I read somewhere that this show has lesbian peeps. What's the deal-eo?

Emmerdale had a lesbian character, Zoe Tate, for many years. She came on the show in 1988 as part of the rich Tate clan, and then around 1992 or 1993 they made her a lesbian. She continued on the show in various short-lived relationships (including one where she had sex with a man during one of her schizophrenic episodes, which led to the birth of her daughter Jean) until she left in 2005. By then her entire family had been killed off, aside from her daughter and young nephew. She had a shock ending because when she left, she blew up part of the mansion that she'd lived in, that the new rich clan had stolen from her. Of the little bit I've seen of her, my favorite story was when she had a passionate affair with her brother's grifter, scheming girlfriend, Chastity Dingle. Chastity, BTW, is the mother of Debbie Dingle.

Debbie Dingle and Jasmine Thomas are more bisexual than lesbian. Debbie was just coming off a bad 2005 where she had a baby by her older ex-boyfriend and gave the child away. She met shy Jasmine, who was the vicar's niece. They both felt cut off from the world and both had parents who'd never really cared about them. They became very close friends. One day, Jasmine kissed Debbie, and soon they were in love. Debbie's father, Cain, broke up the relationship by seducing Jasmine. Jasmine got pregnant, and to pay her father back, Debbie convinced Jasmine to abort the child.

Debbie and Jasmine fell out for about a year, but were friends again by 2007. In 2008 they grew closer again when Jasmine started dating a cop Debbie thought was crooked. Eventually he tried to rape Jasmine, and Debbie broke through his front door and knocked him out. A few minutes later he woke up and grabbed Debbie, and a traumatized Jasmine beat him to death with a chair leg. Debbie called her cousin Eli and they covered up the crime. The secret went on for about a month until the body was found and an innocent man was accused. Jasmine wanted to turn herself in, but Debbie told her she couldn't live without her, and they kissed. They continued to have this type of relationship (the show never said if they went beyond kissing) until Eli was arrested and pointed the finger at them. They planned to run away, but Debbie was caught. Jasmine got away. She's supposed to be back soon, to wrap up some of the story before the actress leaves for a long break.

Emmerdale is also burying their longest-running cast member, Clive Hornby, this week. Jack Sugden was the central character from the first episode, as he came home for his estranged father's funeral and was drawn back into working on the family farm. The original Jack, Andrew Burt, left in 1976. Clive took over in 1980 and remained until he had to leave the show due to health issues in early 2008. He was planning to return if he recovered, but sadly he passed away in July. Original cast member Sheila Mercer, who played Jack's mother Annie Sugden, is returning.
