Senator Susan Collins, Republican of Maine, said in a statement that Gaetz ‘has put country first’ by withdrawing, adding that it was ‘the best decision that Mr. Gaetz could have made.’”

and the best decision for her. she may have talked a good game, but push come to shove, would she have actually voted against him? we’ll never know and i’m sure she’s heaving a huge sign of relief.

make of this what you will.

the headline on both the huffpost and ny times read:

”gaetz pulls out.”

but some spoilsport at the times changed it to “gaetz withdraws.”

i found this both amusing and illuminating.

Of course! Who didn't see squeezing poor people would be their #1 goal.

Gaetz didn't want any part of the scrutiny that was coming his way.

I'd advise y'all not to pay attention to whom Trump appoints to his administration.  We KNOW he's not going to pick the best and the brightest, lol.

I really haven't tbh. So I find it eye-rolling that the news media is making such a show of each and every appointment he makes. They couldn't even get all the news out there pre-election or focus on actual issues, but we need to know every time The Orange One appoints a new idiot?

Just a circus and they should have ashamed.

I guess the usual suspects are going to be outraged that President Biden pardoned his son Hunter after previously saying that he wasn't.

Probably. There was a time, somewhere around 2015 when I would have considered this immoral. Now, I don't care. After everything Biden has been through and everything Trump has done (including pardoning Ivanka's father in law) I just can't get upset about it. Norms have been shattered and will continue to be shattered for the foreseeable future.

Frankly, when I read that Joe Biden had pardoned his son, I cackled.  Like you said, @Juliajms, there was a time when I might have questioned his actions.  Now, however, I'm just praying Biden can keep this going until Inauguration Day.  (Go 'head, Joe, forgive all student debts on your way out, lol!)

Glad Joe pardoned Hunter as his trial was a political hatchet job. If he were Hunter Jones, he would have just paid a fine and called it a day.

And, as pointed out, all the screeching on the right over this turns to radio silence as their cult leader pardons actual scummy criminals. Let 'em cope.

Who cares?

No one, really.  But it is nice to see Joe Biden thumb his nose a little at the GOP on his way out the door.  #smallvictory

Good for him! I am with Joe!

This time, let's not allow ourselves to be distracted by cultural debates. Let's remember that an assassin was able to make a ghost gun, on his 3d printer, at home, because the GOP refused to regulate the practice. Regardless of motive, that feels totally preventable.
