Any Capitol Fans Here?

That's Karen Kelly, the final Brenda. I have some later episodes of her when she's in the triangle with Wally and Dylan (the guy who maintains Myrna's fleet of automobiles).

I realize the irony of this comment, but I think Cat looks pretty without makeup.

What did you think of Karen Kelly?

I thought Deborah Mulowney was a little rough here too but she had some charisma.

After seeing more of her Capitol work I wish Hickland had played a heroine a little more often on soaps (of course Lindsey thought she was a heroine, even though she wasn't). She is very effective in these damsel in distress situations.

What was her character like on Texas? Yeah, she does well on Capitol. She's stronger and brighter than Julie #1.

There was something so honest and green about Leslie Graves and Karen seems a lot more "on" and actory in comparison. I guess she's okay but she can be a little grating which I don't think Brenda was ever supposed to be. She's supposed to be the poor litle !@#$%^&*] up who you sympathize with because her parents are tyrants and she doesn't have the best role models, kinda thing. I'd never seen Sam be so forceful with any of his children as he is in this clip. I have an old SOD article where a fan wrote in criticizing Capitol for defanging all of the Cleggs minus Myrna.

I remember that Hickland was pretty green on Texas but the show had awful writing in the early days. It didn't help that her character Courtney was supposed to be a surgeon (she looked more like a young nurse) and was involved with Lee Patterson's character, who was old enough to be her father.

I didnt even recognize that girl as KK who I liked on Rituals but hated as Brenda LOL.

The Brenda character suffered greatly imo after Graves left, she lost all her spark and uniqueness that made her rootable but also annoying in a good way, she just became an annoying ingenue.

Damn Dane Witherspoon is FIONE!!!

Amd yeah I have def seen this Sam before especially when it comes to the McCandlesses

I guess I never got why Sam had such an ax to grind with the McCandlesses. If I saw more of the first year I'd probably understand. I get why Myrna is all butthurt because Clarissa "stole" Baxter from her (which if I was Sam I'd be like, "Get over it woman, you're with me now"). I'm wondering if Judson and his politics foiled some moves Clegg Industries tried to make or something. It just seems that Sam's vitriol is way too strong to just be about his son vs. their son running for office.

Yes, but again, that was Myrna's doing, before she even married Sam. When Baxter chose Clarissa over her, Myrna got revenge on her former bff by accusing Clarissa's father, Judge Judson, of being a commie sympathizer. This got him blacklisted, ruining his political career.

I wanted to tell people that SFK has four or five Capitol videos on his Youtube channel (SoapFoxKirby). Please watch!

Here's a few promos also uploaded on another channel, and part of a January 1986 episode.

    • Thanks. I'm glad we have some fan memories of these years as this is such a typically snide take on the genre. It's also poorly written and reminds me a great deal of the tedious "snark" recaps that became popular in the '90s. The end in particular. The 1979/80 stuff I have seen is much more polished than a number of soaps at the time. It was very easy to watch and not too bogged down in past story.  Margo is played by Ann Williams, who was on what seemed like every soap. I think she said Margo was her favorite role.  These episodes aren't consecutive, but if you ever have time, they are worth a watch. They are bits and pieces from January and April of 1979 - April in and out of prison, her past calling to her via her psychic powers (and the suicide of Miles' wife Denise, who had murder framing in mind). April 1979 has the end of Winter Austen (such a fantastic soap name).  I don't want to drop a ton of links but you can find playlists on Youtube.
    • And the rating 'wars' continue...hehe.
    • Well, it was fun while it lasted for Rebecca Herbst. Le sigh.
    • I am wholeheartedly enjoying this show. I just haven't been able to post as much as I used to. But yes, this episode needs to be submitted for the EMMYs and there needs to be wins. I better NOT see Y&R, DAYS, or B&B winning in categories over BTG. I feel like the only show that is giving BTG an ounce of competition this season is GH.
    • I never thought the day would come, but too much MM for me.
    • I think it may be that the character was brought in for a specific purpose and then became popular with viewers, and the show didn't know how to respond.  The choice to pivot away from Simon/India may show that you are right and they didn't care for her...although pairing them up may be another sign they didn't care for her. I don't connect well with this period but it does make me happy seeing some of these characters before the great purge and some of the surprises - I'd forgotten the wonderful Maureen O'Sullivan popped up to be bumped off. So typical of soaps by this point, but it doesn't grate as much as later on when Y&R would bring on any random cast member from Small Wonder. I'm also amazed at this time at just how much money the show must have had. The costumes for the Founder's celebration in summer 1984, or whatever it was, looked gorgeous.
    • Which officially started to feel that way today with them hearing each other out as they confronted each other at the same time.    Same. He was even catching himself when he was about to go overboard or do those tics that people don't seem to like. He failed a bit at the end, but he carried. It makes me think about a month back when it was discussed that the actor was better in other things he's been in. And I questioned then if that meant that he was playing Martin more intentionally. I questioned that briefly again today because he was giving.
    • I really like the actress who plays Margo. Don't know  her name. I'm so hesitant to google anyone because I don't want to know the length they were on the show. I've watched two episodes and I have to say that the show does not feel as dated as other shows. I tried to watch Ryan's Hope a few weeks back and some of the acting was a bit rough. EON is a lot more natural which amuses me considering it's a mystery/thriller show.
