The engagement party from Hell (kinda)

Let's begin, shall we?

The episode started with the juicy revelation that Vicky may not be carrying precious little Jamie's spawn, but her sister's husband's! My husband exclaimed - "I knew this! That's why the other one can't have children. I hate her! She is this show's Brooke!" to which I replied - "Come on now, she is not as bad as Brooke. Vicky is an angel compared to the plague that swept through Beverly Hills. "

In Felicia's home we had the all so annoying Donna Hudson, who I pray to God soon loses her husband... ambushing Felicia with her equally obnoxious daughter's fake wedding party who she wants to be held at Tops. Gallant of course declines, but Donna doesn't take "No" for an answer and reminds Felicia that Vicky owns the building! You can guess what happened next.

Then at the door appeared the woman that is plotting at least 10 lives to ruin - Iris Wheeler, still unhappy, still full of hatred for normal people, still unloved by her only child! Iris revealed to Felicia the picture above the article, based on her life. Parallel to this, we saw a hand  holding a medallion containing a similar picture of Felicia when she was young and comparing it with the picture in the magazine.

Evan offered Jason Frame a new contract so that he gets off Iris's back. Jason is milking the "Chief" thing till he can. And we also had Sharlene and John in somewhat of an awkward situation. John expressed hesitance in wanting to pursue the relationship with her. I saw that coming! But I'm rooting for them. They are the only two people that I want to see happy on this show!

So the time for that wicked engagement party came and everyone was acting like they are happy (deep down knowing this is a complete circus) and long and behold, just as Jamie was trying to think of something to say that would sound a bit truthful (because we all know he doesn't love Vicky)... a classic soap opera moment - Lisa came through the door of the restaurant and he saw her. Vicky did too. Freeze Frame. The end.

Overall - 10/10!!!!!!!!!

Favorite moment - not the final, but watching Iris make faces behind Felicia's back. Carmen Duncan is one hell of an actress. It is so hard to follow BM, but she is doing a wonderful job. My husband loves her too.

"Hey why don't you send Michael to Tops!"

I've often felt like AW used Denise Alexander the way GH had used her before deciding to give Lesley a strong backstory with Laura.  She was so popular on DAYS, but the other shows never understood that that doesn't mean diddly to their audiences if you don't give her a character to play.

The whole story (both what had happened years before, and what played out on screen) with Mary, Reginald and Vince was so convoluted.  I honestly don't know how AW fans survived through all of it, lol.

Wasn't there talk of him playing Sonny's relative (maybe brother) on GH, back in the early 2000s?  I think that was reported in a couple of soap magazines.  That would have been interesting casting.  Although I've always preferred less Sonny and more doctors on GH.

I don't know what he has been up to, but now the fans finally have some footage of what he looks like these days. Many folks have been curious about that for years.  Remember that photo that makes the rounds every year or so?  A guy that is clearly not Tom Eplin, but somehow got labeled as Tom online years ago?  So now there is a verifiable image of him in 2025.  Although the context is tragic.

    • A little too much focus on Chad and Cat today but I enjoyed the episode. I have a feeling that Jennifer’s gonna get dumped on though, even though I think that her anger is completely understandable and justified. And honestly, Ron is finally gone; Abigail can come back now.  But, welcome back, Anna! It was nice seeing Carrie have scenes with her mother. Christie Clark and Leann Hunley have never really had that many scenes together and to see them have them now is really nice. I’m glad that both of them were there to comfort Marlena too. Their words were definitely the thing that Marlena needed to hear. Btw, with all this talk of Noah, does it mean that he’s gonna be introduced soon? Amy, revealing that John changed her flat tire many years ago seemed a little random though. I would rather she have said something about how everybody in Salem knows of John Black because of how he was always such a hero. But at the same time, her story also showed what a great guy John was.  I liked Kate’s scenes with Philip too, and her promise to get back at Xander for what he did. And since we didn’t see JPL in the bed, did he need some time off or something? And yeah, everything involving ‘One Stormy Night’ still seems very Ron-like to me.
    • The second photo featuring the late John Spencer is from the Law & Order episode, "Prescription For Death", which was the (second) pilot/first episode all the way back in 1990! He played the father of a daughter that had gone to the ER for a mere sore throat but ended up dead because the doctor on call was drunk and had given her medication that she had an adverse reaction to, after receiving some other medication. So, he will always have that great distinction in addition to The West Wing. (The first pilot, "Everybody's Favorite Bagman", was filmed in 1988! The show was offered to CBS, but they passed. In syndication, it is oddly placed as the sixth episode of Season 1. And Roy Thinnes played DA Alfred Wentworth there. When NBC picked up the show two years later, Thinnes declined to return, and that's how we got Steven Hill's DA Adam Schiff.)
    • exactly. I can understand schadenfreude if it were real, but a lot of this is just an engineered distraction.
    • Days of our Lives S60E204 – Thursday, June 5, 2025 Okay, today’s episode was kind of boring. It was nice seeing Jack and Jen back, but they wasted an entire episode on Jen chatting with Julie - one scene would’ve been enough. Also, why didn’t Jack and Jen go comfort Marlena? And wouldn’t a flashback with Jack, Jen, and John have been great? Maybe something from the Cruise of Deception era? Bottom line - it feels like once John’s memorial is over and the returning fan favorites leave Salem… the show’s going to be dull again.
    • Everything with Elon and Trump is a stunt. If people, and the sycophantic press, are talking about their "feud," they are not talking about Republican plans to gut Medicare, Medicaid, and the ACA.
    • I can't fully remember, but I don't think they tried to get Beth Chamberlin back. I think Laibson/McTavish likely saw Beth as old news and wanted to move Philip on; either that or have her return only when Philip was closely tied to a new woman. Thanks as always for these recaps. I think I had stopped watching around this time and mostly kept up by reading in the soap magazines. Bridget's degradation was horrible to watch, as the character had grown so much over the years and was clearly regressed just to be a foil for a "hot" couple viewers had zero investment in.
    • Having the majority of the cast on those low numbers is no way to tell story. And just 2 dayplayers for the month. So sad for the #1 soap.
    • I believe it was. And this is actually one of the cases where I wouldn’t mind some dumb soap opera bringing back from the dead. They gave Mishael, Amanda, with all of Hilary’s connections but none of the personality except for fleeting moments. Hilary absolutely should’ve just left town. They decided to kill her and the baby. Just baffling,
    • That was Mal Young right? He thought a tragic death was a better option than crafting a story where Hilary leaves town. Was it a case of punishing someone who wants to leave? And then they have to jump through hoops to bring the actress back.
