I've enjoyed most of the past few episodes (I'll block out the Mallet/Marina making out and shirt lifting).

It's kind of weird how all the women in Reva's life are gone. I hope we at least hear some mention of Marah and Cassie.

I'm always surprised when Matt shows up.

I loved that they had Edmund with Reva and trying to keep her rational when she was in labor. I'm sorry we are going back to "bad Edmund", because I always prefer grey Edmund.

Crystal Chappell has been breaking my heart every day she's on. What an actress. The conversation with the nun and her reactions at the party, her conversation with Buzz, they were all such wonderful soap moments.

If CBS aired Friday's episode of GL with the intent of making me understand why they cancelled this show and to make me hate Ellen Wheeler, David Kreizman, and every other moron who had a hand in turning The Grande Dame of daytime into an abominable laughing-stock, then congrats they succeeded! It was heinous on every single level.

It sucked. It was one enormous vortex of unmitigated suckage. No Phillip, Olivia, or Natalia. Instead we had:

SlobberingReva crying all over the baby she just had with the woman hating, shriveled, eyeliner-wearing serial rapist.

4-0320.jpg

Josh & Billy were stuck at the edge of the story doing absolutely nothing. They've gotten pretty good at that. I can't even remember the last time either of them had anything to do.

4-031.jpg4-032.jpg

Hawk was there.

4-0311.jpg

Josh & Reva did have a sweet little moment and this show would be so much more bearable if they'd just have Jeffrey fall off a cliff, retro-write the baby as Josh's, and reunite them already.

4-0312.jpg4-0313.jpg

Dinah, Mel, Doris, and various others were trapped in the ridiculous Jack-In-The-Box courtroom when Dinah sued herself for her part in Lizzie's kidnapping. Ashlee was taping the asinine proceedings for WSPR, although I can't imagine why.

4-034.jpg4-035.jpg

The whole painful scenario was beyond pathetic, right down to the big check Dinah showed herself giving to the town for pain and suffering.

4-039.jpg4-0310.jpg

Equally pathetic and painful was having to watch Daisy and Christina discussing their love lives with Grady and Remy.

4-037.jpg4-038.jpg

Oh goody, it's a hideous Grady look-a-alike, just what I needed to get me through the weekend! Does anyone and I mean anyone on earth actually want to watch Daisy, Ashlee, and Christina do anything much less sit around a tacky dive bar drinking and acting like even bigger idiots than they usually are?

4-0322.jpg4-0323.jpg

I can't take anymore Reva-slobber! We've suffered through so much of it already and it just never stops! Screw chemo, I'm ready to kill her myself just to shut her up!

4-0318.jpg4-0319.jpg

Dinah then confronted Edmund over his telling Shayne that Lara, the chick nobody knew existed or cares about, was pregnant when she died, in what looks like some dank cafeteria.

4-0314.jpg

She then headed over to Shayne's broomcloset for a talk and then they started kissing and undressing each other. Today's camera operator clearly has quite a future ahead of them in amateur porn.

4-0317.jpg4-0321.jpg

OMG, there she f***ing goes again!

4-0324.jpg

Wow, has any man ever looked more clueless and ambivalent while holding a baby? Ever?!

4-0325.jpg

Next week on Guiding Light

Alan will be going through garbage bags while smoking a stogie.

4-0326.jpg

It's Phillip & Beth's turn to be trapped in the Jack-in-the-Box courthouse.

4-0327.jpg

Bill & Lizzie are still acting like morons who don't know each other. He asks her out on a third date and she informs him that a third date means sex. Really? Just like that, automatically? No wonder you've ended up with nothing but losers who show you no respect, Lizzie.

4-0328.jpg4-0329.jpg

Josh asks Roc Hoover to get rid of Edmund, again. Yeah, cause that worked out so well last time. BTW, lose the shades Josh, you look like an idiot.

4-0331.jpg4-0330.jpg

Daisy and....drum roll...RealGrady's back! Pardon me while I go vomit.

Of all the places for Shayne and Dinah to have sex, his room really? That ridculously small space that it doesn't even look like you can turn around in? I suppose it's better than the floor of a garage like Cassie and Cyrus. The worst thing about this format is that it makes the love scenes look like porn. I wish they would adjust the lighting or hell move it to that gigantic room of Dinah's rather than Shayne's closet.

Having said that, GT and JB have fab chem. The "Dinah sues herself" stuff was silly but GT was pretty funny trying to convince the judge to up Dinah's fine.

Thank God that birth is over. I've had more Jeffrey than I can take.

Christina blaming Remy was ridiculous, but the jackass of the day award yet again goes to Mallet who has become the world's biggest tool in record time. He proves to me everyday how utterly useless he is outside of Dinah's orbit.

His comment yesterday "Shouldn't she have to pay for helping with a kidnapping?" I don't know [!@#$%^&*], shouldn't you have to pay for being a hitman/murderer and your basically stolen black market baby?

Grey Edmund was a real treat while it lasted. Watching him in scenes with Reva as she was going into labor were truly refreshing. I had only wished they had Edmund mention a time that the viewers remember when he was truly afraid. Never Edmund? Really? How about that stroke you had on the island that shall never be named again? Or when Carmen or whoever nearly sent you into the lake? No, but instead they had to mention Edmund meeting Lara, which we didn't get to see. Lazy storytelling at it's best folks.

I'm going to truly miss GL when it finally goes off the air, but thinking back, we're only down to missing the characters who made the show so unique. There's no more Bauer BBQ's, sweeping scores and theme music, nor special Christmas Closing credits. None of that which made Guiding Light so special to me. I've realized that for me, that GL disappeared years ago.

Caught up to last Friday's episode and:

Father Ray!

Olivia's toast was amazing. The glass dropping when she was about to confess her love, and then her changing her mind after seeing Frank's reaction, was classic soap.

I thought everything Reva's giving birth was great, particularly Edmund being the one driving her to the hospital and being there with her while they waited for Jeffrey. It was also good to see Josh go there, but leave, and then come back. Josh's scene with Matt was right-on too where Josh said it felt great to be without responsibility and Matt said it sounded miserable. And it was good to see Hawk there. Colin was a great name to choose.

I enjoyed the Daisy/Christina bonding. It is good to see Christina interacting with more characters. I loved when Christina said she doesn't think of herself as fun. Christina is such a fresh, exciting addition to GL.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks the show will be back to "bad Edmund" -- is this a spoiler?

Edmund finally telling Shayne about the baby, and Shayne's reaction later with Dinah, was interesting -- I expected him to be more upset that she didn't tell him earlier.

It was good to see the show showing how overwhelming the daily life of having a baby is for Marina and Mallet. None of this ATWT business where Meg carries on as usual and leaves her all the time until the "big plot event" where OMG the baby is taken away OMG OMG.

I am relieved and actually overjoyed that Grady is still alive as it means that Phillip is not a murderer (although what Phillip did was still very very wrong and he still *thinks* he killed Grady). My reaction upon seeing Grady in the preview was "OMG Grady!" This doesn't mean I want him back on the show, though! Hopefully Daisy and Grady will meet and have a proper goodbye and that's that.

Dinah's civil suit against herself was ridiculous like the judge said, but I was okay with it as it provided closure to the story. That is, unless Lizzie and Bill end up upset about it and consider it grandstanding, which I could see them doing.

This week so far has been good. Among other things, I have liked:

- Blake becoming manager at Company. Stroke of writing genius! Now we'll see more of her.

- Bill and Dinah's conversation (he *was* upset/unimpressed, and Dinah acknowledged what she did was just for her)

- Reva seeing baby Colin on webcam

- Shayne defending Edmund to Josh

- Edmund had a scene with Beth

- The awkward Spaulding dinner, especially because Olivia and Emma were there adding a new ingredient to the mix. Alan asking everyone to take the money, Hilda hesitating and taking the money.

What I didn't like:

- Alan bribing the judge. Maybe I am naive, but I think it was too obvious of a bribe and no real-life judge would have taken it.

I like the game of one up manship between Phillip and Alan, but agree that Alan bribing the judge was not one of my most favorite moments. However, I've realized that this always happens on GL and the writers use it as a lazy way out.

Loved Lizzie's reaction tho.

Alan offering the money and Hilda taking it was hilarious. I like Hilda. They should hook up Hilda with Doris.

Today, Bill and Lizzie was liable for me. Show is getting better and I'm just loving all the Phillip and Beth stuff.

I liked Lizzie's reaction too.

Hook up Hilda and Doris? LOL.

Halfway through today's (Wednesday's) episode right now and I feel cheated that Grady was in Daisy's head! I guess I fell for the misleading preview trick. He needs to be alive, dammit! But I'm glad I'm spoiler-free so that his being just a vision was a surprise to me.

It's nice to get a first look at who I assume to be James at last. I'm liking him so far.

Just wanted to pop in and say how much I'm loving the show... although Otalia is going to be the death of me!!

I've been working overtime on efforts to save the show... and while I'm taking the time to enjoy what we are getting now.. haven't had a lot of time to post on what's happening on it. I noticed this thread hasn't gotten a lot of responses.. but the show is really good!

Grady doesn't need to be alive, he's one of the worst characters GL has had in recent memory.

Today's show was fairly ho-hum IMO. This game that Bill and Lizzie are playing of "pretend we don't know each other and we just started dating" is stupid now, it was cute for about two days, now it's just annoying.

I'm really surprised at how much I liked Christina and Remy today.

I could have done without Daisy, Ashlee, and Mallet today.

Everyday it just becomes clearer to me how much more interesting the Spauldings are than the Coopers

I know its only one day but I was impressed with Zach Conroy's James Spaulding today. The Alan/Phillip battle is always fun to watch.

    • Marland was long gone by this point.  He quit in either August/September 1982. I think it was due to letting the actress play out her contract and use her for party scenes and/or scenes with Phillip/Justin.   I was surprised she was still on in June 1983 myself, because I figured she had been written out before Pam Long joined the writing staff. Thankfully, having episodes uploaded during this period on Spauldingfield YT site has helped to connect some of the dots.  It looks as though Pam Long starts the first week or so of May 1983.. and in those first few weeks: Morgan and Evie were both written off and Lillian/Mindy/Billy/Beth/Annabelle all come onto the show.

His scenes with Holly were nice though. They’re sweet together and I understand why some people think that they have more chemistry than Tate/Holly do. And I liked that Doug III opened up to her about his past. Maybe that could lead to something good happening in the future.  I also enjoyed Roman and Kate, and how they’re both being tied into EJ’s shooting. The mystery of it all is really compelling. I don’t think Roman is the shooter though either.  I didn’t have much sympathy for Kristen though. She has no one to blame for Rachel’s problems than herself. But at the same time, I’m really surprised that Days actually remembered the Alex/Kristen fling. I thought Ron had erased that from existence. I’m not shipping them at all, but I’m definitely shipping a permanent end to Brady/Kristen but after today, I’m not so sure about that either.  And, Johnny and Chanel were still great together

    • Some country club revelation thoughts from a casual watcher no one asked for. The Great: Daphnee Duplaix gave the best performance we've seen yet. Nicole's dialogue was also well thought out and felt character specific. TJ Maxx Ted was also pretty good. Trisha Mann-Grant steals every scene she's in. Often without even trying. Carrying multiple episodes worth of exposition heavy soap dialogue with starts and stops and recapping and drama and humor is no small feat and she nailed. Vernon telling Lesliana to STFU.  The Bad: So much of the dialogue for the rest of the cast was overly written. Martin said "You are a vile human being with a hole in your heart!". Marty, what are we doing? It's SO dramatic and sounds so silly coming from this grown man. Do Bill and Hayley do anything but talk about the Duprees? And the nerve of her to get so excited to find out Ted is a cheater when she and her husband are too. There should be a hint of shame mixed in with your glee, ma'am. The Questionable: Coffee and a rendition of Amazing Grace after finding out Nicole was betrayed by her husband. The Duprees are an odd bunch. The stinger of one segment had Anita prepared to lambast Lesliana, when we came back someone else was talking. When Anita eventually said something to Wig, it was a lukewarm at best. And then of course she thought singing a song about something that should absolutely not be extended to her son-in-law. The entire family allowing this deranged woman to speech at them in their own was...nuts. I know she said something about what would the neighbors say but my GOD. Is she just going to be allowed to trespass whenever she feels like it now? The focus on Leslie and her wig usage as an oddity is...odd. I think Chelsea said something like "and she wears wigs!" (while wearing a buss down middle part). Okay? It's just not that odd for a black woman to change up her hair. It's the different names that's the problem. I know it's meant to be humorous, in a throwback soap kind of way, but it fell flat for me.  I'm sorry I find the whole family to be WEIRD. It's like they want us to see them as ruthless yet benevolent, open yet furtive, snobbish yet tooth achingly sweet all at the same time. I cannot get a lock on the family dynamics. Everyone is just there.  I'm gonna cry if this show doesn't start giving us ages (or close to it!) for these characters. Because if Eva is 21-22 then Martin was being given crayons, a soda pop and blinders when he was 15-17 years old. Martin had to have been under 8 for me to buy this story, which would make Eva and Kat late 20s (Martin is at least 35 since he wants to run for president), which I don't think they're meant to be. It's honestly minor but it bothers me. I've mentioned this to @Vee but I think the optics on opening the show with both sisters discovering their husbands of over 30 years are cheaters should've been considered. I doubt there was any intention behind it, no one's rubbing their hands together as they scheme to say the married black men can't stay loyal but how does it look? Maybe it's just me. Honestly it's probably just me!
    • Thank you very much!!!! I really appreciate it!!! I also have read the GH coffee table book from the 90s!!!
