 The upside is that from what I hear, people are ready to fight and I do believe they will fight for VP. I hope this animosity will resolve itself quickly. We can talk about settling scores later.

It's Trump. He's had constant and at times glowing media coverage for 40 years or more. He's also hollow to the point where many on the left and the right can make him what they want him to be. He's worshiped as a god by millions of people. He's the strongest candidate Republicans could have run in 2016, 2020, or 2024. Beating him will be extremely difficult.

All I can say is, Joe Biden is a far better man than I am, because if I were in his shoes right now?  And I was being forced by a bunch of turncoats to give up on an election that I KNEW I could win?  This would be my reaction:

He was the strongest in 2016. Trump in 2024 is not the same. I saw that man at the RNC the other night. Kamala Harris couldn't have beaten him in 2016, and probably not in 2020. She can now.

I definitely agree he is incredibly diminished from where he was 8 year ago, or even 4 years ago. I am just not sure it matters to those who are going to support him, especially now that we are going to have 24/7 racism and misogyny (two things this country loves). I certainly know she is going to do what she can, and I do think Biden was right to drop out. It was an agonizing decision, but ultimately the only one left.

The issue is that he doesn't have enough of that support. He hasn't since 2016, it keeps bleeding off.

Can he muster enough back to beat a Black woman is the question. That I don't know. I think we have even odds but I agree it's going to be a harder push than it would've a month ago. I also frankly think Trump is unprepared to run against Kamala.

Everything aside, my heart still breaks that Joe was pushed to do this. Just couple of days ago he was telling all of us that only God himself could make him do this. I think it's perfectly human and normal to feel devastated after someone you believed to be the right choice is now GONE. I am not ready to start shouting anyone else's name yet. Just not now. I am not that fast, I can't process and move on so quickly. I may be tomorrow, or next week, but not tonight. Tonight, I want to mourn the missed opportunity and the dreams that President Biden made me believe he can achieve. I hope we can all respect each-other's way of processing this. I... really in my deepest of hearts believed him when he said that only God could make him turn away. And maybe God did, who knows. I wish Kamala a lot of strength and may God be with her and help her win this for all of us.

He has lost a chunk of support since 2016. It's more all the rise in support for the right and their ugliness, as shown with younger men through the appeal of people like Tate, that makes me wary about how much more support he's picked up. And so many who, with help from the media, have rewritten his Presidency into being peace and prosperity. 

Hopefully Kamala can get through. And hopefully they will make a strong choice for VP - yes, it likely has to be a white man, probably from the South (maybe the Rust Belt, but not Shapiro, not in today's climate), but they have to pick someone who won't just be an accent or a "telegenic" face. JD Vance is so wretched and hideous I need to see someone wipe the floor with him. 

Regarding Obama and Pelosi not endorsing Harris, I would guess they feel they have no choice but to go along with an open convention, probably due to donors. I think they would still support Harris, but I do wonder if some of those donors or Carville (I can't see him caring for her) will try to interfere.

Some of the ideas, like Aaron Sorkin trying to get them to nominate Romney for President, are so out of touch.

I think we're going to at least get the pretense of one to fight accusations of her being handed the nomination. I don't think they would want to allow for a truly open situation though.

I cannot believe that this is happening.

I cannot believe that we have become so heartless toward the elderly that we have forced an otherwise healthy, sane and competent man (who just happens to be of a certain age) to give up running for re-election, simply because he had one bad night on TV.

I know we Americans have short memories, but dear! God!

Compare where we are now to where we were when Biden took office - at 79 years old! - and then say again why you think keeping a(n allegedly) declining Biden in the WH would be just as bad or worse for us than another four years of Donald. [!@#$%^&*]. Trump, who is also declining, but who is also a convicted felon and known rapist, too.

I know that (polls be damned) Biden would have handed him his ass again, for a number of reasons. Just as I know that if we mess up AGAIN and allow Trump to become president AGAIN, we can kiss goodbye whatever remains of our already fragile democracy.

But, I don't know. Maybe that is what we deserve.

Maybe, in the end, we deserve to have our remaining liberties robbed from us, if only to remind ourselves - or, at least, those of us who still think the past eight or so years have been just business as usual - that there is a reason why we have fought all the wars we have fought, and marched in all the streets we have marched in, and sacrificed everything we have sacrificed; and that it was because we never wanted our country to see a day like today.
