Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering about both. Gunther was there one second and gone the next. I was wondering if there were clips of his demise or of Quint mourning him.

Also, if people wanna do a DID story correctly and not for shock value, Carrie Marler's is the one to study.

Do you think that because Marland was instructed to wrap up Carrie's story differently, which led to his departure from GL, that he went on to tell the story somewhat how he wanted to on Loving? Wasn't Lily given DID?

I don't think so.  I think one of his last stories for ATWT, which was Royce Keller's ordeal with DID, comes closer to being that attempt.  IIRC, Marland's original projections for the Carrie story called for Carrie to kill Jackie Marler while under the influence of one of her alters, which was pretty similar to how Royce's alter, Roger, would murder Royce and Lucinda's half-sister, Neal Alcott, years later on WT.

But I DO think that because ABC forced Marland to wrap up the Lily Slater story earlier than he had wanted, Marland took the opportunity with WT's Angel Snyder and her abusive father, Henry, to tell THAT story (meaning, of course, incest) the way he had planned to on LOVING.

I totally forgot about Royce DID story.

Seeing as you pointed it out, it was like Marland got to finally tell the stories he wanted to tell on ATWT, which was his greatest work of art. Sad ABC wouldn't allow him to tell the story he wanted to tell with Lily Slater either when he co-created Loving.

And the Lily story was his second take at the incest storyline after trying it on "A New Day in Eden." On "Eden," Emmett Claybourne, a scheming lawyer who worked for the electronics magnate Bryan Lewis, had an unhealthy attachment to his daughter, nursing student Cynthia Claybourne. Emmett had tarnished his ex-wife's name many years ago and run her and their son, Logan Claybourne, out of town. Logan returned to Eden to learn why Emmett had been so intent on keeping Cynthia. When Logan started getting closer, Emmett fled Eden, but not before a scene where it was alluded to that he raped Cynthia. In the final episode, Logan seemed to be getting closer to learning the truth, but he was shot by an unseen intruder. Cynthia, a bit frigid, was getting closer to Jack Wagner's Clint Masterson after his girlfriend, Pam (the one who had the lesbian one night stand with Miranda Stevens), faded from the story.

I suspect so, as Mart was the only one I can remember who Marland denigrated to that extent in an interview. I can't remember anyone else in TGL cast having bad press in 1981.

This was posted on the ATWT thread, but I didn't see it here (apologize if I missed it). This includes a brief snippet of Roger and Hillary #1, played by Linda McCullough.

    • Another lot of skipped episodes to look forward to when the time comes on Videoland. So annoying. They have skipped so many, especially in  season 15 where they skipped 19 episodes throughout the season. Is it just me or is the vault down? It's like a different error message this time so it's hard to know if it's me this time.
    • thank you for uploading the rest of season 12!!! I hope i can get them soon the links down! Thank you again for posting the B&B classic episodes to revisit!!!!
    • Hmm, okay.  BTW, my only problem with Kai & the surgery story is where is this guy's family? And, another BTW, I think I may have inadvertently added to that rumor from last year about a male descendant of Justus Ward. You see, that is an idea I could really get behind! Like I would pay to see those scenes. And, true, I did hear it ... [sheepish grin]

Yes they can. While rare, its not like soaps in the past havent said F that and used flashbacks of a scene even when a recast has been done. OLTL used to do that
    • Well, I am glad to know that & for it to make sense, so thanks for the info &  the perspective, also. At the end of AMC 1.0, I thought the new young talent was really quite good, but I missed Eden & NuBianca just ... well, I wasn't 100% sold on her & Bianca was so important to me. But then, Tad & Dixie were also important & yep, there's another problem, for me I mean. I'm not your typical AMC fan but I hung in there anyway. I know what you mean because it wasn't as good as it once had been but it was still Agnes's show in Pine Valley. Some of that is a bittersweet nostalgic clinging to the past, I guess. By that time I'd been through so many show cancellations. AW, Santa Barbara, PC, The City, GL, ATWT.

Betsy Snyder, when she was at DAYS was part of the WGA winning writing team before she died, tragically far too young.
    • Yep Edmund and Tad went under cover to infiltrate the... Willow Lake (I think?) old folks community scandal that was exploiting Phoebe, etc.  (Which at one point led to Edmund rescuing Brooke from quicksand--common around Pine Valley I guess

) EDIT maybe I'm wrong.  I found the quicksand scene

But for the story all I can find is Edmund going undercover as the gigolo "preying" on older women, Eduardo (no one would recognize him with that disguise and name ) so the drag must have been.. a different story?
    • But then he HATES the original Heather Webber (Cher's half sister played her, right?) and we know what happened when Robin would step into the role a year after this.  He does seem pretty spot on about actors who show promise otherwise.  It's interesting he knocks OLTL early on (though I loved all the recently released episodes from this era we got) but does give a lot of credit to the actress playing Cathy despite earlier complaining about her story.  And over all, while quite negative, his various pros and cons on the shows sounds about right with what I know of the shows at this time. This was a July dated issue of the magazine but and I know they date mags a month or two in advance--obviously when he wrote this he didn't know Lovers and Friends was gonna go off the air (in May I think).
    • You know one of the soap outlets posed that question just last week: Who do you want Trina with Spencer or Kai? And, of course, the picture of Spencer was NAC. I said, well, a lot. I chose Kai. I said that Spencer had been an entitled brat & that some people valued him over her, when I valued her above all others. I guess we'll see.
    • You're right. The only thing I can think of is if GH finally decides to bring back Spencer.
