Amazing historical reference. The pictures were incredible. I learned so much...like the fact that Carla Borelli and Brooke Bundy both worked on Days before Texas and GH respectively.

thank you so much for all you do.

I loved Carla as Mary. She was very far different from Reena - even Reena on AW before Texas.

Brooke Bundy was wonderful as Rebecca. I always felt that someone down the line would bring back her son to the show since he is Hope's only sibling.

ETA:

I realized this morning while lying in bed that Dougie is Hope's only sibling by Doug. Steven and Julie are her siblings by her mother Addie. What an idiot to not remember that. That was a stupid mistake for me. LOL

I never knew Jed Allan was on Days as far back as 71.Most sources list him as joining in 74/75.

He was on once in 71 and 8 times in 72,which leads me to believe he was recurring and then Bill Bell decided to make him a regular.

Also John Lupton as Tommy was on only a few times in 72.It seems Bill Bell had no interest in developing Tommy as a character after it was revealed who he was.

Looking at 1967,Tom,Alice,Mickey,Bill,Susan and Laura all had over 100 appearnces for the year, then Marie at 94.There is a huge dropoff to the 7th ranked character of David with 52.Those characters must have really carried the story that year.

Interesting that Tom and Alice had big numbers although they were not the lead players. Those were the days when older characters were given a point of view and visibility.

WEll see it never was weird to me. I know it is to those who didn't watch back then, but I watched it. So it never felt icky to me because I watched Doug's marriage to Addie. At first I hated them together but then they actually fell in love. It was heart breaking.

William J. Bell had such a way of writing that he even made you care for the alternate couple.

As much as I loved Doug & Julie and Bill & Laura, I equally loved Doug & Addie, Bill & Susan, and Mickey & Laura. They were all great couples.

And what else was so unique is that in all the relationships they did not include one person you could really hate. Most triangles today have the main couple being separated by an interloper that is conniving or you automatically hate. IN these stories there was not one.

You felt for all the interlopers in those stories: Don Craig, Mark Anderson, Scott Banning, Susan Martin, Addie Olson - they were all good characters and equally likable.

Boy do I miss those Days.

Well Pat Falken Smith and even Ann Marcus kept it going pretty good into the late 70's. Their triangles were still good and you did feel for the "third" party but none of the them really turned out to be great long term characters esp. the ones in the Don/Marlena romance.

Some of their best stuff I would say was the Neil/Greg/Amanda triangle in which Neil was supposed to be the "third" wheel but ended up being the best character even though early on he was often really bad with some of the things he did.

And they had a great young romance story with DAvid, Trish, Valerie, Michael, and Margot. There was not one character in that was "bad" - all were sympathetic. Of course you did have bad girl Brooke thrown in there but she was quickly escorted out of that story more into the Bob - Mary story.

The only thing they did was to speed things up a little more than with Bell. Their couples didn't have to wait 10 years to get together, but they kept the tradition that they didn't stay together happily. Of course some of them never got together but more so due to writer changes.

I guess that is one of the most frustrating things about the latter 70's is that people who loved David/Valerie, Mike/Trish, Don/Marlena, and Chris/Mary never got any fulfillment with the relationships. Only one of them married and they were quickly broken up and even though you waited for them to get back together later writers just didn't let it happen.

I thought her second stint was okay. I didn't enjoy it nearly - even in the same ball park as her first stint. I know some on here feel it was great, but I still see her 2nd stint as the root of what lead Days down the path that took it far away from what it was and the show that was created by Corday, Chase and Phillips.

She had some good things, but it seemed just like while she was away working for Gloria Monty that she forgot everything William J. Bell taught her.

    • Eeek. I didn't know this either! I will say, though, even though they skimmed over a lot of Roger's past, I will give them props for not trying to turn him into a hero. Yeah, I was hoping we would get more 1986 episodes than were available on YT before, but now I'm wondering if I really want to see that.
    • That's what Julie Hanan Carruthers is doing for BTG at the new studio in Atlanta, but JHC is credited. And @errol said JHC is working in a nonproduction capacity at Y&R.
    • I remember when the whole Missy Reeves controversy started in 2012.  She tweeted support of a business that had made homophobic statements. Greg Rikaart (who was on Y&R back then) publicly called her out on it, but was willing to reach out and speak with her. Article here: https://greginhollywood.com/greg-rikaart-talks-about-his-twitter-war-with-fellow-soap-star-melissa-reeves-over-anti-gay-chick-fil-a-73139 That being said, ten years later, on DAYS, in 2022, when they had they double wedding of Leo/CraigWesley and Gwen/Xander, Jack and Jennifer came to the wedding.  At that time, Missy Reeves was only intermittently available for DAYS. Jennifer was living "in Boston" and Cady McClain and Missy were each intermittently appearing as Jennifer, on the specific occasions when the show required a Jennifer to appear. Missy wasn't on contract and she could have said no. But she chose to appear as Jennifer for the gay wedding of Greg Rikaart's character.   So... I mean... I would assume they reached a détente behind-the-scenes. Missy still has her belief system but there's that.
    • That was one of the best grandslam finals.  Alcaraz comes all the way back down 2 sets to 0, and three match points in the 3rd set, to win it in a 5th set tie-break.  And the quality of play was excellent - so many great shots.  What a battle!
    • Indeed. I may try to watch it in full sometime, but not anytime soon... Mark played Sean Baxter for a few episodes when Courtney married Andy. Burke was either on Broadway or at OLTL at that time, I suppose.
    • Well, Josh was a horndog. LOL Yep. It was one of the first really weird things Reva did with her PPD. She became obsessed with the idea that Dylan and Sam should get married. Sam was only 17, and needed her parent's permission. Reva helped them leave town so they could go to a neighboring state where Sam was old enough. Ross, Billy and Josh stopped them, then Sam went to India to try and persaude Justin. Reva followed her and didn't tell Josh she was going. While Reva was gone, Josh advertised for nannies, and Harley applied. He ended up hiring someone else. But when Reva returned, she hired Harley because (in her weird mental state) she wanted someone she could trust with the kids (because she feared Josh was trying to get rid of her and that Vanessa wanted the children.). After Reva starts treatment, she asks Harley to stay until she's stronger because she's good with the kids. At the party, Reva starts going off the rails, insulting Justin and Josh hauls her to a private dining room to ask WTF. Reva starts confronting him about the "affair" with Vanessa, and he realizes she is weird. He locks her in the dining room and frees Mindy and Van from the ladies room (where Reva has locked them in). Van starts telling him that Reva attacked her and needs help.  Reva escapes out the window of the dining room and goes back to the party, climbs onto a table and starts a striptease. Josh gets her to stop, takes her home and after filling Ed in, decides to go to the doctor the next day. Reva then takes off and spends days running around town, coming on to a guy she thinks is Billy, Billy, Hamp, Frank and Roger.  Roger takes her to his apartment and takes nude pictures of her, which he tries to blackmail Billy with. He wants the deed to the land the Towers is on in exchange for them. (Billy had been left the deed by a sweet old lady who lost her home in the 5th street fire. Roger had stolen the deed from her before she died. After Roger took those pics of Reva, she saw him hide them, and took an envelope from the hiding place. She didn't realize she'd taken the deed and not the pictures.)  Anyway, Billy and Vanessa trick Roger into burning the pictures, claim the deed and at the Towers opening reveal that Billy owns the land and therefore the Towers. That's what led to Roger and Alex's breakup and Roger and Mindy's affair. Mark Lewis was on ATWT? 1986 is not a good year, storywise. No bueno. Muy no bueno.
    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
