Days: Could the Dee/Drake Firings Be another Ploy....????????

I just posted this over at my site SoapsWeb too.

****************************************************

I have been thinking about something since reading more and more of the interviews esp. Corday's words.

I am just wondering if the firings of Hall & Hogestyn is not just another Days ploy - this time not just executed on the fans but also on the other Days actors. He did say that the ones who didn't take the paycuts he would recast and stuff like that. And they are playing hardball over there making Jay come back to work even after he halted negotiations and cleaned out his dressing room.

Could Corday just be firing Hall & Hogestyn to make the other actors tow the line as they go into negotiations. They go in thinking well I am not as big of a name as Deidre Hall - what the hell can I bargain with. So they just take the paycut without fighting?

After he talks with all of them and gets them to sign and he sees how much money he saved - then boom Hall & Hogestyn are rehired at a cheaper price too.

I honestly don't think it is a ploy this time to get fans to tune in. The last time with Drake was that.

I honestly think this time it is just a scare tactic to make the other actors scared and take whatever is offered. I think he fired his two biggest ones first and then talked to the others just to show that he would fire anyone and none of them were safe.

So wait....I'm the *only* one who thinks that the both of them will be back (or at least will be offered to come back) by the end of 2009? Unless DAYS really, truly, really is in the shitter much, much worse than it's ever been, of course, but I don't put it past Cords at all to drop them and bring them back. He's done it so many times.

Offered is one thing, coming back is another. DAYS has done a lot of things through the years, they've put Deidre on the backburner too many times too count, said one thing when she says the truth is another, used her to promote the show, etc... but I think they may have crossed the line. However, she's always said that the people on the show is her family, the cast and the crew both, and she wants to stay there forever, but I hope she doesn't go back. It's just so insulting. But she'll do what she needs to do to be happy and I'll support her whatever that is.

Even if she has taken a paycut before, she should have taken another one. It's for the show and I am sure she could afford ir. Or, developed a deal like Geary has on GH where he has like six months off for the year. But, the idea that she most likely wasn't even offered one; disgusting

IMO, they shouldn't have to be in the position to have to take paycuts. Ken Corday should have known when his economy was spiriling out of control and done something about it. This is on Corday, period.

That sai, she's taken paycuts in the past and if she didn't this time, I'm sure she had a good reason, but everything I know says she would have if she was offered.

    • Was Blake the product of Roger raping Holly, or did that come after when they were a couple?
    • I really wish we could see that episode...absolutely, my memory could be faulty, it was a very long time ago. I'm not going to contradict what the actors said--there has to be a reason it made them so uncomfortable that they talked about it in the press and complained to TPTB. I think that was the first one where they made the point that they wanted to educate the audience about the subject.
    • I just did with GL and its made me very happy!

Oh yes, trying to get into any soap from scratch starting post-2010 would be hard. I prefer to go back to the good ol' days, before the decline.
    • Can we talk about how iconic the 1994 tornado was on AMC? I was scanning through old episodes last night and came across this episode. The tornado was epic and the storylines/aftermath were so good (Julia's scar/Noah!; Jenny/Ray/Nola/Jesse in heaven with Tad, etc).  For 1994, these special effects and budget for this big event were amazing. 10 out of 10!  The only thing missing is Erica!  I can't recall where Erica was at the time, but I really wish she had been involved in this storyline.

    • On the way to her own engagement party? I've read that the show had trouble getting the audience to sympathize with Rita, but...that seems bizarre. Maybe I can understand the issue with the censors, given that at the time, rape wasn't depicted the way it is now, and marital rape was even less acknowledged.  Wasn't Chris Brooks' rape one of the first honest stories on the subject? I just don't think I could get into a show I didn't have a working knowledge of. I know it's a different era, but I really tried to get into GH once Maura West joined, but it just never jelled.
    • Yes it was! My mom and I convinced my dad to get one. He was--how shall I put this?--on the thrifty side, but one day he came home with one as a surprise. To this day, I'm convinced it fell off a truck. (He knew people with "connections."

) BUT, we had our VCR and we could watch our soaps. That thing lasted forever! It was built like a tank. Even when we got new ones with more features, we kept that one.

Blasphemy!  (Haha, I get it.  But, you should try watching AMC! 80s-90s was so good.)
    • I thought about saying how I resented the fact that those two newbies were tripping up the Puppetmaster of all Puppetmasters, when the best others could do was a stalemate (or less...). But, well...*sigh*
    • I read years ago that both Zaslow and Lenore both complained that it came off as a seduction because of CBS censors, so Lenore asked if she could say, "you raped me" to leave no doubt with the audience, and that Zaslow insisted that Holly's rape played realistically
    • Wow it’s official, Gatwa is out… https://www.avclub.com/ncuti-gatwa-addresses-doctor-who-finale-statement DW fandom on Reddit is in a furor over how things went down and apparent last minute scrapping of the original ending. Also…Billie Piper again really?
