The Politico article @Vee posted a link to is one I read earlier today. It spends a little too much time reminding us of this or that principled Republican, but there are a lot of interesting passages. This one hits on something I've always wondered about - how the true believers would feel about someone like Steve Bannon.

Members of the Freedom Caucus realized right away that there would be no negotiating. Pence tried to pump up the conservatives, telling them the fight was theirs to win and that they needed to help Trump and Ryan score a victory for the new administration. The plea landed on deaf ears. "Take one for the team" was a phrase repeatedly deployed; at one point, after Bannon used it, Joe Barton, a white-haired conservative from Texas, snapped back in response that Bannon was talking to them like children and he didn't appreciate it. The room filled with uncomfortable silence; Bannon backed down and the meeting went on. (Barton eventually announced his support for the legislation—one of only a few who would eventually switch positions.) After several hours, the members returned to the Capitol feeling frustrated, calling the meeting "a waste of time" and wondering if they had missed their only window for cutting a deal with Trump.

Meanwhile Trump plays golf for 4 and 1/2 hours at his club in Virginia after apparently telling the White House press pool that he had "work" to do.

Also, the Secret Service asked for a raise (to their allotted budget) because they can't afford Trump and his family.

“You know, the last time someone ordered me to something, I was 18 years old,” one of the members reportedly told Bannon. “And it was my daddy. And I didn’t listen to him, either.”

Remember he did all he could do and after all that negotiating and winning, he's earned golf time.

Flynnspiracy is getting even stranger with a report that he planned to kidnap a green card holder for a Turkish sponsor.

I tell you I'm waiting to hear that Melania is behind some of this and she duped Trump somehow (not really, but I wouldn't be surprised if she gets thrown under for cash considerations and a divorce).

While it's still March 25th, in "the universe loves a cruel cosmic joke" news, today is Gloria Steinem's birthday...and Anita Bryant's birthday, too (yes, she's still alive--she's actually six years younger than Gloria). I just find it hilarious and weird that these two iconic, diametrically opposite women actually share the same birthday.

I could watch this clip forever. I wonder if Anita still enjoys eating pie.  Even better? This wasn't in a so-called godless heathen city like New York or LA. This was in little, All-American Des Moines, Iowa (where I once lived, for the record). Pied by a gay protester in Middle America. I love it.

I will say this, though: When I went to the Women's March in DC in January, and got to hear Gloria speak up close, that was such an incredible moment. I wasn't anywhere near the stage, or one of the Jumbotrons, and at times it was hard to hear her over the crowd, but I don't care. I still got to hear her speak in person.

We posted the David Frum piece from The Atlantic the other day, right, the one looking back on the ACA passage in '10 and telling the GOP they need to give up on it for good? Even for someone who disagrees with Frum on so many things it was an incredible piece of writing.

    • Today was a short one. Only 33 minutes.  The ‘Part One’ graphic at the beginning was pretty interesting though. I didn’t expect them to do something like that.  I like how everything was focused around John and his family and friends. Again, the acting and the dialogue was very well done and well written. And I love that they were able to incorporate Drake’s, “swing for the fences” phrase into the script. It was nice seeing everyone interact with each other, especially characters who don’t often share scenes together. It felt like every character was part of a big family or community. Plus, an outdoor funeral in June makes a lot more sense than an outdoor funeral in December.  But yeah, it’s very, very strange that Will isn’t at the funeral, especially since we know that

I would much rather he had been there today. And, where’s Anna too? And Jack and Jennifer? What was the point of bringing them all back if they weren’t going to attend the funeral? I expected Steve to want to close down BlackPatch, though I’d rather he just retire and let Paul take it over. But I like that Kayla was there to comfort him. I wonder if he’s going to change his mind at some point.  It was nice seeing Shane again too. Now, he just needs to have more scenes with his son lol but I enjoyed seeing him comfort Marlena. I’m not really sure about his interaction with Cat though? Was it really necessary for this to happen now, at John’s funeral? They could’ve waited a little longer to introduce this story arc.  Btw, was Tate bleeding from his head in his first scene with Arianna?

    • This is wonderful! Thank you for posting this! I loved the first two seasons and never got to see the final season when they cancelled the DVD release. I've been hoping this popped up on streaming but no luck. Happy I'll finally get to see how it ended!

    • In case it is of interest to anyone here, I have digital copies (computer files, mp4 etc.) of all of the episodes. And, besides having the files they are all up on my usual video hosting site, acct name: shallotpeel, channel it is in: Primetime Soaps and file names like  Flamingo Road S1E15 Hurricane Flamingo Road was a primetime soap on NBC by Lorimar Productions. 2 seasons. 1980-1982. Morgan Fairchild, Barbara Rush. Developed by Rita Lakin.
    • Arguably DAYS OF OUR LIVES has been brilliant lately & definitely was last week. But, here I am with nitpick & technicalities. This was the only misstep but it was just a stupid thing that should have been caught. Deidre Hall as Marlena has this one problematic line, "It didn't matter how many identities you had, I always knew exactly who you were, you were the man who saved my life." - Marlena, DAYS, 6-2-25 Unfortunately the flashback closest to it was when Marlena was on the phone, terrified because she thought he was Stefano. Yes, it's true that the line is not accurate. There were many times when she did not feel the way she is claiming because of whatever was going on in story with his 'retconned to hell & back' identity & origin story. Does it keep the whole week from being called excellent? Nope.

Newsom is a craven opportunist, but his comments today were exactly how better people need to handle Trump.
