.
