Okay, I'll bite :). I planned to anyway, but time got away from my.

Your first question, which you omitted, was about why Devon was not living with his Aunt Tyra etc. Excellent question. I don't think it was answered, but what I surmised was that Yolanda ran away from her family and relocated to Genoa City, where she had Devon. But of course that doesn't work, because she had Ana after, and that child got left with Tyra. Somewhere along the line, Devon lived with his granny, and then after she died, he ended up in foster care. So, I assume it is either that by the time Devon's grandmother died, he was geographically far from family, or that (as the foster system sometimes does), they found his young-unmarried-"aunt" and great-aunt to be unsuitable as his adoptees.

Deee Dee is likely your best respondent, since she always feels she has the definitive answers.

SOC says "Jack Abbott and Victor Newman have always been bitter rivals in love and business. Jack married Victor's ex-wife Nikki, but their marriage was doomed because she could never get over Victor." My specific recollection is that is started when Victor decided he wanted to acquire Mergeron Industries (owned by Jack's mom), and that he pursued it in an underhanded way. (Initially, he had Nikki bat eyelashes at Dina's stepson Marc, while he kept company with Ashley). I forget the specific event that ultimately led Dina into a forced fire-sale of Mergeron to Victor (I wonder if it was the Brent Davis reveal...but I can't remember). Anyway, Jack had been in line to become CEO of Mergeron, so the sale to Victor deprived Jack of that career opportunity.

In the trailings of the Mergeron tale, of course, Victor and Ashley grew closer (Victor rescued Ashley from her first breakdown--where she learned about Brent Davis--and took her to the Newman Ranch to heal). Jack and Nikki grew closer. These were the seeds.

But I think the success of the feud is that, like Jill-Kay, it continued from that event. Time and again, the men have damaged one another, leading the other to a retaliatory move. It got really personal when John lost Jabot to Victor because of Jack's foolhardiness, and of course when Nikki lost Jack's baby.

The working-with-psychopaths angle is new. I really don't feel they ever crossed the line with each other like this--making it this personal--until recent years. (I'm not counting that time Jack stepped over Victor's lifeless body, or when Jack and Victor both sparred over Nikki and Ashley).

For me, the worm turned when Jack took advantage of Victor during the epilepsy/brain damage...buying NVP, taking a huge loan. That faked friendship was really low. I'm forgetting Jack's motivation to forge the diary and frame Victor for Walter Palin's murder (even though the diary was mostly accurate, we came to learn; the only real deviation was that Victor knowingly failed to rescue Palin, rather than actively drowning him). But, of course, that was a terribly rotten thing to do...and it also undermined any relationship progress between Adam and Victor (although Adam had done that himself with his behavior after Victor's "death"). But Jack never brought in a psycho to HARM Victor. That is a new and lower low...particularly since Victor further damaged the already damaged Patty.

The scripting is telling us that Victor never realized how unhinged Patty was...that he didn't knowingly bring in a psycho. Instead, he thought he was just bringing in a woman with an axe to grind. But, his family has been harmed by so many psychos (Edward, Rick Daros, Gary, Veronica, etc.) that I cannot believe that Victor was so foolish. The choice has really harmed Victor's integrity, IMO.

Jack & Victor feud started before Adam or MJ enter the picture. I was too young to know about their feud but my dad told me they was always at each other throats.

To me Adam wasn't crazy when he first came to town. He gotten crazy spending time in the pen.

I believe Victor knew MJ shot Jack once before. How did he not know when he was looking up her profile. I'm sure it read shot Jack almost killed him. Victor mouth watered reading this.

Well, here I'm having another memory spasm.

Because I thought that only Jack, Carl, Mary, Paul, Steve, Patty and her therapist knew about the shooting. I didn't think it ever got "out".

But now everyone seems to know, and it seems to have been buried in the police files.

Does anyone remember? I thought it was a secret.

Indeed, the answer to this shapes my opinion of Victor's use of her. I assumed Victor did not know how nutty she was, because he (like everyone) did not know Patty was the shooter. If Victor KNEW what violence Patty was capable of, and still brought her to town...then he really needs to die.

I posted this in the main episode thread, but it's probably better suited for this thread.

Look at this promo, I hope September 17th turns out to be one of the LOWEST rated days in that week. This stunt driven writing is totally turning this show into s.hit, and totally making it overly hallow, stupid, and unwatchable.

They aren't interested in "redeeming" Patty Jane, and knowing that she'll be at least in part responsible for yet ANOTHER

makes me beleive that MAB wants to keep her as a psycho villain to show how "dangerous" she is, as she told Nelson. This crap is embarrassing.

I hope this turns out to be Maria, Hogan, and Scott's "Out of The Ashes." Though, I certainly expect it will will be just as lousy.

THIS is everything wrong with Y&R and soaps in general: http://blog.soapoperafan.com/2009/09/the-young-and-the-restless-september-17-episode-sneak-peek-video-clip-preview/

I hate to burst your bubble, but the ratings were up last week. And OLTL, and their beautifully done, critically acclaimed KISH SL garnered a new record low for them. And the fans are LOVING OLTL right now. So I'm of the opinion that the ratings jsut go up and down like a damn yo-yo with no rhyme or reason. I'm through trying to figure it out.

Oh please, a 3.5 is nothing and the show is still under 5 million viewers. Y&R was nearing a 4.0 earlier in the year and over 5 million viewers.

And just a few weeks ago Y&R hit an all time low, so?

There's no rhyme or reason to them. But to the advertisers and idiots in charge, they matter. They don't see it as ratings not reflecting actual quality.

Im so disgusted that they are killing Colleen off, that is the last straw for me, I cannot watch her dying this way, its disrespectful to the character no matter who is portraying her. And killing of a legacy character is done for the sacrifice of shock value GMAFB

Did anybody hear that the Winters going to be off 3 months except for Lily. If this true they put their trust in the wrong black character. I guess they have to find out the hard way when it comes to CK.

They probably want to replace the Winters for unknown black actors & actress & trot them out when people cry that there isn't one black person on this show. They'll tell us that CKLily is a black character. Then the anounce so and so are now playing Niel Winters, Devon, & Olivia. They have a victim storyline for CKLily again. Have the new replacements supporting CKLily in one of many of her crisis. Just to prove two points that Lily is part of a black family & Lily is a black character. Then they'll send the replacements back in the corner so CKLily can interact with the rest of the white cast.

I wish they change CK character & make her ralated to Rafe maybe we can get to see more of him.

    • I had forgotten that several Days stars came out strong against Melissa. Good for them!
    • That would have made sense. Did all these characters get dropped when DePriest left or had they already been dropped?
    • The other issue with Missy: in June 2020, she "liked" some social media posts by Candace Owens -- things Candace said that were against Black Lives Matter.  That is described here https://tvline.com/news/melissa-reeves-racism-days-of-our-lives-instagram-controversy-2894568/ I don't know if that was ever resolved.
    • She appeared onscreen not long after Rose Livingston and Sara Montaigne, and we found out that Sara was Rose's estranged daughter. I wonder whether Peggy might have been part of that family group -- or else they were just juggling a few different potential mysteries so that they could develop whatever seemed to be getting the best response from the audience. They didn't do anything much with Rose and Sara really either. Maybe Rose would have become more prominent if Rachel and Mac had split up over Mitch, or if Sara had really flourished. In some ways I can picture Cheryl being affected by MJ's prostitution similarly to how Josie was distressed by finding out about Sharlene. But I can also see that Josie as a Frame being involved with Matthew would have different stakes for Rachel and Sharlene than Cheryl being involved with Scott. I do think the solution for Cheryl would have had to be a badder boy than Scott -- either a real bad boy who would do her wrong, or the kind of bad boy (not Chad!!!) who is essentially misunderstood and other people just don't understand. Cheryl would also have been better off with some friends her own age. Matthew and Josie benefited a bit from having other teenagers to interact with.
    • Sally Spencer was a decent actress, but the writing destroyed the "M.J." that Kathleen Layman had built. Layman had a quiet strength about her, and she and Osburn really felt like sisters. Spencer's character should have been either an unmentioned sister, or maybe Jake's that grew up close to Kathleen, M.J. and the rest, but was away for a few years before joining the force. Kristen Marie was o.k., but I always got a mousier vibe from her. Being pigeon-holed with Scott for most of the run hurt things for her, as well.  The Loves were also underserved between Rhonda Lewin and Philece Sampler. Philece would have been better as Nicole. Thank goodness Anne Heche  showed up for the next round of auditions. Christopher Holder was mediocre as Peter, but given a shot, I think Marcus Smythe could have stuck around for a while.  I would have had Peggy Lazarus be a Frame -- possibly an ex-wife for Vince with an agenda. Smythe and Hollen had  a fun chemistry that could have kept the two around.. Bringing recasts for  Cheryl and Ben back mixing it up with other Frames. Corys, Lawrences at the time might have kept all the families stronger.
    • shoot...he said in that Locher room with Krista. I think he met her before that---she was doing Broadway and they had mutual friends or an agent maybe?
    • Yes. And I assume he met Mary Ellen Stuart at GL.
    • That's an odd coincidence. Yeah, Roger would turn anything he could to his advantage. At the time, he's just taking the pictures to bank leverage over Reva, Billy or the Lewises.  I'm kinda squeamish about 1986 episodes myself. I'd love to hear the original version of Ross/Vanessa/Dinah, but the Cain story is bad, and I don't want Billy and Vanessa to break up.
    • Eeek. I didn't know this either! I will say, though, even though they skimmed over a lot of Roger's past, I will give them props for not trying to turn him into a hero. Yeah, I was hoping we would get more 1986 episodes than were available on YT before, but now I'm wondering if I really want to see that.
