It's all the history they have that makes it so addictive. Add Emily..Melanie Smith..well always be Em to me and you got an addictive storyline. Of course I wish someone else was playing Paul instead of Roger Howarth.

I agree, both about KMH and RH. But at least to me, RH never seems bored when he's opposite AH either. And it's mostly the AH/CZP dynamic my history-lovin' heart loves. Oh...if only BenH were still around to be a part of it. :(

Xmas, the reveal that Riley is Adam, or when hell freezes over. Take your pick. You'd think she'd get a little time during the Kim health crisis...but then again, I doubt Holden's troubles will involve any Snyders but his kids and his sister.

I liked her too. She wasn't a great actress but she was competent and I liked seeing her take on Lily. I know Martha is the Lily everyone knows and loves, I just don't really think she is the only actress who can play the part. That's why I don't mind the recasts, even though I think the way Goutman treated her sucks. For me the only Martha character I loved was Rose.

I was fascinated by the Melanie Smith/Andy Kavitovit version of Emily/Paul. For a long time I didn't think I'd ever buy anyone else as Paul but then I was impressed with Scott Holroyd, only for him to be abruptly fired because they wanted Paul to be "dark". I saw Scott play "dark" on Medium earlier this year and he was fine. They never gave him a chance. I've never bought RH's Paul as dark or as anything related to Paul. I know Roger Howarth is a good actor with the right material, I just don't think Paul was a good fit for him.

Anyway, I do agree that he's better with Anthony Herrera around. And I'm very glad to see Barbara getting more airtime again. As you all said I just wish Ben H were still with us, Barbara/Hal and Emily/Hal were two of my favorite soap couples and I loved his roles in the big mystery stories.

Arrgh...don't remind me of that BS when they fired Scott. I guess "we're going in a different direction" is ExProducer speak for "we DROOLED at the chance to land a "name" and stick it to ABC again just months after landing Cady McClain." I think Paul's "dark side emerging" would have been riveting with Scott playing it, because we saw "the good son" who came home after Babs was burned. Seeing his Stenbeck side emerge slowly would have been classic soap.

Seeing RH's quirky, bombastic, neurotic version of Paul fell flat for me from day one.

There was so much I disliked in the story at that time. The recast Paul, then the total rewrite of Dusty (I still have no idea why he even needed to be Dusty), making Rose look horrible, abruptly killing her off. Then the big gooey romance between Paul and Rosanna which, like you said, only seemed to be about how great it was that they were both ABC stars.

Over time as I lost interest in most of the stories I stopped caring about what had happened but I still miss what Paul could have been.

Yes, Scott Holroyd rocked as Paul. So much squandered potential with RH now in the role as Paul. Stories that should click but don't, mostly bc of the way RH plays it, another is bc the writers are caught in this constant cycle with this character. I feel there is there is no progression, no growth, no lasting affects of what Paul has been through since the Sheffer era.
