Hey Texas fans I am hoping you can help me out with a few questions I have.

  • Was Nita Wright (played by Ellen Maxted) Billy Joe Wright's (played by John McCafferty) wife or sister?  And how was the character written off the show?
  • How was the character of Maggie Dekker (played by Shirley Slater) written out?

If I'm not mistaken, Maggie Dekker was not written out, she just stopped appearing.  It's too bad, because the original writers (the Corringtons) had set up a mystery regarding the Dekkers and the Marshalls (probably regarding the parentage of Rikki Dekker) that was only alluded to -- and Maggie seemed to know the truth.   But when Maggie stopped appearing, whatever secret she held went with her, never to be mentioned.

I tried watching Texas. But 1980-81 is such a chore to watch. During the writers strike in the spring. It gets a little interesting. With the arrival of Chris. Who blackmailed Paige with her porno film. Chris's murder provided some excitement  Not much but some excitement. Texas had a good cast, Interesting characters and good sets. But it was so meh. It's like the writers had no idea. What to do with the characters. No wonder the legendary Beverlee McKinsey. After only a year and a half fled. Lisby Larson really shines. Pam Long was quite a good actors. With real presence and charm. Kin Shriner was completely squandered

When I rewatch episodes on YouTube I am shocked at how boring many of them are.  I like the cast though.  Two of my favourite soap stories are from Texas -  Hi-to-pah and Ashley getting washed away in a flash flood and being returned to her family at Christmas by angel.  I was only 10 years old when I watched those stories so...

Thanks.  I remember Billy Joe but I have no memory of Nita.

Ricky Dekker!

I don't know that, but I do know that Kin Shriner and Catherine Hickland's close, four-decades long friendship began on this show.

I believe Kin said himself that the contract he signed to play Jeb made him the highest-paid actor on daytime up to that point. Why P&G shelled out all that money for him and gave him next to nothing to do remains a mystery to this day.

My guess is Paul Rauch and P&G were more concerned about poaching a popular actor from GH, rather than actually developing a character for him to play. And they just forced the character on the Corrington's, who never really seemed interested in writing for him.

And I’d love to see that beautiful smile a lot more There’s just one problem… that should’ve been sent packing with Uncle Ron
    • Yet another reason some of the characters need servants.  Since some of the sets do not include front doors, servants could answer the off-screen door and escort guests into the living room(s).
    • I remember them showing a map of Michigan during one of Rachel's adventures, and you are probably correct here.  But the map may have been used in 1978, when Sven kidnapped Rachel and characters were searching for her. They had no idea Sven had hidden her right there on the Cory estate.  So that's just another possible sighting of the infamous map.
    • The one thing that drives me nuts about this show is that all these wealthy people never lock their doors and everyone just walks in without even knocking.  I live out in the boonies with no neighbors close by, but I always have my doors locked day or night!
    • All the best people are at the bottom of the list. Lauren, Michael, Chloe, Traci, Ashley, Mariah, Sharon, Amanda, Devon. I’d rather see more of these people than anyone in the top 10.. (with the exception of Jack and Diane) because I am still enjoying their scenes.
    • The live video tribute to Drake last night with current and former actors Thread with link to video: https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/68987-days-currentformer-actors-live-video-tribute-for-drake-hogestyn  They said that the episodes were filmed out of order over a span of time. As we already knew, re: the upcoming memorial service (not spoiling the airdate here)... the memorial service was taped *before* Drake passed away, and then the studio was on a preplanned hiatus, and the actors learned of his passing during the hiatus. New info from the video last night, is that some of what recently aired (such as June 3rd episode ) was taped *after* the hiatus, so after Drake passed away. Maybe I misunderstood what Martha Madison said, but it sounded that way. My god, I don't know how the actors filmed it, especially Diedre.
    • I did not expect Peter Reckell to be the one to break my heart today. Incredible scenes with Bo and his family.
    • Barbara, to me, is a mixture of Florence Ballard and Betty McGlown/Barbara Martin (both McGlown and Martin were part of the Primettes before they became a trio and were renamed the Supremes).
    • Maeve Kincaid said in interviews that she misses slapping Jordan Clarke's face..something along the lines "He knew how to take a slap!"   Or voodoo dolls..LOL!
    • Staci Greason was in Paris during this live tribute, which would have been in the middle of the night where she was. So Fairman arranged to pretape Greason earlier in the same day, and then spliced her part into the end of the video after the live feed, and it's all on the same youtube.
