Well, it sounds like they cast an accomplished actress, so points for that, although I figure the first time any actor does daytime they probably experience culture shock!

At the conclusion of that storyline I was amazed at how close to death Mac seemed. Also that's the point where Mitch Blake is totally confusing to me. When he does that 180 & goes from helping Janice poison Mac to helping Rachel get Mac to some emergency healthcare it gives me whiplash!!!

Yes, I watched Carole Shelley's entire run as Iris.  Ms Shelley was an amazing and accomplished actress.  And one can see how hard she worked to inhabit the character of Iris -- it is obvious in every moment. She is mannered and precise. That video made me cringe. There is no way I would ever see this woman as Iris. She gives such a different vibe that is not at all appropriate for the role. ESPECIALLY after we've had the previous Iris to remember as an image. She is the absolute opposite in demeanor.  Whoever cast her in the role... must have had a sense of humor while BM was recovering. 🤣

Okay, Mona. Thanks for replying & for the fan review. Instantly I felt myself pulling back. She did not look like Iris. Then when she began to speak I pulled even further away. The short clip seemed interminable.

I pulled away from this clip so much... I ended up in the kitchen... in a whole other room.  🤣

Pulling back is exactly the right term. So thanks for that. I found myself pulling back every day during Shelley's short run on AW.  But I don't blame Ms Shelley.

Yeah, she was a trained, experienced actor trying to do a job. I won't be taking any potshots. I've always thought temp recast was a pretty thankless position. 

There is another scene during Shelley's run as Iris, in which she makes a few comments about Pat Randolph.  Shelley delivers the lines as if Pat is almost a stranger to Iris, even though the two characters had been acquainted for nearly five-years.  McKenzie would have delivered those same lines entirely differently.  

Even experienced actors have bad moments, guys. Especially if they are miscast. The overacting in this scene is laugh-inducing. Gives me Faye Dunaway, when she is badly directed-vibes. If I watch it one more time... I will start liking it just for the camp aspect of it... so... I'll turn it off.  No need to punish my senses. 

I can imagine it would be hard for anyone to come in to the role of Iris and do it justice especially at the end of such a storyline. She may have been directed to act in that way. As someone who grew up with Carmen Duncan as *the* Iris, it took me some adjustments getting used to Beverlee McKinsey clips as Iris. I was like, "Who is this woman?" at first.

That strikes me as awfully funny! Beverlee McKinsey iconic, character  she lived & breathed, but your thought, naturally for you. is who is that woman?!!
