I was reading a Digest from April 1984 and they were talking about whether Search was getting good again, praising Sunny's rape story. They also praised Ellen Barrett, and said, essentially, the last producer had only cared about personal publicity, not the show.

Wasn't Mary Ellis Bunim the producer before Barrett? I was shocked at such an upfront slam, especially since Bunim was still in daytime at that time (ATWT, or on her way to ATWT).

Or was that Joanna Lee?

Joanna Lee. I think Mary-Ellis left SFT in 1981 and moved over to ATWT so she was long gone from Search by 1984. Fred Bartholomew replaced Mary-Ellis and Joanna Lee replaced him. Remember the infamous August 1983 where Search went live because the tape mysteriously disappeared? Many still think that was a publicity stunt engineered by Joanna Lee.

I didn't realize :( I didn't know her from Search, I just knew her as Meta, but I loved her as Meta. I remember reading that before she died, P&G had a little ceremony for her, with an honorary Emmy, and a gift of thanks. In many ways I think that was probably the last goodbye for the P&G era.

I'm glad to see you here again. I haven't posted as much stuff lately but if there's anything you're interested in seeing, let me know.

I just watched the three flood episodes of SFT. Such great stuff to watch. I didn't know who everyone was, of course, but the spirit of the town was amazing. The Weather Channel and CNN reporter was a nice touch, too!

Jane Krakowski's voice sounds quite a bit different here. Even though she's younger, it sounds less...daffy here than it does on 30 Rock.

Did John Loprieno's character die? It makes sense--he was on OLTL later that same year.

David Forsythe wub.png .

Mary Stuart spending an entire episode nearly underwater when she was afraid of it--amazing!

Something about Suzi made me want to smack her upside the head. I know she was looking for her husband and it sounds heartless, but CAGNEYCAGNEYCAGNEY...ugh!

Sunny Adamson is love. Just from these episodes alone, she seems like such a great character wub.png .

And did Stu sleep through the whole flood or something? laugh.png

I'd seen the first two on WoST years ago, although I don't think I ever saw all of the second one (oh, dial up--how I DON'T miss you)--how great to see all three episodes! smile.png

I think someone said his character just sort of vanishes.

saynotoursoap also put up an episode with just the three McCleary brothers. Not sure if you got to see that.

These episodes are certainly a tour de force. While I think the annoying Suzi and not all that interesting Patty weigh it down a little, there are still some superb moments (I think there's one of Jo looking out a window at the makeshift hospital).

    • Another lot of skipped episodes to look forward to when the time comes on Videoland. So annoying. They have skipped so many, especially in  season 15 where they skipped 19 episodes throughout the season. Is it just me or is the vault down? It's like a different error message this time so it's hard to know if it's me this time.
    • thank you for uploading the rest of season 12!!! I hope i can get them soon the links down! Thank you again for posting the B&B classic episodes to revisit!!!!
    • Hmm, okay.  BTW, my only problem with Kai & the surgery story is where is this guy's family? And, another BTW, I think I may have inadvertently added to that rumor from last year about a male descendant of Justus Ward. You see, that is an idea I could really get behind! Like I would pay to see those scenes. And, true, I did hear it ... [sheepish grin]

Yes they can. While rare, its not like soaps in the past havent said F that and used flashbacks of a scene even when a recast has been done. OLTL used to do that
    • Well, I am glad to know that & for it to make sense, so thanks for the info &  the perspective, also. At the end of AMC 1.0, I thought the new young talent was really quite good, but I missed Eden & NuBianca just ... well, I wasn't 100% sold on her & Bianca was so important to me. But then, Tad & Dixie were also important & yep, there's another problem, for me I mean. I'm not your typical AMC fan but I hung in there anyway. I know what you mean because it wasn't as good as it once had been but it was still Agnes's show in Pine Valley. Some of that is a bittersweet nostalgic clinging to the past, I guess. By that time I'd been through so many show cancellations. AW, Santa Barbara, PC, The City, GL, ATWT.

Betsy Snyder, when she was at DAYS was part of the WGA winning writing team before she died, tragically far too young.
    • Yep Edmund and Tad went under cover to infiltrate the... Willow Lake (I think?) old folks community scandal that was exploiting Phoebe, etc.  (Which at one point led to Edmund rescuing Brooke from quicksand--common around Pine Valley I guess

) EDIT maybe I'm wrong.  I found the quicksand scene

But for the story all I can find is Edmund going undercover as the gigolo "preying" on older women, Eduardo (no one would recognize him with that disguise and name ) so the drag must have been.. a different story?
    • But then he HATES the original Heather Webber (Cher's half sister played her, right?) and we know what happened when Robin would step into the role a year after this.  He does seem pretty spot on about actors who show promise otherwise.  It's interesting he knocks OLTL early on (though I loved all the recently released episodes from this era we got) but does give a lot of credit to the actress playing Cathy despite earlier complaining about her story.  And over all, while quite negative, his various pros and cons on the shows sounds about right with what I know of the shows at this time. This was a July dated issue of the magazine but and I know they date mags a month or two in advance--obviously when he wrote this he didn't know Lovers and Friends was gonna go off the air (in May I think).
    • You know one of the soap outlets posed that question just last week: Who do you want Trina with Spencer or Kai? And, of course, the picture of Spencer was NAC. I said, well, a lot. I chose Kai. I said that Spencer had been an entitled brat & that some people valued him over her, when I valued her above all others. I guess we'll see.
    • You're right. The only thing I can think of is if GH finally decides to bring back Spencer.
