Not sure if there is a way to verify, but I feel certain it was Sullivan.  That scene was written by Lemay, and Sullivan was already in the role when Lemay arrived.

It's her show, her memories and video. They were such a minuscule part of the video, and that was your main reaction? Not appreciation that we have this time capsule?  Her husband and her mother were huge AW supporters and of Linda Dano. Anyone who knows about Linda Dano's career and personal life knows what their deaths did to her, so to make that comment is rather heartless even on a soap opera thread.

The main way I can remember is because of Lemay criticizing Val Dufour for ruining Susan Sullivan's big moment (never mind that it was Dufour's last moment on the show).

Who was responsible for creating Victoria/Felicia/Cass/Donna/Marley? Was it Allen Potter? Is he responsible for creating the characters who lasted the longest post-Lemay?

Donna, Cass and Felicia arrived at the end of Rauch's run. The Pursers and Richard Culliton seem to be the writers involved (Culliton more for Vicky and Marley), although Corinne Jacker was still headwriter when Cass arrived.

Yes that was my main reaction.  I am aware of how close she was to her mother and her husband.  This is your reaction to my comment?  Completely overblown and shame on you for trying to say my comment is in anyway disrespectful to the grief Linda had after their deaths and is still living with.  If you are looking for an argument go after someone else.

Was anyone on here watching when Val Dufour was on Another World?  I’m curious if you think Walter was worth keeping or if you agree with Mr. Lemay that he had been written into a corner and killing him off was the best option.

Yes, I was watching occasionally while Val Dufour played Walter.  And I've had mixed feelings about Walter dying.  One one hand, Walter had been an important and fairly long-running character, and I believe for the most part he was liked by the viewers.  Walter was a versatile character also, in that he was mostly a good-guy, but was easily tempted to explore his negative side. And that allowed him to get into trouble, and be redeemed several times. In fact it was this negative side that allowed Walter to murder Wayne Addison -- something that required the character to pay for his sins one way or the other.   On the other hand, Walter had a tendency to be a bit boring.  And that got even worse when he was paired with Susan Sullivan who was very dynamic, and of course much younger. Seeing Dufour "married" to Sullivan was distracting, and imagining intimate scenes between the two was down right off-putting. Because of the storyline situation at the time, I'm not sure Dufour and Sullivan had any intimate (or even romantic) scenes, and that was probably just as well.  I do think Walter's death freed up Lenore for further and more interesting romantic situations.  And I don't think that would have happened had Walter remained alive, because the audience saw Lenore and Walter as end-game. Death was really the only acceptable way to break them up.  And when all is said and done, I don't think Walter's death harmed AW in any noticeable way.  Although I imagine it was shocking to long-term fans at the time.

The deaths of Steve Frame, Mary Matthews, and the firing of Jacquie Courtney harmed the show, in my opinion. But Walter's death simply did not have the same outcome.

Thank you!  I often thought this sounded like one of those times Lemay was correct but since I was not watching I could not be sure.  Lenore and Robert were brilliant so we were lucky to get to watch them shine and might not have had the opportunity if Walter was still around.

Thanks for the information. It was hard to determine who was headwriter so I was not sure and I always look for verification since this is a period I'm not familiar with. I wonder if viewers at the time would have had any idea that those characters would be the ones who would still be around at the end of the series.

Given how many came and went on AW in those years, I can't imagine so, especially Donna, who was initially just there to cause problems for Peter. I give credit to the actors but I suppose it was also writers and the viewers who were supportive. There was such a void in the show at the time that once they figured out how to write Cass and Felicia (not sure if it was Culliton or the Pursers), it was easy for them to become important to viewers. I'm glad the show did not get impatient and dump them too as had happened so many times.

That also seems to be when humor returned to the show, as so much I've seen of 79-82 is a misery, aside from Cecile being a camp bitch.

You are correct. Susan Sullivan was definitely playing Lenore by the time Walter Curtin died.

The scene with Lenore being so traumatized by the whole Walter debacle that she went berserk and tore apart her living room was chilling!

    • I have long given up on logic and Mayor Laura Collins! It makes about as much sense as Luke being elected mayor over Lee Baldwin in the 80’s, maybe even less sense. She committed manslaughter as a teenager, was involved with a mobster (I guess credit for them taking Smith down), had a shoot out in her home and killed another mobster in self defense, thought she bludgeoned her stepfather to death, then was catatonic for years. Her current husband had a twin that was a serial killer, had his own breakdown that threatened lives, and most recently hid his brother for treatment and that allowed Ryan to escape and kill again. And had hook killer Esme as a houseguest and is raising her child. I don’t care for Sonny anymore but their relationship is just another thing that involves suspension of belief to watch the show. I wish someone on this show would remind these adults that they used to pull way worse stuff than this! I would love a scene where Laura is sitting with Lulu and tells her while she is not happy this is nothing compared to what she got up to when she was young, and maybe even some understanding that she would also do stupid stuff if she believed in the cause. Olivia reminding Dante that he was wild as a teen and this isn’t that. Felicia reminding Anna that they were being shot at when pretty close to Emma’s age. These characterizations are just so basic. Have some fun with the actual history of the show. That kind of wink would mean more to me than just name dropping some random fact.
    • There are no dumb questions here, we've all known each other long enough to fill in information without shaming each other.  We want you to be happy @carolineg.  Your POV as one of the few women here is vital. So, please, I hope you never feel as if any question, idea, or opinion is ever silly or stupid.  Your daily reminders about the realities of manicure and menstrual management has become a part of the personality of this thread. As for Hank, while I'm confident there's a plan in place.  It is frustrating that they announce these casting so far in advance that it is tough as an audience and wait it out until the thing happens.  I'm happy they didn't blow it the second Mike was in town, a week after meeting Liam. So, it is a slow burn.
    • I think his full name is Chadwick.  I remember, back when the previous actor was playing him, someone called him Chadwick a couple of times.  It may have been Stefano.
    • I didn't like those two sleeping together, but I suuure liked seeing BF in them. Wiggle and all. Just sad about the waxing of the chest.   Same.
    • It’s strange. I wonder if the writers at that time had worked with him somewhere else and had a relationship? That time is murky AF to find info on. Rachel Ames in effect left the show at one point in the early 80’s and she is credited like she was there until JFP. Tristan Rogers also took various contract breaks that were not short, and websites also credit him one long stint from 1981-1992. So many people come and go in short succession in 1982-part of 1983. I know they lost a lot of viewers when Genie left, but the show somehow survived yearly at number one through like sheer force of will.
    • In that way, at least we were fortunate.  The Daniel Pilon/Ron Raines decisions...not so much.
    • Letting Brennan put it in yet again while smirking over his shoulder... any day now! She's got him just where she wants him! I do think ol' Jack will be dead by February at the absolute latest. They have set him up as a counter-heavy to Sidwell, forcing poor Joss to work his next scheme or threatening to have her sent down for treason. Once he croaks I still deeply fear we will be subject to Valentin and Carly, partners in crime to lovers, possibly out to find out 'who killed Jack'. Anna was at her best keeping Sonny at arm's length and often somewhat cold, which she only really did (for better or worse) off and on during Carlivati's tenure. But Finola gradually got too emotional over Sonny, Jason, etc. and was allowed to do that onscreen too much long ago. Mulcahey brought some of that steel back, though Finola still managed to choke or quietly sob through some of that material as Anna found her way there lol. She's a brilliant actress and she did a good job with that stuff in '24, but now we're back to the same old and it humiliates the character whether she knows it or not.
    • Listen, I am all for Laura Wright wearing silly wigs and glasses if there was a point.  So far she's just been nice to Brennan and made out with him.  How evil lol!!  Even though I have been told Brennan loves her the writing was never there.  It's so low stakes.  Carly should maybe talk to her daughter and have an adult conversation instead. Laura and Anna look foolish.  I really don't have an issue with either being friendly or at least having some affection for Sonny.  I don't get both of them wanting to have a parade to announce how much they love him and how valuable the friendship is.  C'mon, Laura basically tolerated Sonny because of Luke until Lulu/Dante got together.  Anna likes Sonny because Robin did?  There really isn't much more of a reason for Anna to give him the time of day besides that.  They aren't lifelong buddies.
